Re: Best Makeup Artist in Canada - Ontario GTA, Toronto, Markham, Missauga, etc
I went to Dimple Shah for a makeup trial, my review is the following:
-- nice eye liner makeup
-- adequate eye shadow
-- very bad blush job: one cheek had less than the other and they were so far back
-- poor lipstick choice did not match my suit and thick lip liner
-- poor foundation coverage
-- I have a very young looking face and it looked as if I had crow's feet with the cake under my eyes (I have pretty smooth skin no wrinkles!!!)
-- it did not properly cover up my dark circles
-- the foundation colour actually made me look darker
overall: I think I looked better before I put the makeup on and I think I could have done a better makeup job by myself (as the makeup I tend to apply looks much better)
She's really nice though, but I did not like the makeup at all and when I showed people everyone said it was horrible job :(
Re: Best Makeup Artist in Canada - Ontario GTA, Toronto, Markham, Missauga, etc
I also went to Kathleen for makeup trial, here's the review:
eye liner was too too thick for my liking (nothing special) and I feel I could have applied it better
beautiful eye shadow
lipstick was a nice colour but applied crookedly and very poorly, it had absolutely no outline!
adequate blush job, a little to far back for my liking
my skin colour remained the same but the foundation provided good coverage it made my face smooth
I felt my skin look brighter by the makeup overall
overall: I am still going to shop around as I found the makeup overall to be adequate (I'm praying for better though b/c no one wants to look average on their wedding day, they want to look amazing!!!)

Hi :) I've seen brides from Shirley Wu and all of them looked gorgeous. She's the best I've seen so far. Also, I know of this one lady, her name is Fehmi, and she's done bridal makeup for girls in my family. She's also VERY GOOD and experienced. She used to work in a really famous salon in Karachi and she's been doing makeup/hair for over 10 years. Let me know if you'd like to get in touch with her.

Angell Beauty Review
I liked her makeup overall and I think it made me look slightly better. But, still holding out for looking amazing, so still going to look around.
Pros:
- nice colours used (eye shadow + lips)
- takes into consideration what you want
- made me look slightly better than I usually do
Cons:
- eye shadow not blended well enough
- foundation did not provide smooth coverage, did not cover dark circles, did not make me look fairer
- could not see lipliner/outline well
- slightly below average blush job
Rating:
6.5/10 (with a 5 being average)
2 1/2 starts out of 4

which products did she use?... especially foundation?
Re: Best Makeup Artist in Canada - Ontario GTA, Toronto, Markham, Missauga, etc
I think in Canada the trend of making the bride's face pastry white is not in trend at all, majority of the brides goes for more natural glowy and fresh look, instead of white wash, did you tell the makeup artist what your likes and dislikes ? As you might be one of 10 bride who wants the whiter foundation with strong lip outline color.
I personally think........
your skin would look more smooth with foundation if you had couples of facials done and bleached your facial hair.....Did you get it done before the trial?

Getting trails done, also means if you like the person's job you can always make adjustment as to your liking, you'll need to fixed, as to what you like or you don't like, for instance for eyeliner being too thick and your liking, you can always request to get a thinner liner, also if you like you lip lined more visible, can make request, as long as you like the person you want to get you ready, make sure you let the person know of what you like too.

Anyways...Best of luck...!!
Hey, I agree that pastry white is not a good look as I do not want to look like a ghost. And I'm in favour of more of Canadian style of makeup. I would love a natural glowly and fresh look: I felt Kathleen provided but Dimple and Angell did not. But Kathleen did a horrible lip job and the blush was too far back. The eye liner also was too thick and one was thicker than the other. However, since its summer and we all tan, there's nothing wrong with wanting to look lighter (like the way before). And I did inform them of my likes and dislikes to no avail. And I did have facials and waxed my face before I went.

Hi, I do not know what products she used, by I know she used a lot and I had airbrush makeup done (I also had airbrush makeup done by Dimple and Angell = but it didn't do anything to my skin, with dimples it looked worse (I looked darker than I am) and with Angell's I saw no coverage at all)
Re: Best Makeup Artist in Canada - Ontario GTA, Toronto, Markham, Missauga, etc
I know most people like to line their own lip, if you did not like the lip job you could line them yourself to your liking and let them fill your lip with lipstick, I don't see a big issue, as I like to line my own lip line, as well as my eyeliner, so I did those for my own wedding, as I'm more confortable doing them myself.
Re: Best Makeup Artist in Canada - Ontario GTA, Toronto, Markham, Missauga, etc
One should not get facial/or face wax done before going for a makeup trail, but one should get them done closer to the wedding date, at least a month before.
Re: Best Makeup Artist in Canada - Ontario GTA, Toronto, Markham, Missauga, etc
Wow LD, you already got trials done from so many people! I have a trial makeup appointment with Angell next week, but after reading your review, I am not so sure if I should go? Do you think it's worth a try? Oh and LD, did you try Xpressions? I have heard good things bout them too! So i am looking into that as well ..
pyari_si_bachi, could you also PM me your pics? I'd love to see how Shirley did the makeup. I know a lot of people who went to Shirley, but I have heard mixed reviews about her.
Re: Best Makeup Artist in Canada - Ontario GTA, Toronto, Markham, Missauga, etc
I personally dont think that one should have a bias opinion based upon one person's experience. I think for LD she needs a robot, where she can feed in data, and that computer do what she wants, OR if she know so much, why does'nt she does it herself.
If all the above mentioned makeup artist were'nt competent, they would be in business for so many years, and making brides happy on their big day.
I personally think every one has their own taste and preference. If i dont like to buy something from Walmart that does'nt mean Walmart carrys bad products or their quality is not up to standard.
Re: Best Makeup Artist in Canada - Ontario GTA, Toronto, Markham, Missauga, etc
^ i gotta agree with that. LD, you have to ease up- you are demanding perfection and unfortunately, you're not going to get it from anyone, and even if you do, you won't recognize it because you're being so particular.
if you didn't like these things at the time, why didn't you point them out and ask the artist to correct them? the artist is meant to work with you, not against you. next trial, why don't you bring pictures of what you do and don't like, and work with them to create a look you are happy with? they can't read your mind, you know? the important thing is you like their personality and if they're a good MUA, they'll listen to what you're saying and advise you of the next best move. and of course, you need to be willing to hear them out and trust their judgement too because they're the professionals you are hiring.
i had dimple do my makeup and i didn’t find anything wrong with what she did. and wahtever was “wrong”…i accept it was my own fault, one has to be realistic enough to know that an artist is only as good as their canvas. Sorry if this sounds too rude
