Re: Pakis actually wear this?

i was born and raised in ny, lived in khi for a few yrs now back in ny. i wear sleeveless shirts/kameez, capris, saris with short blouses both in ny and khi. never got any weird looks from anyone. never had someone say something to me about it. ive worn stuff like that in front of my dad and FIL and no one thinks any of it is disrespectful. a lot of it also has to do with how u carry urself. but out of those 3 dresses i can really only see myself wearing something similar to the dress in the second pic. the other two just look obnoxious.

Re: Pakis actually wear this?

sumorani, i was just wondering if you were not married but u wore short sari blouses etc then do u think ppl in nyc/khi would talk?
my sister wears sleavless/capris etc and ppl sometimes make comments here and there

im my opinion, if you are not covering your hair hair/wearing shortsleaves you are already doing the wrong thing so you might aswell be fashionable and wear sleavless etc.

i actually think that girls in lahore/khi/isb who belong to upper-middle class societies get more freedom to wear modern easternwear, and if they were to wear the same clothes in 'the west' ppl make comments (at least that's the way here in Australia anyway, the pakis here are very very fashion backwards (like the 70s/80s!)

Re: Pakis actually wear this?

^ I don't really know. In my family women don't wear saris before getting married so the first time I wore it was after getting married. However I feel that the right way of wearing a sari would be one of the Indian ways which typically with a short blouse. I've seen young women wear them and have notheard any comments. But it definitely does depend on the type of people at the events ur at as well.

Re: Pakis actually wear this?

A word of advice - and sorry for not contributing to the thread:

"Paki" is as cool as making fun of 'modran' and paindoo. Watch the words you use. I'm a Pakistani Paindoo and damn proud of my roots. Perhaps you are stuck somewhere in the middle. You may or may not be one, but counterfeit goray make me sick - and they are not as modran as they think they are.

Re: Pakis actually wear this?

When designers come up with designs like this, firstly you have to remember its just them potraying an idea, they dont expect most people to wear the outfit the way it is. Eg the 2nd and 3rd would make beautiful bridal lenghas, add on sleeves and a longer kameez and ta'da you have an acceptable outfit. Secondly they arent designing these clothes just for pakistani people, i can think of several indians who would wear the dresses exactly the way they are and would look fantastic. Pakistan is quite forward and modern nowadays when it comes to fashion but im pretty sure theyre yet to go this far.

Re: Pakis actually wear this?

I am so over this. I can't argue with ppl like Jaanwar anymore. I have a life to get back to but you all discuss this as much as you feel like. P.S-yes u can be fashion forward without showing too much skin..I'm too tired to exoplain all this so enjoy your convos!

Re: Pakis actually wear this?

I don't think wearing such an outfit makes you a hoe. plus it really depends on the ppl you hang around, in some families it's okay todress that way and in other families even short sleeves is scandalous. to each their own.

Re: Pakis actually wear this?

and to those who say its against religion-- please, there are a million and one other things that ppl do thats against our religion. Again, to each their own.

No chit you cant argue with people like me. Yea, you gotta get back to pretending to be something you are not.

And I better get back to wearing my modran dhoti, milking the cows and later taking a crap in the fields.

Re: Pakis actually wear this?

C'mon people...

Do you really believe that, for example, the 'dresses' designed and advertised by French designers is what French women wear? Hardly a handful of them and hardly for more than a few occasions.
