I have been to a lot of designers back home and let me reassure you i haven't even seen this kinda stuff on display because it does not appeal to the general public. These kind of outfits are made specifically for photo shoots and runways to sell an idea, a concept because it is aesthetically appealing and aesthetics cannot be conformed by ethics, that is a personal choice.
By the way- I have never been to a Pakistani party in America where women have worn the above designs. Most women wear half or full sleeve shalwar kameez or kurta/pajama.. I myself being born and raised in America would never wear such above styles..I can't believe some ppl in Pak do..
my mom's side is hindu so i can wear normal sari blouses sleeveless stomach showing stuff around them but infront of my paki family and paki family friends i'd never be allowed to even show my ankles in the ever so popular capri pants trend, nor can i wear a sari with my stomach showing and the same goes for sleeveless. recently i just got my dad to let me wear a sari blouse that covers the stomach but had totally sheer sleeves. i was pretty lucky to get away with it i don't think he realized cuz one shoulder was covered the other had my hair so you know?
but ya i like to tell my dad that back home things are a lot more modern, the girls have the freedom to dress and show ankles and things aren't going nutzo because of it. he doesn't care to hear me whine and i guess i'm lucky i have a lot of hindu events i can wear those kinda clothes to.
From what I've heard, the regular joe blow on the streets of Pakistan does not wear this type of clothing. Everyone is still in regular long/short sleeve shalwar kameez, modest saris etc (you know what I mean).
RV: LOLLL I totally got your modran/modrun lingo. Everything you listed is correct in terms of the type of people who wear such clothes.
Gr8: uff ho!!! relax homey! I don't think RV's usage of 'fobby' was meant to offend. It's a term that those raised in the west use often so get used to it.
GR8Heera: Actually if you say modran..its incorrect. I mean I'm not speaking of the spelling but the pronunciation. MOD-RAN..Thats not how you say it..its said: MOD-ERN..anyways, I don't think I am better because I speak better English. Not at all. A persons character makes them a good person and everyone has the potential to be one. As for calling our parents fobby, we do not. At least I do not. My Mom came to America as a preteen and has perfect English and yet she also speaks perfect Urdu and has made sure her kids do too. I have never heard of any Paki Americans calling their parents fobs but maybe to others who have moved to America at a later stage in their life such as late teen and older. I though think its rude unless you are just trying to say that still have a heavy accent and do the opposite of what is done in America although they do not have to become westernized to fit in as I myself am not.
Sweet_Lil_hunnie: Okay so your half Hindu/Muslim. Thats fine. But why dress one way in front of others to please them and another way for others? I am sure that the Paki side knows you wear revealing clothes st other parties although it should not be their problem and concern.
NJMAsti: It is your opinion that sleeveless is okay. In my opinion it is not and if I ever showed up to my families parties wearing sleeveless I would get a lecture from the elders. I'm not saying I would wear long sleeves to please my family but I do it because I myself believe in it though I do sometimes wear short sleeves but not too short.
hmm
a rle small class of people would wear these.most peple if they like the clothes will get them altered from the designers.
and yes you will see some people wear this ..such as hoez ..and actresses and models mostly..i for one ..will never wear anything like this
Phooljari, some people say "Modarn (usually people who don't ahve a good grasp of the English language but still want to speak it any way)" and I guess GR8 Heera meant it in a sarcastic/ funny way.
my paki relatives probably laugh at my dad too but they know he allows us to dress in capris and stuff but within limits and just not infront of muslims. he just raised us to be more sensitive to his culture and keeping up appearances which is annoying but oh well. and the hindu (we're guyanese) side lives in ny and my pakistani ppl are in texas or pakistan so the two rarely mix.
As a matter of fact a lot do wear similar stuff, i saw girls wearing similar lehngas and saris on my khalas wedding events..they were from the groom side though..
LOL you living in America don't wear that and you believe some ppl in Pak do lol.
I didn' see anyone in Pakistan when last year I visited.
Well u kind of are doing the same thing here... assuming Pakistanis in America wear those clothes but not ppl in America? I was born and raised in America and i can PROUDLY say i have not seen a girl wear those type of clothes to a party. Me and my friends would never dare too, our mothers would kill us. But HOWEVER when i went to parties such as in the Defence area of Pakistan i SAW so many girls wear revealing clothes. And i also knew girls there how would change into those clothes when they went outside of their homes.
You know what people wear in Rap videos or even on reality shows or the runway in Paris is not what regular people wear in America! Pakistanis come in all forms and I have been to high fashion events or balls in NYC where Pakistanis wear these types of clothes but let's be realistic, half the people won't even look good in these outfits! So I think these outfits have a limited market. However that's the difference between couture and ready to wear, most people modify these styles for their own needs and requirements so the 'styles' live on modified
