Reuters is one of my favorite news site. Decently organized, and usually low on bull.
If you are a Pakistani, any time you see a news headline that says “The world’s Top 10 dangerous destinations”, your heart is bound to sink a little. Question is not whether we’d make the list. Its merely where do we stand. To be one step worse than Sudan rankles.
Not to berate the point, of course, or to merely share bad publicity, its more about being knowledgable so when others mention news bits like this, you can be prepared to put it all in the proper context.
So you ask, "whats the 'proper context', smarty pants?".
Right.
Saying "its bad, but its not *that *bad" is now getting stale. "It will all get better; just wait for the darn elections to be over" seems like one of those spooky crystal ball-gazer prediction that seems like a lie before it even leaves your pretty mouth.
"I talk to my family all the time, and life is normal and exciting. Businesses are doing fine, investment opportunities abound, ski slopes are full of great powder; and man, do Pakistanis know how to throw a party!!". Slighly more believable, but not better than the simple and honest "lets pray together".
*“The country, which borders Afghanistan, suffers from ongoing geopolitical turmoil. Bomb attacks and rioting between Shia and Sunni Muslim communities are a threat. In December 2007, opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was assassinated during a suicide bombing after months of strife over delayed elections.” http://www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/idUSN2426062420080125?pageNumber=2&virtualBrandChannel=0
*The strife was not over delayed elections. Reuters needs to get its facts right.
^ Yeah, talk about the company we have in this list. For now, we are less dangerous than Somalia, Iraq and Afghanistan. That sure is some accomplishment.
Kiddin' aside, whats the bloody criteria (no pun intended) to put a list like this together? Probably more based on news media reports, perception and advisories by US State Department.

Probably "suicide bombing" count sends shivers down some spines hence pushes Pakistan's name up towards the top.
OK, that's a list of nations that you visit that put your life at risk and mostly it's all within the geographic boundaries...What would be a good list of countries to write about that you don't visit and still fear trouble from?

And Pakistan? Pakistanis are addicted of blaming; they don’t concentrate about their characters.
EVERY COUNTRY has its merits and demerits!! and they try to overcome the shortgivings.....!! and its purely their internal matter!!
This bloody foreign media has made a fashion of stepping at PAKISTAN'S tail and instill into its people to start such discussions (threads etc) and hence they succeed.
Its nothing but a planned JEWISH lobby against a Muslim...very strong Muslim Nation which has nukes!
