We Pakistanis are an emotional nation and so are Indians and Bangalis……We tend to develop our rivalries based on our past history. And we all know we don’t share a very friendly history with Bangladeshis (BDs). All of my experiences with BDs in USA are terrible. After 5 minutes of conversation, they will bring 1971 political events in discussion and start cursing. And trust me all of them do it, whether it is a BD professor from university of Illinois, Urbana Champaign, a taxi driver in Detroit or a graduate student with me in graduate school. Not that i am trying to say that nothing happened in 1971 but the vicious and ferocious hatred that i see on these post-1971 BDs simply boils my blood. They never ever speak one single word of Urdu whereas majority of Indians don’t mind conversing in Urdu. I also remember, that majority of the BD newspapers demanded a resignation (or a public apology) from their Bangladeshi Manager who happened to speak in Urdu on Pakistan TV during an interview back in 2003…..
Having said all of above, after BD beat Australia 2 days ago, an interesting question came into my mind. Assuming that BD ODI team would gain a reputable international stature in coming years, how would you rate the rivalry between Pakistan and Bangladesh? Do you think that we will hate them as much as we hate India winning against us? Right now, BD team is a very ordinary team, therefore, we don’t care much about them, but once they will be a strong team like Sri Lanka, what will be our emotions against them.
If you ask me, I hate them as much as I hate Indians (may be little less than Indians). I think that if BD team becomes a strong team in coming years, there will be a very inetresting rivalry between Paksitan and BD too.
y3ah its true these bangals are idiots they have been bought up hating pakistan and i for one have been close to coming to blows wid many one of them in my encounter wid dem in my opinion they are a bunch of no good idiots
Alot of people won’t agree and i totally understand. But I also don’t like benaglis. Some day benglalis would have a reputable side and if they also act like jackasses the way indian players act when they beat us occasionally, i am sure i will hate them even more. Remember what their captain said after the WC 99 win. I don’t remember the exact words but it was something like that by beating them we took revenge from pakistan for what happened in 1971
Why do u guys hate BD so much .. only for 71 or what.. Oh that was so long ago.. why do u keep all this in mind. They are just getting their way around. Try to help them around than putting them down..
another thing is that not many people in pakistan realise just how much these bangalis hate pakistan its only when u meet these idiots abroad u know wat they are really like
darling we dont hate him. its there attitude, the way they come across thats wat we hate i personally have nothing against Bangladesh its just its people which annoy me due to their ignorance
true. Its their problem that they don’t let their brains go to their heads. Similar attitude which indians show when ever they are in a winning position. I hate their arrogance then. We have beaten them so many times but still we don’t act like total jackass the way they do.
U may be generalising too far.. i think that u might have met some bongs and indians when they are rejoicing their win. But tell me do pakistani fans dont do that. The same complaint can be put onto a pakistani as well as to anybody else. We dont like Australia because they were too proud and too arrogent. That itself shows u that things depend on which country u r from. .rather based exclusively on cricket.
You may be ignoring the bragger/arrogant on our side of fence, but admit it, we do have some arrogants too. If you search the threads of this very forum before India visited Pakistan you’ll see how “humble” we were then. You may have seen bad Bengladeshis, but all the BDs I have seen were as nice as anyone else, so we shouldn’t paint “most” BD with one same brush.
I am not saying that BDs are not nice people.....they are as nice as any other nation on this planet but the real question is their attitude towards humble pakistanis......when wasim akram was asked after being defeated by BD, he humbly stated that we lost the match to no one else but to our own borthers but whole BD considered it as a revenge from pakistan for what happened in 1971........go search BD newspapers of those days....
so that is the difference in the mentality i am talking about. we pakistanis never ever consider any bangali our enemy or rival but our feelings are never reciprocated in the same way. Anyway, i am really looking forward to see a serious rivalry between BD and paksitan....India-Pak rivalry is becoming a little boring now as indians seem to be too soft for us :D.......
Vineshvk dude, i am not at all generalising by claiming about the whole indian nation. I was talking about the indian cricket team. Believe me there is no harm in showing arrogance during a competition, but what i don't like is the arrogance which is shown by indian players when they are about to win. It looks like as if they are too afraid to show that arrogance early in the match and when they know that the opposition players are now not able to reply them by hitting some sixes, they become arrogant. I don't remember if our players show such attitude when they are about to win a match.
Bengalis also showed the same attitude when the beat in WC99. Anyone can show such attitude when they are winning or have won. If you really want to show arrongance or attitude ,show it when the real competition is on.
As far as crowd behaviour is concenred, i don't think we need to discuss that. Even we as pakistani' were pissed off by the attitude of our crowd last year since we thought that we lost home crowd advantage in 2004 series because of too much support for indian team. I am from karachi and i know karahci crowd can be really hostile if they want to but even in karahci there was an unfamiliar sight when indians fabs were running all over in the stadium with flags in thier hands and karahci crowd was acknowledging them and that happened every where. We also saw the indian crowd behavoiur this year and in the end it became so comical that even the commentators openly admitted that what is with the crowd in every indian city since there is always pin drop silence with an indian wicket falling down or paki players hitting boundries and then on top of that every time in a series crowd disturbance is also a special feature which we see regularly in india.
But the whole point of my statement was that i was targetting the cricketers specifically and not tha nation. I have make alot of indiand friends in the past2 years who i think are really very nice people.
I got nothing against Bengalis, but yeah some of them do hate Pakistan. They also hate India, I think its in the nature of desis to all hate each other LOL
I think there might be a rivalry some day, but BD has a long, long way to go before they are a decent team.
One win is just one win
According to info I received the BD history tells them what happened in 1971 while our history is washed of those sins of our army, so we can’t really guess it easily why BDs are pissed.
I agree, many of BD I’ve met here in TX speak Urdu as much as they know it.
BD's Pakistanis! big difference...so if they don't like Urdu, talk to them in Hindi or English. You'll get a discount for the room if you ask in Gujrathi and 50cents off and free relish on the dog if you ask in Bengali.

BD should keep on playing and winning (if they can) for another 10 Years of hard and good cricket until they feel that they are bit closer to Pakistan cricket standard.
