Any information on whether we will be competing in ANY winter sport?
We have semi-alpine height in NA and part of Pakhtunkhwa, so no reasom to step back from the winter games.

Back in the day I have seen few reports ppl doing down hill skiing.
But they were far from being able to compete.

our only ski resort is under taliban control...so no...we wont be competing

lol. yeah saima and meera waghera should be send or figure skating. i hope they wont gonna runaway like our soccer team once did during some south asian games.
ps. country is in chaos, and corruption is at its peak...we dont even have resources to compete in summer olympics in chaddi-banyan, rather investing money in winter ones. country is better off in investing money in buying igloos, and costly gears to survive extreme conditions of tribal areas and areas like siachen.

Just watching the opening ceremony… Pakistan’s participating for the first time in the winter olympics - and that with 1 athlete… Muhammad Abbas - Alpine Skier… best of luck to him :k:

There is going to be a special Olympic for corrupted Nations. It will be called "Corrupted Olympics", Pakistan can take part in it.

i doubt that he’ll even make it to the top ten with the competition being so tough, but it’s good to see our country being represented for the first time in the winter Olympics.

I can bet that Muhammad Abbas rose to the top because of his own abilities. No coaches, no govt funded training, no stipends …

^ he's apparently been training with the Ski Federation of Pakistan which seems to comprise of members, coaches, and administrators from the Armed forces. The two delegates accompanying him are his coach who's a retd. Captain, and an Air Marshall who's the president of the Ski Federation. Apparently, Abbas had an Austrian coach for part of last year.

^ nonetheless yaar - good to see some representation, and all the better if resources were available. Hopefully, he can get good enough results for our Govt. to keep sending more athletes in the future as well.
dear all,
my father is abbas' coach n i can assure u all tht there was alot of funding, training n coaching behind this achievement. it took him many years to train, not only in pakistan but internationally as well. pakistan ski federation funded his tours to china, iran, sweden, austria, italy, turkey, germany n q8 a few more. he qualified for the winter olympics last year.
we made a personal effort n created a page on facebook so tht we can provide awareness to people tht some people in pakistan still put alot of effort in wht they believe in. on tht page u can find all the information abt abbas, the history of his achievement. there r links n vdos, his interviews n fotos taken on daily basis in vancouver, canada. he trains everyday and is working really really hard
and TLK, abbas rose due to his abilities, but he had the support of an entire team behind him. n to tell u, he is not the only skier of pakistan. there r 8 boys who went to austria last year so to qualify n all of them r really really gud skiers. the facebook page m going to give u also has a link to a vdo ...it is the austrian tv news channel giving a report on our team n how hopeful every1 is tht pakistanis will do gud.
