Re: Pak vs WI - Ist ODI Saturday April 23 2011 at Gros Islet, ST LUCIA
I have never seen such a boring ODI ever...
It was like a match in the heat of June-July 1983-84 played between Pakistan and newly born Srilanka at the desert of Jacobabad! or Multan!
The ground looks like mohan-jo-darho with hard dry mud patches and third class grass ... crowd without life is like as if those people gathered from ghaas-mandi, and players look like prisoners who are forced to play and threatened to send Guantanamo!

No Asif, it was for people who want a hitter to be at crease at every juncture of game in every format, I think they should stick to watching T20. If they want to watch ODIs/Tests they should learn what "building an inning" means. Cricket is not game of 4s and 6s only.
Exactly, well said. When batsmen build an innings we call it tuk tuk and get bored, when they get out playing rash shots trying to hit 4's and 6's we swear at them for lack of patience and not knowing how to build an innings. It was a very professional display today by both Asad and Misbah.

Thats true, Umar Sharif wasn't crying for no reason, to me he was father of Umar Sharif. Him and Anwar Maqsood made top class comedy/programs.

+ 1. We do need players like Miandad, Yousuf, Asad and Misbah. The middle period is where a one-day game is won or lost barring a collapse at the top of the order

Misbah is selfish who always play for himself... we have seen his display of so called 'building' and have witnessed how he built a mess for others...
If he is that good then why not all other 11 follow his 'team building' technique?
If he was able to save his wicket in this particular match , does not make him any better! He is a loser and was main cause in losing match in WC with his clueless tuk tuk while he could make singles! no one need his useless boundaries after wasting tons of balls!
even his strike rate after 'building inning' is not more than 80% ... and that too in this one sided match at an almost batting wicket!

Why do we need a strike rate of 100+ when chasing a small target of 222 on "almost batting wicket"?

Misbah is a solid batter, a consolidator...he's just not a good finisher (but that alone does not mean he should not be in the team!!)
We are just going round in circles but that SF defeat was a collective batting failure

Yep, and I always say that we need to make pairs with one hitter and a tuk tuker! our team order has 2 unreliable openers who are entirely different from other 11, then comes 3 tests players... then come 2-3 hard hitters at atime when those 3 tuk tuker already messed the match and leaving only few balls and tons of runs for those hard hitter! what kind of batting order is that ?

How many matches he played? just because he is 35 plus year old makes him solid ? what about Kamran Akmal and Abdul razzaq? they have played more solid inning than him and have won matches for Pakistan!
If he is not a finisher then what he is doing in the team? do we need just a tuk tuker or a good finisher who can win for us? are we that desperate and deserted that we cant find any replacement for him? why not try Azhar Ali ? ... Now we are praising Asad shafiq in ODI and T20, while our beloved captain sat him aside calling him test player! ...

ditto....
but remember janab, as a nation we are never satisfied....that is how we have been programmed...
as far as I am concerned, i just want Pak to win (at any cost....and whatever it takes)...and i admit I am a sore loser...

Also as a nation we lack the virtue of perseverance and patience. When we display patience its when we have no control on the situation and are acting like ostriches.
Re: Pak vs WI - Ist ODI Saturday April 23 2011 at Gros Islet, ST LUCIA
42 for solid batter ? in that case Muhammad Yousuf has average of 42 as well and both are of same age 37, then why Yousuf is out? is he better than him Yousuf?
Sir, these are all politics within the teams… we already have wasted a talent called **Asim **and now spending resources on a 37-38 years old guy… we should have tried Razzaq, Azhar Ali, and others!
Our political captain didn’t even tried Hammad in a less important match … what was Hammad’s role today?

I think it is all about finding the right balance between hitting and tuktuking too much in the middle overs. While Miandad, Yousuf, Misbah and Inzi are/were all good consolidators, Miandad and Inzi were clearly better than both Misbah and Yousuf at finishing off games
About Asad at this point we can safely say that he is a good consolidator
I think ? is confusing consolidation with ability to finish off the game
