Pakistan’s cricketers are expected to tour India next year, subject to approval from the Indian government. Pakistan last played a Test series in India in 1999, and a visit in 2005 is likely after India played three Tests and five one-day internationals in Pakistan in March and April.
“There is a possibility of Pakistan’s visit coming about next year, but nothing is confirmed yet,” said SK Nair, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. “We have received the request but we have to work out a lot of details. The decision would also depend on the government’s approval.”
After Australia declined to play in a three-nation one-day tournament later this year - also featuring South Africa - it was also suggested that Pakistan and India might play a six-match ODI series on a home-and-away basis. But so far, no decision has been taken.
For the moment, the BCCI is busy putting the finishing touches on the graded payments system for the players, which should be in place before India embark on the 2004-05 season. “The discussion [with the players] is over and the final document is being prepared,” said Nair. “But there are other issues like selecting the players to be contracted, and grading them in three levels, that is still to be sorted out. We are at the fag end of the process and hope to have the system in place before the start of the new season.”
The BCCI have yet to confirm reports that South Africa’s tour of India later this year will consist only of seven ODIs, and no Test matches. South Africa remain the only side to have beaten India in a home Test series since 1987.
What odds that Shoaib will mysteriously become injured especially during the test match at mumbai and the doctor will prescribe that he dance the night away in discos and party with bollywood artists. And lo behold immediately after the 5th day of the test he will be fit and raring to go and save Pakistan.
Exactly ehsan. That’s why I hope if these two are in charge we don’t see this guy in the team. the coach and the captain don’t want him onboard so why would we see him in 2005 partying in Mumbai?

I think, If he has done wrong then in that case it doesnt matter whoever is the coach and Captain.Simply make and example out of it. If he did it delibrately then shut him off for 1 year and he will be changed guy. Nakhra and Politics is one thing, no team should tolerate.
shoaib's problem is if he doesn't get regular wickets he starts sulking. this can be put right with a good psychologist. i hope he plays in india, he has the best run up
Its got nothing to do with the coach or captain.

Ehsan Bhai,
I beg to differ on this issue, the Captain and Coach should certainly have a say in selection of players.
Its a team and its lead by the Coach off Field and by the Captain On Field, keep in mind the keyword is Team. and if the Coach or Captain have doubts about any player's Physical Fitness, Performance, Team Spirit, attitude or for that matter Reluctance in following Instructions, then yes they should be able to make that player sit it out.
I know Shoaib Akhter has a long and Disturbing history of being Injured one day and freaking out the next. and thats exactly my reasoning that he should be answerable to the Captain and the Coach.

I think what ehsan bhai is saying is what I said in my previosu post here.
*Ehsan bhai, your bias against Shoaib Akhtar is completely unjustified. I expected you to be reasonable as the moderator of this forum! :D . Really. You guys can forget about beating India in 2005 without Shoaib Akhtar anyway. It's time Pakistan started it's antics of not going to the neighbouring country for cricket matches due to Kashmir; India saved their ass through the 90's on this basis alone, why can't we? People, That Is All.*
Its got nothing to do with the coach or captain.

The hypocrisy is unbelievable. Once again we are getting into a pass the buck merry go round. Someone has to be responsible for whether Shoaib is in the team or not. Inzimam has been unequivocal in pinning Shoaib Akhtar as a bad influence, bad for team spirit, etc same goes for Miandad who has criticised his bowling. I am not in that dressing room, these guys are. If they are saying these things then what possible justification can there be for picking Shoaib against India next year?
