Re: Pakistan behind India in Human development

While Bangladesh ranks below both India and Pakistan, it has seen the swiftest progress in recent times. There's a lesson there for both India and Pakistan. Both are better off spending less on arms.

But then, Bangladesh is a funny state. They are also sliding downhill rapidly as a 'state'. Yet another lesson there - religion is only one component of a man's life.

Re: Pakistan behind India in Human development

comparing India with Pakistan or Bangladesh makes no sense. India is too big in terms of size and population. As you all should know, turning or propelling a big ship takes a lot more time and energy thank little tugboats. In view of that when you look at the progrees India has made since independence is very very remarkable. A lot more needs to be done but this should not be forgotten.

Pakistan in spite of being much smaller and supposedly a more homogenic population (at least in terms of religion) has been much slower in development, and a lot weaker in economic, political and communal stability. But for the Musharaf - Bush years, things would have been worse to the point of catastrophic tragedy

Bangladesh is perhaps the most worrisome but with some creative diplomacy, should raise some serious capital for a development agenda. India could and should interact a lot more with BD and Sri Lanka than now
