Pakistan in the World Cup - Mark your calendars

Re: Pakistan in the World Cup - Mark your calendars

WI should get ZERO % chance based on the fact that in the past 32 years no host nation has won the world cup. Some ppl will say Sri Lanka in 1996 but come'on, the QF, SF and Final were not played in SL.

I see Pakistani beating SA in semis and India will beat Australia only to lose to Pak in the final. lol

Re: Pakistan in the World Cup - Mark your calendars

Now that PC Afridi is back in the squad we have a great chance in WC.

Re: Pakistan in the World Cup - Mark your calendars

:D

I think South Africa is least likely to do anything in Worldcup compared to AUS, India, Pak and WI. Their one dimensional bowling and inability of their batsmen to play on slow dusty wickets will make sure they dont go beyond super league. NZL will have similar issues.

I think AUS, Pak, India , WI and SL have good chance. But knowing that SL always sucks outside the subcontinent, I will take them out of the list.

So here is your Semi Final list
AUS Vs WI
India vs Pak

Aftert that.. All bets are off.

By the way.. Even if Semi lineup was like you suggested, dont count on us for making your life easier by beating AUS. :D

Re: Pakistan in the World Cup - Mark your calendars

Guys, winning the world cup is the ultimate prize, but its not something most teams will lose sleep over. As another of my friends said recently, Australia has a 99% chance of winning the world cup, and the rest can split the remaining 1% between them.

So, put your keyboards where your mouth is and provide your predictions about Group and Super-8 games. Who will win and who will lose. And then later we shall compare the actual results to your predictions and poke fun at those whose predictions are as unreliable as their presence on the GS :D

Re: Pakistan in the World Cup - Mark your calendars

^Pakistan win World Cup, Mark down my predictions.

Re: Pakistan in the World Cup - Mark your calendars

Spoken like a true Afridi! :-)

What happens if Pakistan loses the final? Nothing. We'll be happy it made to Finals.
What happens if Pakistan loses the semi-final? Nothing. We'll be happy it made to semis.

Point is, not winning the world cup is not a huge catastrophe. Its how we play in the Super 8's, that is important as to how we look at our team.

Re: Pakistan in the World Cup - Mark your calendars

You sure we will make it to the super-8? Canada is looking good :D

Re: Pakistan in the World Cup - Mark your calendars

Damn you [Aamir Sohail]Britishers[/Aamir Sohail]! For us, it would start in the morning :teary1: ; damn school.

Re: Pakistan in the World Cup - Mark your calendars

.. and Canada is relevant to Pakistan because ... ?

Re: Pakistan in the World Cup - Mark your calendars

I am so busted. I will be preparing for a certfication exam scheduled for 24th march in UK and super eight round will suffer because of that :(

I agree with the semifinal line up of Aus Pak WI Ind. Considering how balanced these teams are (for the particular conditions). Aus dont seem to have the same threatening bowling line up but damn their batting order is the most threatening (I anticipate that come the world cup, more and more bets will be placed on 'who will dismiss hussey').

Re: Pakistan in the World Cup - Mark your calendars

Here are my predictions.

Tue: Mar 13 - vs West Indies
Pakistan starts defensively, losses couple wickets early, Yousuf and Younis picks up the game. Inzamam carries the lower order, Razzaq or Akmal makes quick runs. Pakistan wins a one-sided game. If Windes choose to bat first, we dismiss them at lower score, their openers go early, someone in middle order makes a fifty to give them a reasonable target.

Sat: Mar 17 - vs Ireland
All guns blazing, Pakistan will dominate the minnows.

Wed: Mar 21 - vs Zimbabwe
Pakistan will win comfortably.

Fri: Mar 30 - vs England
Flintoff and Hamirson will give us trouble. If Asif and Akhtar are present we will dismiss them very cheaply. One of our top order scores big runs and help us win the game, either batting first or chasing.

Tue: Apr 3 - vs South Africa
Close game, last 8 overs (either playing first or second) are important for both sides. Great fielding will decide the game.

Mon: Apr 9 - vs New Zealand
Pakistan will play a solid game. New Zealand will collapse handing Pakistan a nice victory. Either Razzaq or Malik will have a big game.

Fri: Apr 13 - vs Australia
If our players are fit and focused than we win a close game, otherwise Australia.

Sun: Apr 15: vs India
It all depends on India's approach to World Cup, we have lost previous meetings and mostly it has to do with us. If India has the same approach as WC' 03, where they always try to win game via batting than they have the edge on us and other better teams in the tournament. Reason being Dhoni, Raina and Phatan and their quick runs. India has great fielders. A really close game, Inzamam and Tendulkar will decide the game. A true classic.

Wed: Apr 18: vs Sri Lanka
Srilankan batsmen will be comfortable with our bowlers, reason being matches between Australia and India. If we loose one of those two, close game...but we surely be exhusted, mentaly and physically.

All bets are off for semis and finals.

Re: Pakistan in the World Cup - Mark your calendars

so ... anybody wants to update their "chance of Pakistan winning the WC" now? :p

Re: Pakistan in the World Cup - Mark your calendars

chances : nil, 0...%

Re: Pakistan in the World Cup - Mark your calendars

Nope..Doesnt make any difference. Pak's chances are still same and Pak will do better than South Africa in Worldcup.

Re: Pakistan in the World Cup - Mark your calendars

^Looks like the only people who have confidence in the Pak team currently are INDIANS.

Re: Pakistan in the World Cup - Mark your calendars

:hoonh: Pakistan will Inshallah reach the semi-finals :snooty:

Re: Pakistan in the World Cup - Mark your calendars

On current form, that looks unlikely.

Re: Pakistan in the World Cup - Mark your calendars

Pak bowlers are creating new records (of the wrong sort) these days... hopefully by the time WC rolls in, our bowlers will get their act straight.
