Pakistan ranks 135 among the 177 coutries covered by the annual UN Human Development Report.India is ahead of pakistan and ranks 127th on the list.Sadly only war torn african countries and some other poor countries are behind pakistan.
Annual UNDP Human Development Report ranks countries by measuring life expectancy, literacy rates, school enrolment and average income.

after so much foreign investment, so much “outsourcing”, so much “modernisation” India could manage to leave Pakistan only 8 spots behind then I consider it a failure on India’s part

Actually after 34 years I don’t think it should matter to us anymore. It was sad that we lost them, but I believe it was our own fault and we should pray for their good as Muslims.

the recall period makes to the estimate of the number of poor.

halve the number of poor in India. That must be the most successful

Maddy, in 2004 we were behind them.
We ranked 142 and they were 138. these rankings change drastically every year for these developing countries.

I don’t think such data and comparisons make any sense other than serve rhetorics. There’s error in what metrics they pick, what data they collect, who collects them, who are they collecting from, how they interpret what number means what …They all hope that as long as they introduce numerous such errors, that most of them will cancel out each other…
p problem is there is no theory exists to prove such compensating pattern of errors. So we will never know how wrong these ratings are.
But they need something to support the qualitative / subjective conclusions they have already come to, so self-fulfilling prophecies end up being called statistics.
Everybody knows the cliche Statistics and Bloody Lies but nobody wonders what that means.
Forget it guys - there is no comparison possible between US and India, India and Pakistan or Pakistan and Vatican.

Do we have any credibility to the report made by UN Human department?
how do we know that a non-biased man is sitting in this department siting behind the desk calculating the numbers?
What criteria did they really adopt and what mathematical methods did they really use to collect the information?

e.g.
Clean drinking water
Hunger/Starvation deaths
roof over the head
Or do they say something like roti, kapara aur makan..

^^^Bharat needs benevolent dictatorship and not some cheesy (laughing cow) demo-crazy. Stupid politicians have turned this beautiful country into $hithole of a country. Strong leadership in Delhi will bring back the glory days of Kushana and Chandra Gupt Moria. Where no tsunamic victims will languish on the streets, and there will be plenty of hospitals to take care of UP's sick children.
