Pakistan and India in terror vow

**Pakistan and India have pledged to work together to fight terrorism - “the main threat to both countries”.**The joint statement came after talks in Egypt between Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh.

They said action on terrorism should not be linked to their peace talks.

Ties between the two countries were badly strained by attacks in Mumbai (Bombay) last year, in which militants killed more than 160 people.

India has accused Pakistan-based fighters from the banned militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba of carrying out the attacks.

Pakistan has admitted they were partly planned on its soil - and vowed to do all it can to bring the suspects to justice.

Indian concession

The talks on Thursday - on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement’s summit in Egypt - were the third high-level meeting between the two nuclear-armed neighbours since the Mumbai attacks last November which brought an abrupt halt to peace talks.

“Both leaders affirmed their resolve to fight terrorism and co-operate with each other to this end,” the joint statement of the talks said.

“Prime Minister Singh reiterated the need to bring the perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks to justice and Prime Minister Gilani assured that Pakistan will do everything in its power in this regard.”

The two prime ministers agreed to co-operate on the investigation.

“Pakistan has provided an updated status dossier on the investigations of the Mumbai attacks and,” their statement said.

The two leaders also agreed to “share real time, credible and actionable information on any future terrorist threat”.

Last week Pakistan said the trial of five men suspected of involvement in the attack on Mumbai’s Taj Hotel was likely to start this week.

In a move likely to please Islamabad, the prime minister’s joint statement said action on terrorism “should not be linked to the composite dialogue process” - which includes talks on the disputed territory of Kashmir.

The BBC’s Sanjoy Majumder in Delhi says the Indian prime minister has made a concession in abandoning the link.

Re: Pakistan and India in terror vow

Good. Cooperation will go a long way, much longer than hostility and confrontation.

PM Singh is a good man, and very competent. I hope the two nations can put aside the cat-mouse game of proxies and move ahead like good neighbors. It's wishful thinking at this point, but it's hightime the region became calm and rose up as the new Century belongs to Asia in terms of economics and prosperity.

Re: Pakistan and India in terror vow

A very interesting development - the joing declaration issued by the two countries after the leaders met had no mention of Kashmir, but mentioned Balochistan

India and Pakistan agreed on Thursday to work together to fight terrorism and ordered senior diplomats to meet as often as needed to improve relations between the two countries, a joint statement by their Prime Ministers said.

Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and his Indian counterpart Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met on the sidelines of a Non-Aligned Movement summit in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh.

Following is a text of the joint statement issued after those talks:

The two Prime Ministers had a cordial and constructive meeting. They considered the entire gamut of bilateral relations with a view to charting the way forward in India-Pakistan relations.

Both leaders agreed that terrorism is the main threat to both countries. Both leaders affirmed their resolve to fight terrorism and to cooperate with each other to this end.

Prime Minister Singh reiterated the need to bring the perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks to justice. Prime Minister Gilani assured that Pakistan will do everything in its power in this regard. He said that Pakistan has provided an updated status dossier on the investigations of the Mumbai attacks and had sought additional information/evidence. Prime Minister Singh said that the dossier is being reviewed.

Both leaders agreed that the two countries will share real time credible and actionable information on any future terrorist threats.

Prime Minister Gilani mentioned that Pakistan has some information on threats in Balochistan and other areas.

Both prime ministers recognised that dialogue is the only way forward. Action on terrorism should not be linked to the Composite Dialogue process and these should not be bracketed.

Prime Minister Singh said that India was ready to discuss all issues with Pakistan, including all outstanding issues.

Prime Minister Singh reiterated India’s interest in a stable, democratic Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Both leaders agreed that the real challenge is development and the elimination of poverty. Both leaders are resolved to eliminate those factors which prevent our countries from realising their full potential. Both agreed to work to create an atmosphere of mutual trust and confidence.

Both leaders reaffirmed their intention to promote regional cooperation.

Both foreign secretaries should meet as often as necessary and report to the two foreign ministers, who will be meeting on the sidelines of the forthcoming UN General Assembly.

Re: Pakistan and India in terror vow

Yes, because Kashmir is an open secret. Everyone knows it's illegally occupied, so there's no need to convince anyone of that.

Balochistan however must be discussed because India is suspected of, let me rephrase that RAW or some of its rogue elements are suspected of carrying out mischief in Balochistan via the proxy BLA, whose ringleader Brahamdagh Bugti enjoys Indian hospitality in Kabul under the umbrella of US/Nato while terrorizing and spreading the venom of hate in Balochistan at the hands of misguided few. India's sincerity can be doubted on that fact alone that it boasts of having good relations with BLA whose HQ are found no less interestingly in Tel Aviv (i.e. Mossad turf). It's just a matter of connecting the dots.

Very interesting indeed. I hope PM Singh was given a reality check and asked to bring RAW under control so the way can be paved for peace talks again.

Re: Pakistan and India in terror vow

^ No need to jumpt to conclusions :p

Pakistan has always insisted on including Kashmir in any discussions/statements etc which is the reason why talks have never really moved ahead. Could this exclusion signal a new willingness from Pak's side to "actually move ahead" with a dialogue process ?

As for Balochistan, never before has Pak accepted that there is a problem. This is a start ;)

Re: Pakistan and India in terror vow

I am not jumping to any conclusion, rather bringing you back to reality that Kashmir is an open secret as being an illegally occupied, disputed territory.

Like you say, this is a start. I say this is JUST THE start, lets see what else resurfaces about the meeting that took place. Surely they must have discussed various issues, possibly including China's threat to India and the vital role Pakistan has in the region being the strongest ally of China in the region. :)

Re: Pakistan and India in terror vow

So putting Balochistan in, India has accepted that it has to do something with the terrorism going on in that part.

Remember Kashmir is disputed territory, where as Balochistan is part of Pakistan, where Indian govt is supporting the terrorism...

For a change, think vice-versa. Now you can understand the story. Pakistan could never show a proof of India's involvement in Balochistan, where as Pakistan's terrorism not only India and in other countries is as clear as crystal.

Your pal says "don't jump to conclusions"...so lets stick to the obvious, shall we?

Neither India, nor BLA are shy of expressing their newfound love for each other, and BLA is a known terrorist outfit that openly calls for massacre of Pakistani citizens while hiding in the hospitality of Indian consulates in Afghanistan, with the knowledge and to some extent blessings of US/Nato.

clear as crystal indeed.

For a change, try to read and understand the news, Pakistan has spoken with India on its involvement in supporting terrorist outfits, unlike India, Pakistan does not propogate stuff without proof...

When will you bad Pakis learn that bharat the land of peace and harmony is never invoved in terrorism. Stop spreading lies bout the paradise.

thankooo so much much.

Re: Pakistan and India in terror vow

^^

Ya very true.. Kasab is an Indian. The government bungled in letting the people know that he is a Pakistani. How can such people come from the so called land of the pure....

Re: Pakistan and India in terror vow

BLA should be declared a terrorist organization.

terriorism is a big problem and the roots r in pakistan - its a universal truth -today the government has to take action because of american pressure but nothing is guranteed in future-pakistan need to tackle this problem and than talk with India-as far as baluchistan is concerned there is a involvement of Iran as well.

sure sure, the paradise don't have the biggest and most terrorist organizations, its a lie spread by bad pakis.. damn ISI!! stop spreading lies bout the great paradise, the land of peace and harmony.

And when you find out why the word BALOCHISTAN was mentioned, you will be quite embarassed (not saying you will admit it though).

Pakistani foriegn minister was asked a question if the issue of Indian involvement in BALOCHISTAN was raised as India keeps talking about Mumbai attacks and he said " why do you think PM mentioned the BALOCHISTAN word in his press conference"??? Indian PM has listened to our concerns and will discuss this further.

You are right Punjabee, it's a good start indeed.

Yeah..proof..like uncircumcised Indian terrorist..:)

Thats exactly what the Pak PM was hoping for - fool the gullible local population

Mission accomplished :k:

Re: Pakistan and India in terror vow

That was abject surrender of Manomahn Singh.. i guess this is congresis trait..

Patel warns against it and indian army was abotu to recapturign whole kashmir but against all this Nehru goes to UN and promises plebiscite

Army wins war Shastriji goes and surrenders in tashkent on negotiaation table
At least he has enough shame left to be shocked to death over his work

Indira Ganhdi in 1971 again army wins the war Indira Gandhi surrenders everything in Shimla without gainign anythign in return..

Now this

Only time no international community mediated meeting happedn after war was in Kargil.. Despite the fact that vajpayee was care taker PM he just banged phone on Clinton when he started sweet talking the sweetenign the deal for pakistan..

but then we have elcted this pussilanimous character.. then again he hardly has taken this decion it is his political master in 10 Janpath who had told them to surrender and he has obediently done that

Re: Pakistan and India in terror vow

So India vows to stop commiting terror, and Pakistan agrees. Great diplomatic victory! :)
