Pakistan has no friends in region

Many Pakistanis have said that India is always hated by all its neighbors. Is Pakistan liked by all its neighbors?

Pakistan has no friends in region, says Ahmed Rashid. Is that the case?

“We don’t have regional allies. Arabs have had enough with Taliban and Afghanistan. China is close to us, but it’s aware of the religious extremist tendencies here which pose a serious threat to China due to its rebellious Muslim population. India can’t be a friend after what we’ve done in Kashmir. We’ve created an enormous sense of distrust among the Central Asian countries, thanks to our military policies.”

Rashid believed it was time for Pakistan to give up its monopolistic policy towards Afghanistan.

“We are losing our position. Our leverage over Afghanistan is becoming lesser and lesser with time. Iran is attracting 60 percent of Afghan trade

Re: Pakistan has no friends in region

No thats not true at all.
You may say that Pak has less friends than it had in the era of ZA Bhutto, but that doesnt mean it has 0 friends. Pak has gone thru several crisis in last decade and it couldnt survive unless it had FRIENDS. Yes, our foriegn policy has been the most wierd but we havent lost everything yet.

Unfortunately , there is no shortage of ppl showing more pessimist approach rather they should do otherwise.

Re: Pakistan has no friends in region

Very true. Oddly enough our friends disappear as soon as the American's show up in the neighborhood. We are to be held responsible for regime change now are we?

Re: Pakistan has no friends in region

I believe Pakistan has a lot more friends than India.

A country may not have political allies but Pakistan has the moral support of Millions of non Pakistani Muslims. In terms of allies India might have more or less but in terms of friends I am pretty sure Pakistan has its friends out there... those friends might not shout about it but the best of friends come when you need them most.

Re: Pakistan has no friends in region

Ahmed Rashid is authority on CAR's & Afghanistan, when he speak people listen.

The blunders by Pakistan's security establishment put us in free fall gutter as a nation, i hope some leadership emerge because current clowns have no moral & mental capacity to fill the wide gap.

Re: Pakistan has no friends in region

It has not given you any benifit till date other than monetary or restructural assistance.Where were these people at a time you had to fight for Kashmir ,at a time you had to lose Banglaland ,at a time you were being ravaged by external and interrnal pressures?

I believe India has got more support from the rest of the Muslim world than Pakistan. You may be counting the head of Muslims but at the end of the it is state politics and statesmanship rather than simple head counts that play the role.

Did you happen to garner any support when you had to fight in the valleys of Kashmir in 1948?Where were the rest of Muslim countries at that time?Tell me how many Muslim countries joined you in fight for Kashmir,as they did against Isreal?

Did you have any support in 1965 war?

Did you have any support when you had to fight for each inch of East pakistan? How many Muslim countries joined you when you had to protect your other `half'...

Did you have any support when you had to call off Mujahideens from the heights of kargil?

Did you have any support when you were denied of cricket ?

Did you have any support when you had to fight TTP and other extremist elements?

After all could you pls tell us how many Muslim countries supported your Kashmir referendum other than Saudi and Niger?

Re: Pakistan has no friends in region

But let me tell you ,China will be the best and natural ally of Pakistan forever.

Re: Pakistan has no friends in region

The post previous to that I believe is quite rash and incorrect.

I don’t have a lot time but I will explain why properly at a later time.

In the 1965 war, Iran allowed Pakistan Air Force planes to land and re fuel for free..

Turkey has also ALWAYS backed Pakistan over India. A simple link of Wiki explains that..
.Pakistan–Turkey relations - Wikipedia

Also, it was Pakistan who blocked India accesion into the OIC. Do you think Pakistan could have done that without the support of other Muslim countries.

Facts still remain Muslim countries will almost always back other Muslim nations over non Muslim countries.

Re: Pakistan has no friends in region

I like ahmed rashid. i met him last month and he seems like a nice guy in personal life too.

Re: Pakistan has no friends in region

^ ^ India's OIC membership endeavour was nothing but it wanted to show the world that India being the world's second largest Muslim populated country, wants to be a part of an organization that addresses the concerns of all Muslims, like OIC .But the greatest point to note here is that Neither OIC nor any Islamic country could help or safeguard Pakistan's interests in the events I listed above. Those were the turning points in the history of Pakistan.

Re: Pakistan has no friends in region

Why do you have to lie? India is not the second largest Muslim populated country. Your own Registrar General & Census Commissioner states that very fact.

Re: Pakistan has no friends in region

Arleiter's signature:

SWASTIKA STANDS FOR AUSPICIOUSNESS PEACE AND PROSPERITY.

Friendly advice, never and I mean NEVER even in your dreams mention this if you are in Israel or Germany. Unless you want to be tried as a sympathizer to genocide that was done many years back on the same principals.

Re: Pakistan has no friends in region

Arleitter bhai it is why I used my words carefully and said moral support rather than material.

And as the numbers prove no matter what Muslims will always support Muslims. You are right about states though our leaders are disgraces, when they are replaced with better leaders we will see then what our numbers can do...

It has always been thus with my people even before we were Muslim. All we need is a leader who is good to his people and keeps his words to them, when the leader unites the people like an arrow, the people are the bow together they are unstoppable.

Re: Pakistan has no friends in region

Pakistan's biggest "friend" in the region is China, since China has used Pak as a counter to India.

Re: Pakistan has no friends in region

Pak has moved ahead of India on that list & Bangladesh is fast catching up :)

Re: Pakistan has no friends in region

Fact: There are two countries in the world which don’t have true friends…China and Pakistan…that makes these two countries to be eternal friends…the ultimate reality…

Re: Pakistan has no friends in region

Unfortunately, Pakistans foreign and dometic intrests have resulted in more enemies then friends, exception being China.

But its isnt all Pakistan fault, except in the case of Bangladesh.

Afghanistan for example, was Pakistans self appointed enemy right at the time of the nations birth, because of the whole Pashtun nationalism thing. Iran has traditionally been Pakistans friend, up until the Iranian revolution, and the Afghan situation pitting both sides against each other.

Beyond that, I dont know. I suppose if push comes to shuv, Sri Lanka and Nepal would side with India, not because of any inherant dislike for Pak, but because of a cultural affinity with India.

Re: Pakistan has no friends in region

Sri Lanka would only side with India since Pakistan can't provide protection to them in case of hostilities with india, because believe me there is no love lost between the two countries as sri lanka knows how and why LTTE remained the powder keg that it did for so many years.

I sincerely hope iran gets a democratic govt, be it even a little nationalists, as long as it isn't some crazy dictator or the current regime. Sure it would mean Pakistan might diminish in importance as the "west" finds another route in central asia but I would rather have a peaceful region than the current theocracy. Afghanistan is really dependent on Pakistan, whether they like it or not, and would only grow on the coattails of Pakistan and Iran (herat for example). The country is heavily dependent upon the two countries' economies especially Pakistan if you look at their economy now.

PS Good relationship with bangladesh might be a thorn in the side of India, but in the larger scheme of things, bangladesh is really inconsequential to the growth of Pakistan.

Re: Pakistan has no friends in region

Just for fun, what is Indias current Muslim population?

Re: Pakistan has no friends in region

India is also home to the third-largest Muslim population in the world after Indonesia and Pakistan.
