Pakistan joined Afghanistan and Bangladesh in countries who had banned the site after the video sharing site refused to comply to requests regarding the blasphemous video.

ISLAMABAD: **Video-sharing website YouTube was blocked across Pakistan on Monday flowing orders by Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf. Taking cognisance of the blasphemous film uploaded on YouTube, the PM issued strict instructions to the Ministry of Information Technology to block access to YouTube throughout the country with immediate effect.
**
The directions were given after YouTube refused to heed to the advice of the Pakistan government to remove the blasphemous film from the website. The PM said blasphemous material would not be tolerated and the services of YouTube would remain suspended until removal of the blasphemous material.
I think it’s a wise step. Keeping in mind the volatile nature of the country at this very point. But this isn’t a long term solution. Government needs to do something more fitting for times likes these (Although I do hope and pray this is the last time).
Your thoughts? Banning YouTube a good idea? Or do you completely disagree?
I agree with this action. Though it's not a long term action it still convey our feelings. But it would be even better if our government plan out to put a complete stop on this kind of insulting behavior.
Banning Youtube won't do anything. People will use Proxies to get around it.
But that's not the real issue. The real issue is, that Muslims around the world, especially in our very own Pakistan have done EXACTLY what the maker of the film wanted them to do. The American government on the other hand has asked Youtube to take down the video, has condemned the film and brought in the creator of the movie for questioning. Yet all over the Muslim world you see Americans being attacked, American flags and Obama's pictures burning. Burn pictures of the guy who made the film if you want. But what do Americans in general have to do with it?
You don't want the West to label all Muslims as terrorists based on the actions of a few. Yet you label all Americans as people insulting your religion based on the action of ONE guy.

Exactly, sometimes instead of being emotional some Muslims need to get sensible.
Pakistanis lack the self control as to not to go to YouTube and type in the search box "Muhammed Film" and then click on it.
So the Government of Pakistan has to act like their mother and block YouTube.
Its like your mother hiding the cookie jar because she knows you have no self control and will eat all the cookies.
We can't ignore the majority, who won't opt to search such rubbish. We can't ignore the fact that point of protest is also why sites like youtube allow such stuff (inspite of this much reaction). They are happy with their so called policy of Freedom of speech against the hurting of Billions of Muslims.
I have a channel on youtube. I uploaded a old Pakistani drama containing music from a hollywood movie from 70s. They forthwith blocked that video in many countries. I got requests to re-upload video, when I tried uploading video with a different name, they detected it within seconds and again blocked the video. When a music clip from a 70s movie got so much attention for whatever reasons, why youtube is allowing such stuff inspite of requests from some countries' governments.

I completely agree with you. They call us extremists, we prove them right with our actions.

You're confusing copyright law with offensive ideas.
I dont see any issue in this ban. There is a hadess about protesting against Zulm and rasing your voice is second kind. Even symbolical, this ban just represents what we feel about this movie. I think Pak govt did the right thing.
As long as someone stands to profit from your 70's clip, then yes, they will pay more attention to that than your feelings. Welcome to the real world.
What exactly are you protesting? Be specific.
Don't you know what created this reaction in all Muslims countries?
Its the protest against freedom of speech that freely attack Muslim religious sentiments on regular basis. Sometimes its a book, sometimes its a movie, sometimes its a sketch. Don't we know that portrayal of the Prophet in image or any other from is forbidden in Islam. Should we be happy, we someone make mockery of such beliefs?

No we shouldn't. But I think mass protests are a bit of an overreaction no?
Again, I ask you, what specifically are you protesting?
