Pakhtunkhwa

There are precictions that the ANP will won 10-12 MNA’s from NWFP, and win a very large number of seats in the provincial assembly as well. No doub they will make the renaming of NWFP to Pakhtunkhwa, a demand to any party that seeks an alliance with them?

Considering that Nawaz Sharif agreed to this demand in 1997 after making an alliance with them, then went back on his word, I wonder which party will agree to it?

Re: Pakhtunkhwa

dude we love pakistan as much as you do.
a city-province-country belong to people who live there.
If they want to rename it let it be.
Big deal.

Re: Pakhtunkhwa

I don't find a big deal with it either unless the ANP actively starts destabilizing Pakistan like the role it and its buddies played when the USSR was financing awwghani communists until USSR's demise. Any dumb awwghans who get the idea that renaming the province to pukhtunkhwa means getting their WET DREAMS need to be smacked hard by army and ISI [their original job].

Re: Pakhtunkhwa

Will won, so even you admit that results have already been announced before the actual elections?

Re: Pakhtunkhwa

These are all predictions and in NA [population wise], NWFP doesn't really have that many seats compared to sindh [balochistan has even less].

Anyway, forget about how many seats when and where. Let us stick to the topic about renaming the province. I, for one, don't see it happening.

Re: Pakhtunkhwa

It should be changed to Khyber.

Re: Pakhtunkhwa

Wasn't that proposed by Musharraf??? I don't think even MMA was really on board with that..

Re: Pakhtunkhwa

I would rather it be kept as NWFP and that more important "issues" were focused upon ie education, social progression. Why are stupid politicians wasting time on renaming when they could put their energy into something of ACTUAL use.

Those people who have time to discuss renaming do not have to worry about income, medical costs, education costs...I wonder if those advocating the renaming and with hours to waste on it have financial problems? Probably not as those hours to waste on it would be put to earning more money for financial improvement.

Re: Pakhtunkhwa

I Have 2 points to make:-

  1. Why is it that this issue is such a big deal for those who dont even have any attachment to the area? I would love to se a thread on this subjec with ONLY people from NWFP contributing to it.

  2. Why dont we rename Karchi Pakhtunkhwa as it has the highest concentration of Pashtu speakers anywhere in the world?

Re: Pakhtunkhwa

A rose by any other name is still a rose.

Re: Pakhtunkhwa

I dont mind whatever the people of NWFP like to have name for them.

but notion that Sindhis have Sindh and Punjabis have Punjab is not logically correct.
Sindhis are called cause they are from Sindh!
Punjabis are called cause they are from Punjab not the other way around.

so first name the land of NWFP and name the people after that. in NWFP we are trying to do otherway around. naming the province after people.

or name it like Blochistan which is i guess named after people. in that sense it can be Pushtunistan or Pakhtunistan or Pakhtunkhua.

but thats my idea, it can be called anything what you people like to have.

Re: Pakhtunkhwa

So pashtuns now are the majority of karachi or is it illegal awwghans who now get to claim such bs in karachi?

No wonder it is coming from a person with a nick like you.. :hehe:

Re: Pakhtunkhwa

let ppl who live there name the place whatever they want to name it. eveyone should have that right.

Re: Pakhtunkhwa

khayber is good.

Re: Pakhtunkhwa

What did I bring???? I was supporting you chaps in your name change?

Re: Pakhtunkhwa

Hold a referendum in NWFP and let the people choose what they want to call their province.

Re: Pakhtunkhwa

^true.
but what should be the options? khayber and?

Re: Pakhtunkhwa

Let the next elected assembly choose a list of names after consulting their constituents and than put those names to referendum.

Re: Pakhtunkhwa

Yes exactly, well stated. :k:

Re: Pakhtunkhwa

Is the renaming woth all the expense, energy, time thats involved in a referendum which will be rigged anyway?

I dont agree with the name NWFP but which name can people agree on? If people disagree with a Pashtu related name then from non-Pashtun areas such as Hazara, Kohistan, Chitral and D I Khans bordering areas with Seariki speaking Dera Ghazi Kahn - will they be allowed to opt out and form their own areas?
