BERLIN, June 14 (UPI) – A U.S. security expert believes Pakistan, not Iran, should be the principal U.S. concern as a nuclear threat.
“If there’s any country we should be paying attention to it’s Pakistan and not so much Iran,” Charles Pena, a senior fellow at the Independent Institute and former director of defense policy studies at the Cato Institute, said Thursday at a conference at the German Council on Foreign Relations, a Berlin-based think tank.
The current administration in Islamabad, led by President Pervez Musharraf, is an ally of the United States in its war on terrorism. However, hopes that Musharraf will destroy surviving al-Qaida cells and help defeat a Taliban insurgency in neighboring Afghanistan have not materialized.
Some say Musharraf, who is under severe pressure to resign as his domestic popularity is declining, does not want to pursue al-Qaida at all. A military leader, he came to power in a bloodless coup in 1999 and has clung to power ever since.
Washington nevertheless supports him because it knows the alternatives could be much worse: Elections are coming up, and radical Islamist forces have gained support in Pakistan, a country that possesses nuclear weapons.
Unlike the leadership in Tehran, a post-Musharraf government would very likely be a “radical Islamic regime with real ties to terrorist groups,” Pena added.

yes only USA and Allies are not evil, they don't kill innocents and they are preachers of peace and tolerance. Rest of the world is radical and terrorists and they are continous threat to the existance of US and Allies, so they need to be eliminated from the face of earth. I personally was not, but a good family friend was shot point blank by jamati thugs. He was Dow Medical College student, who had hidden under a car as some other did to get out of the way of jamaati and NSF ghundas firing at each other. He was pulled from under the car, the shooter put his foot on the guys neck and then shot him in the head. The poor guy, the pride and joy of his family, was in a comma for a week at AKU hospital and then passed away. This cold blooded murder was witnessed by my sister, cousin and several friends who were also hiding to avoid being caught in the crossfire.
and as I have stated several times before my uncle was killed by MQm goons as he was going to his office.
I have no respect for either group of thugs, MQM ghundas or Jamaatis goons. both are grade A kuttay.

though if one lookls at status of things today - religious thugs will not have direct power in Pakistan as in say Afganistan during Taliban stage or Iran during Khomeini days. However they are sly people and will provide backing and power to whoever they think will help institute their views as law. Whether it be the army or something else. Yeah, a majority of people are not religious zealots but they have no voice. Just like in Iran which probably has a more educated liberated and cosmopolitan past than Pakistan.Bush and Mush have due to their incompetencies ensured that the zealots seem right to a section of people

the reason for pakistan not being labelled as dangerous as iran is simply for the fact that pakistan is not involved in the middle east like iran is. the pakistani government are just just often passing comment regarding ME affairs and pakistani people make lots of shor, these two reasons make pakistan a target of some evil eyes. the theory im commenting on the basis of is well known, those controlling the labelling of countries in the pentagon are zionist patriots first and american later
