Pakistan Cricket ..... where to from here on ????

So folks i must release some pain and anger somehow (and germany lost too today, even though deservingly)

After a long time i today decided to follow the whole match (although tests r my favourites)

It was sheer pain except for a few moments of Bowling from Sohail Tanvir and Batting from Younis+Misbah

A Coach who has yet to make his mark except the run-ins with the Media.

A captain who not only lacks some sense in guiding a side but who himself looks absolutely lost.

Please forget the Kitply Cup win against India as todays match again showed us brutally where we stand in world Cricket … namely just above BD and ZIM

I see no Future Vision from the coach and Staff … looks like they themselve don’t know exactly what kinda goal they r working towards

Inzi in comparison to Malik looks all of a sudden an inspiring leader

I absolutely Agree with the views of Majid Khan who lashed out at the PCB+Coach+Player a few days ago

Here some points he raised:

A Board which has no clue how to organize+run the Game in the country properly so that always enough talent is discovered and nurtured. A Board that is as tame as the Lawyers campaign whe it comes to dicipline certain figures.

Making a player captain of Pakista who admitted Match Fixing and to be honest has no clue about captaincy

Players who have played more than 250 ODIs but still can’t do the basics of Fielding and drop catches like no other

All in all at one glance the situation seems HOPELESS and Pakistan has become a laughing of the Cricket World

Some1 raised the question whether Cricketnama is on its way to a slow demise … well for me a fighting Unit (Pakistan Team once upon a Time) was always a reason to come back to GS and participate

But as i mention i the lower part of my post, the HOPELESSNESS that the mess PCB brought upon itself is not going clear anytime soon maybe one reason for less participation in Cricketnama … just maybe

We are going through the phase that has come to all team where no hope can be seen in near future. For example

  • Indian - Early 90s
  • England - Late 90s
  • Sri Lanka - Late 80s , early 90s

etc etc

This normally happens where we don't prepare backup/young players to take place of aging players near to their retirement just like Australia do and that’s the reason why they have not went through this phase for quite a while now.

If we look at the lineup (and backup stock) I only see Yousuf as the one who you can be rated as exceptional player (I m not talking about his fielding) everyone else is sort of "chala tu chala, nahi chala tu agaley match main sahee" type of player. We are lacking both "Class" and "Consistency" in our team and on top of all that we have a captain who will have to fight hard for his place if he is not a captain.

Now let’s come to management side. We have prospered when we have given authority to captain look at Imran, Wasim, Inzi etc ...they all were dictators OK but somehow they made team work together. When you have selection committee, captain, coach everyone "partly" responsible...you can not excel. Unless you make someone fully responsible, its hard to put together a team that can work efficiently be it game or be it a business.

Having said that all, I’ll keep following Pakistani Cricket…that’s in my Khameer I guess  :(

wont say nething else

Re: Pakistan Cricket ..... where to from here on ????

The challenge with demise of sporting nations is not just that after you hit the low point you bounce back, sometimes you dont, the resilience is not there, sometimes what you saw as the low point was the last spot before a deep fall, and sometimes even though you bounceback, others have improved and you play catch up for a long time.

I feel that Pakistan will bounce back, but it will not be a quick one, it will take time and until then the team will hover between lower end of tier one to mid end of tier 2 teams.

and I will be very happy if my assessment of teh situation and future is wrong.

Re: Pakistan Cricket ..... where to from here on ????

I think the reason for Pakistan's current state of affairs is pretty clear.

In a setup where "seniority", "personal ego", "indiscipline" , "fickle emotions" etc rule, the one thing that can inspire the team and make them gel together is a "charismatic leader".

After the retirement of Imran, Miandad, the 2 W's (even Inzi - the spiritual guru !)......there is nobody who is charismatic enough to bring coherence to the team and motivate them towards a common goal.

As I said elsewhere : man-2-man, Pakistan is still a formidable team (e.g. a middle order that boasts of Younis, Yousuf and Misbah ), its only the work ethic/culture that needs to be straightened out.

Re: Pakistan Cricket ..... where to from here on ????

Hazrat Ali (r.a) said," IT is better to have a herd of sheep led by a lion than a herd of lions led by a sheep "

The quality rare in usual leaders but found in Imran is that he not only lead by example, he also spark the leadership qualities in people he leads. Almost every player he lead in 1992 world cup later showed good leadership qualities as a Captain. Jawed Miandad, Ramez Raja, Saeed Anwar, Amir Sohail, Waseem Akram, Waqar Yunous, Moin Khan, Inziman-ul-Haq, Salim Malik....etc.

^ These players might have not been as good leaders (with the exception of Miandad and few others) had they not been groomed under Imran Khan.

It shows how strong and everlasting influence can a man has as a captain. One of the solutions to the problem is if Imran Khan accepts to become a coach of Pakistan team, which he would not, due to politics. And the problem is that it is not easy to find his replacement due to the fact that sportsmen like him are assets of a nation and are not born everyday.

p.s. Sorry for my english

Re: Pakistan Cricket ..... where to from here on ????

On further thought :

I think there is no need to replace player A with player B and player X with Player Y, as most fans quickly resort to recommending when their team loses.

Resolve these TWO THINGS and Pak Cricket will be all set :

(1) Get a charismatic authoritative Captain who is respected by all members of the team.
(2) Get a solid batting wicket-keeper (like Sangakarra, McCullum, Dhoni etc). The days of an average batting specialist wicket-keeper are long gone. Sarfaraz does not cut it, from what I saw of his batting yesterday.

Rest, everything is fine ---- at least it is not much worse than other teams.

Re: Pakistan Cricket ..... where to from here on ????

Thats the main problem "charismatic authoritative Captain" is not currently present in the team. Younis was a great choice but we saw how that turned out. I really liked Malik but even though he improved his personal stats he doesnt look in command on the field.
If every body wants to go with Misbah, you just have to take all seniors and give him a young team. Seniors cant get rid of the word ego whenever someone new is made a captain.
