We are better off being divided. If India was not divided we would have to deal with the Afghan refugees and the Afghan crisis.
BJP is a political party with lot of people who shoot their mouths off. I think this is just another instance.

i dont know why this great imbecile has left out srilanka and nepal from akhand bharat. one question though - if you want to reunite with these countries, why are you so reluctant to issue people from these countries visas to india? or include them in IPL? sounds more like you want to divide with actions and unite when you jerk off.

You may not agree with him. Present India, Pakistan and Bangladesh were once one country and people lived in peace for centuries till India was divided by the Britishers. Quoting other countries are ridiculous. The experiment done in 1947 was failed in 1971. But I agree in all these years the hatred among people living in these countries is so enormous and permanent that it is now impossible to re-unite again.

Before election they were crying like our jawans are being beheaded and silent & coward govt is only watching and many such statements. thats absolutely wrong. During the past 2000 years India has been somehow been united under ashoka's rule (for not more than 50 years). Most of northern Pakistan has been aligned with Afghanistan. Huns, Greeks, Sakas, Mongols etc have ruled most of the parts forming Pakistan now. It's first the moguls who united India (most of it), as during different stages they didn't control central India, where as south India they couldn't conquer. And then we have British who gave India the shape that Indian nationalists crave (although even this had many semi independent kind of states), so both times India some how got united was under foreigners which the same people hate.

if you are going back 2000 years, none of the national boundaries of today would hold up. most of today's nation states are the result of relatively modern day events and needs, and that is okay - after all most of us want to live in the present.
on the flip side, identity is not one monolithic entity and several of its facets evolve with time. it is hard to deny pakistanis have a lot in common with north indians. but given both their tu-tu-mei-mei attitude, cant really get along for any practically useful purpose.

All these countries now "emerging" (last 100-150 years and ongoing) have already been infested with hatred for neighbors for one reason or the other (religion, race, culture etc.), on the roads of hatred there are no u-turns (mostly).

Something along the lines of the European Union for South Asia isn't an unreasonable thing to believe in... Thats probably what Jinnah had in mind to begin with anyway. I recall reading that Jinnah was so certain that ease of movement would be maintained across the border, that he expected to be able to spend time at his home in Mumbai even after partition.

I don't know if we would have been better off in United India or not. I believe that the concept of akhand Bharat is a farce, subcontinent has been united for a very short period. If we talk of culture, Punjab and Sindh have commonality with northern India.
