Well, has anyone tried Pinky’s Bride?
Ambreen Javaid is the one that owns it, and Pinky’s her nickname… I loved her work. and can’t wait till she does my wedding!
Heres her website : www.pinkysbride.com
and her facebook: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=682387644and she has moved to mississauga, i think like last year
I am getting engaged in a few months, we'll be doing something small at home with family and some friends, and I want to get my makeup done. I've contacted a few places but they seem to charge such a high price, even though I want simple party-style makeup!
It's like saying the word "engagement" immediately ups the prices!! I was thinking of perhaps going to these places and tell them I need to get ready for a party and get my hair and makeup done and then just sneak the dupatta on myself after?
I don't know what to do! I want to look nice on my engagement but I can't afford an arm and a leg for it!
My sister got engaged last week.. we had a small ceremony at home to just the guys family and ours but my sis still wanted to look nice.. she got her makeup hair done from Hafsa from Honey's Lounge in Brmapton..she setup the duppatta as well (trust me it's worth it)..I can pm you what she charged..every single person who saw her and saw her pictures loved her makeup..

Hey Rani, I wouldn't recommend trying to set your own dupatta on your wedding day, as nerves and the need to keep the rest of your outfit together and all the other stuff will make you too shaky and forgetful to get it perfect. My suggestion would be to try MAC makeup if you are looking for bridal makeup at a decent price. Their policy is no mark-ups on bridal makeup, so they charge the standard price. Then maybe spend a little extra to go to a hair stylist who will do your hair and set your dupatta for you.
^ only thing with MAC -- you don't know who will be doing your makeup, everyone has their own style. You don't want to go to someone who has way too much of a bold eclectic style :S lol.. I went through the same problem last year.
Wania offers a special deal during the winter months where you can get party hair and makeup for $100 or something. She's really good too, check her out on Facebook. Another good artist is Seher Makeup Studio -- my friend got her engagement makeup done from her, and she looked gorgeous!! The makeup was soft and pretty!

Sparkles, if you go in knowing who you want to do your face, and specifically request her, they can't say no. My friends and I had a specific makeup artist we liked at the Square One location, and we always requested her, the only time they had to give us someone else was on a day she wasn't available. You can also take in a specific MAC face chart for them to work with, so you know what you're getting, and they know what you want.
MAC makeup artists have an advantage over independent bridal makeup artists in that, they don't work in their own specific style. So, a pinky's bride will look totally different from a shirley wu bride, or an amplified soul bride, so you are bound by the style they work with. MAC artists are trained to be versatile in the types of looks they can create. You can take a picture in with you, show her what you like, and also what you DON'T like and then ask her how she would create it for you. As soon as she starts explaining it to you, you'll know right away if she's the girl for you.
Most of the MAC girls I've worked with, I've seen their work on other girls first, so I knew what to expect. I think it's important to realize that on a budget, you have to give up something. Rani was talking about giving up a properly set dupatta. That's a must, she can't give it up. With a MAC makeup artist, at least she won't give up the gaurantee of a quality makeup look with good product.
booking party makeup instead of engagement is not a bad idea at all.. is your dupatta light? its actually not that hard to pin a dupatta.. find a pic of a style you like and get a close friend or relative to practice a few times on you with an old spare one
beauty concepts (shirley wu's salon) if i remember correctly charges $150 for party hair and makeup. and someone mentioned seher studio.. i havent seen a real bride of hers before but i really like her portfolio.. she seems to do the soft and subtle look very nicely!
Thanks so much for all the advice girls!! Thanks tea1234, sparklesnflorals, AsiyaAainaBridal, and marigold!
If it helps, my dupatta has NO kaam on it...just a fabric border (the reason is because the outfit has more kaam on it so thats why the dupatta is more plain). Would that make it easier to pin on my own (get a friend that is experienced in pinning dupattas in different styles)? Because I am leaning toward getting party hair+makeup done and then just doing the dupatta myself.
I feel like going to MAC and then getting my hair done separately will add that extra step and I don't have very much time to be running around from place to place. Plus I don't know any MAC artists so it would be hard for me to go in and just get some random person to do it. At least with Wania, Seher, Hafsa and others, I can see pictures of their work and style.

I still haven't decided what to do yet...
RaniPakistani my sister's dupatta was just fabric border too and she was planning to do it herself too but it is totally worth getting the dupatta done from a professional especially if you are getting hair and makeup done from the same person then the dupatta setting should be included in the price...as I mentioned before Hafsa charged $100 and everything was included..my sister took her own false lashes and she put them on for no charge...
One more reason why getting dupatta set is important is the way she put the pins in it didn't ruin the fabric of the dupatta and yet it still secured it in place.
hope it helps and hope you find a makup/hair artist who does a wonderful job and hope you an amazing engagement day :)
Hey thanks for the advice everyone! I ended up booking Hafsa for my engagement, and she did an AMAZINGGGGGGGGGG job! I was a little worried because a lot of the women in her portfolio have really heavy makeup with lots of chunky eye makeup. I asked her to do a really natural foundation look and a well-blended soft smokey eye, and the final result totallyyyyyy blew me away! She was great! :)
RaniPakistani, have you tried Fero? I've seen a few brides by her and really like her style! I'm getting Shirley for my wedding and Valima.. But Fero was my second choice.
Anyone have recommendations for a reasonably priced artist for bridal parties? By reasonable, I mean under $100 for party hair and makeup? Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated! :)
Have you contacted NoorArtistery? She did all my friends/cousins for my wedding and I believe she charged less than $100. They looked great! The only thing is that she doesnt do hair herself, but she does bring someone with her to do hair while she does makeup.
Oooh I did contact her recently - I need to get back to her actually. Haven't had the chance. I think she's over $100 from what I remember (will have to double check)
Were your friends/cousins happy with the hair?
All of them were very happy with their hair, and 3 of them were happy with their makeup, and one of them wasnt. But the one that wasnt is VERY VERY picky. She nit-picks about everything. PM your email address, and I will send you some pictures for sure!
This thread is great! I have my wedding coming up soon and need to pick a MUA asap for my valima. I already have Shirley booked for the baraat day. If anyone's ever been to Jannel, Xceptions by Noreen or Wania I would love some input from you. Thanks!
i really like pakeeza’s makeup. she’s very pleasant. i actually have a friend who looked awesome on her wedding day then I decided to book her for a party makeup. what i liked most is that she doesn’t rush and made sure i was completely satisfied. i have had more compliments on my makeup than ever before. she’s pretty versatile. you can even walk in with a style you like and she could the same work on you.
she’s in mississauga . her Facebook id is Pakeeza Make up artist and website is Looking for a make-up artist in Toronto?
Bumping up this thread to ask another question about Shirly Wu... I heard she doesn't travel. Is this true? I mean I would hope if I'm throwing down $500 she'd atleast come to me.
