sleazy chick for sleazy flick. whats so hard to understand?
its not like reema or meera (not sure which one) was cast into a role made for tabu or nandita das or hired for a serious movie. a while ago, people like zeba bakhtiar and salma agha used to be in bolly movies. you are the one making a mountain out of a molehill with your silly victim complex.
oh ! its so funny u talkin too much abt quality cinema and ur watching those hip shakin movies.
PcB go and research on the the classic cinema by shyam benegal, adoor gopalakrishnan, shaji n karun, sathyajit ray .
there are movies with those actresses shakin their asses, 'coz people watch it world over.
I mean we know Bollywood is the best cinema in the world. The whole world does. Be it the goras of the west or the folks from the far east – no one can resist some Bolly whore’s salacious thumkaa. They all drool over them. Indeed that’s why they’ve been awarded oscars year after year [the thumkaas won over the oscar jury, ya see] – more than even the Chinese/Iranian ones which happen to make millions upon millions in US year after year [as with the Chinese Mandarin ones] and they sweep the world film festivals – Cannes, Lucerne, Toranto, they’re all their and winning HUGE awards every year! WOW! The gawdy red minis have indeed pushed aside the conservative pathos of Persian cinema. Only Bollywood lives. The rest is dead. Move over world – the indos are coming.
that was a meek surrender.
i agree with u compleatly, just edit that cow dung part.
indeed.
to add to it,2 of india’s international film fests(IFFI, IFFK) is listed in the top 7 international film festivals in the world.
INDIAN parellal cinema movement, along with iranian cinema is considered
as one of the best quality fim makers.
and bollybust being a pakistani - them folks known all over the world for their immaculate taste in movies - watches only award winning critically acclaimed movies from persia.
the likes of adoor and ray are the closest the subcontinent has produced to kurosawa and bergman, the two heros of every pakistani movie goer.. or was that salman and hrithik.
PCG with her usual dreamed up and clueless rhetoric. PCG Auntie, first of all, why do you want an “educated” person to represent Pakistan while 70 % of its people can’t even write their own name. Secondly, what makes you say that Movie actors are less educated? That is compared to whom? And who the hell cares who represents Pakistan anyway? Do you think that people give a damn about Pakistani representors while the country is being run by a dictator? I mean hello.
You guys are living in a full denial, thinking that Pakistan is this fuking Utopia with everyone with a PhD and swimming pool in every house with ponies in the backyard. If you get a chance, venture outside of cities and the real Pakistan where people like MukhtaraN Mai live (or die, depending on the day). In Pakistan, two women are killed everyday in the name of Honor. Now you tell me who should represent Pakistan?
I think MukhtaraN Mai should represent Pakistan and be the spokesperson. But, PCG might not think that MukhtaraN Mai is very bright or educated.
NOTE: Your post was removed by mistake and I am pasting it back here.
In recent Zee award she was looking more exposed than Pretty Zinta beside the fact that pretty was wearing the sleaveless top and Reema was in full sleaves shirt !
Madhaanee: If Aishwariya Rai can “represent” India [and we all know how “goodlooking” most Indos are ] then I don’t see why PhDs cannot represent Pakistan!
Madhanee, not at all. I totally look up to Mukhtaran Mai. She's one of my heroes.
A movie actress is not going over to represent all of of Pakistan. A movie actress is going outside to represent the entertainment industry. Where we have girls who are awesome actresses, why send someone who doesn't know the A, B, C of acting?
These same girls are not able to do their job right in their own country, and chal parti hai doosray mulk mein to do a "give a good performance". Why not do that in their own country?
If Pakistan has great actresses on the level of Sadia Imam, that Kiran girl (she was in that drama Kiran - man, I forgot her name now - grrr), Noor Jehan, Sania Saeed, etc ... then why are people like Meera and Reema traipsing over there?
They can't possibly represent our film industry, when they're not even appreciated in the country.
So the literacy rate has nothing to do with it. Otherwise, you could apply the same reasoning to everything else. Then Mukhtaran Mai would be one of the ONLY ladies to represent women in Pakistan. There should be no place for ladies like Asma Jehangir then?
Madhanee, think of the logic behind what you say. You're getting old.
Hi Allah PCG, you are so easy to get all upset. I guess that comes with age. Learn to take the critique with an open mind, if you wish to develop a character. First of all, you have no clue about Pakistani Movie actors. At one time, Lahore Movie Studios (Shahnoor, etc.) produced more Movies than China, Russia, and Egypt combined. The SOB Zia killed that industry. You can’t just wake up today and start belittling the Pakistani Movie actors without having a clue about what caused their current state. And secondly, why do you think that an educated person will be best to represent Pakistan abroad? In NYC, over 80% of cabbies are Pakistani, do you want a Harvard economist to represent Pakistan? Come on. That type of elitist and hollow mentality is what is keeping us backward. I can kick Imran Khan’s ass at any place, any time, and it is not because I am better educated than he is, but because I have a character that has been ingrained in me by my upbringing. Those movie actors (Reema Sheema and whomever) you are poking fun at, are more “Pakistani” than you are. And yes, Literacy rate has a lot to do with it.
I used to think Reema was from Nepal but then she proved her Pakistani-ness last time she was at a Choda August mela here in Amreeka. She was supposed to do a dance and it was well publicized by the promoters to attract thurkees like myself. So, we pay $5 entry fee and listen to the stupid 'local talent' for two hours before Shehzadi Reema Saahiba blesses us with her supreme presence on stage. She holds the mic and talks endlessly how unique she is. And then walks off the stage smiling in full glory.
This really pissed a group of guys who had made it from the samosa chaat stalls to near the stage in no time when Reema walked in. Luckily, Abrar was there and he took over the situation with some loud bhangrra music.
We later found out that Reema refused to dance because it was a 'Mela crowd'. At first I thought she is calling the audience 'mela' or dirty. But she actually didn't want to dance in front of people who had only paid $5 for admission. (This is what I was told by an organizer,,,,so I don't know how much truth there is to it). But the point Reema proved was that she is a stuck up, self absorbed, unethical and unprofessional actress. Thus she proved to be a Pakistani. I rarely see good Pakistanis. Why?
Fungo. You get what you pay for. For 5 bucks, you can see but no touching.
The event you are talking about was specifically for Pakistanis (or Indians wanabe Pakistanis). Who do you think should represent Pakistan abroad? I think that’s a pretty dumb question to ask. Every Pakistani who goes abroad is a representative of Pakistan, and it can’t be limited to just famous or educated people. Fungo, when someone asks you where’re you from, just say India.
Reema, Mera, and other heera mundi stalwarts are the best Pakistan has to offer....Atleast they are homegrown and are not afflicted with a inferiority complex nor insecure due to their lack of sophistication or inability to superficially emulate the western decedance, a la other more hip and modern bhaands....
Yaar all you Indos – why do you care so much about Pakistani entertainment that you have to butt your sorry ass into threads about who should represent us?
Arfaz you have been thoroughly bashed boasting about your trashy country’s so called “limitless talent and creativity”, I really doubt you have any self respect else you would shut up. Har doosra gaana is a rip off, and they tell me about TALENT! HA!
Madhanee it’s the Miss Rai question all over again: If she can represent a nation where the average guy/gal is so ugly – and it just gets better down south, I don’t see why a Nobel laureate or anyone else cannot represent Pakistan.
Oooh what a discussion! I am amazed. As you probably know I am a film maker from pakistan who has worked with the Indians as well. I think most of the arguments that a lot of people give are surface level emotions. A lot of folks across the border and especially in our own country do forget that we have a history that goes back mroe than 57 years of our independance. That we have lived for thousands of years together. It is right we had our differences in history and hence the partition but it is important to remember that we have virtually very similar demographic life styles. Our girls wear a dopatta and the indians put on an Orni.. we eat chappatis with curry and have the same customs all over. If basant is celebrated with fervour in pakistan then it is the Indian girls who are forced to burn themselves when they become widows. But that will not get us anywhere. It is important to realise that India and Pakistan are two of the greatest countries on the planet and that they have their own strengths and weeknesses. What you see in a typical Mumbai film is absolutely horryifying to a family in UP or Lukhnow as well. The amount of poverty driven forced sex or prostitution is rampant in Calcutta and so is the victimisation of innocent girls in Pakistan especially in rural areas. If Pakistan has a Mukhtaran Mai then how can any Indian forget Phoolan Devi? If Indian cinema has improved tremendously in their ability to produce good movies then at the same time more than 3000 pakistani songs and their lyrics have been copied by them. Virtually every major Hollywood film has been redone in Mumbai. But wait...not in South India I personally feel that the South Indian cinema is second to none and great. Also their production qualities are second to none in the world. Pakistan boosts of the second best presentation on television in Asia after Japan. Our coverage of sports like cricket is second to Australia and the world acknowledges it. The problem is honestly our faith and beliefs. Whislt for an Indian girl it is religious to know dancing or singing for us it is a religous taboo. Hence we are stuck with damsels from Heera Mandi who cant even carry themselves. But times are changing very fast and we are managing to attract very exciting talent. In all spheres of entertainment industry, from fashion to photography to musicians and so on so forth. I believe we will not get anywhere taking a jibe at each other. I personally am a great fan of Mr Yash Chopra or Ramesh Sippy or Karan jauhar. Two of them are great friends of mine as well. However when we sit we never argue about what is right or wrong we discuss ideas, scripts, story lines etc. We can live with our differences it is the commonalities that we must explore. After all what has any senseless arguments given to us all these years. For some Musharrraf may be a dictator but then so is Bush. After all if you recall before the first gulf war The American troops had moved into the gulf much before the United Nations gave its mandate. There are so many other examples. The American people never gave a mandate to fire nuclear bombs at Japan but its government did so. Its a matter of opinion and especially at what side of the table you are sitting at. At present Bollywood does make excellent movies and we have to give them that credit. But they will have to give credit where its due as well. Once we are fair then all will be well. For the point of an argument or any argument should be only one....PROGRESS...
