I don't think Shoaib Malik can ever replace Saqlain's spin attack, but he can be a good part time spinner like Afridi who along with Malik bowled really well today, 37 runs from 10 overs and a wicket.

I think I have figured out the solution on who should open with Saeed Anwar for the test series.
** Younis Khan **
I think he will be a great contender for the opening slot for test.
He is a defensive type of player and rarely makes any mistakes and doesn't get beat behind the wickets, he is a slow starter and is almost guarenteed to stay on a wicket for a long time and the example he has shown in the past 5 one day matches, he took singles and doubles and scored some good knocks.

my team for test series

1.) Saeed Anwar
2.) Younis Khan
3.) Yousuf Youhana
4.) Inzimam ul Haq
5.) Mizbah ul haq
6.) Abdur Razzaq
7.) Wasim Akram
8.) Rashid Latif
9.) Waqar Younis
10.) Shoaib Akhtar
11.) Saqlain Mushtaq

The reason I picked Mizbah ul Haq over Shoaib Malik is that the way he converted his singles and played some interesting shots. I think he looks like real batsman besides we are not looking for a test side for the next world cup but a one day side.

Well I dont agree with you here.
Younus Khan is less talented than Nazir so I would replace him by Nazir and Misbah, by Shoaib Malik.

1.) Saeed Anwar
2.) Imran Nazir
3.) Shoaib Malik
4.) Yousuf Youhana
5.) Inzimam ul Haq
6.) Abdur Razzaq
7.) Wasim Akram
8.) Rashid Latif
9.) Waqar Younis
10.) Shoaib Akhtar
11.) Saqlain Mushtaq

c'mon man bring Afridi in....give him a chance...he scored a couple of fifites in sharjah

Imran Nazir in test!!
What a joke.
So far this kid has been given so many opportunities in one dayers and test but he has only done well really few times.

His performance in Sharjah and only 2 other innings outside Sharjah has been outstanding, other than that he has failed, only good use of a 12th man and can come in and sneak in some really fantastic catches.

He is young so what!
There is no room for the weak,
Shoaib Malik is the same age maybe 2 years older but less experience and so far he has been impressive in all 3 departments. Bowling, batting and fielding.

I think Imran Nazir should be called back every year for the sharjah, where only peroforms well.

Just like Nazir. Shoaib Malike has to use more fitwork for his shot selection, other than that he won't make into the test world, where you play more delievries for a longer period of time.

PCB has confirmed that Saeed won't be able to make it in the series against NZ, so here is my squad as follows

Younis Khan
Shoaib Malik
Youhana
Inzimam
Mizbah ul haq
Abdul Razzaq
Rashid Lstif
Wasim Akram
Waqar
Shoaib
Saqlain

Younis Khan is not an opener. He's a good, attacking middle order player who shouldnt be made another sacrificial lamb as was the case with the extremely talented but miss-used Mohammad Wasim.

Saeed Anwar is not only the best opener to ever play for Pakistan in either version of the game - but he is also one of the best openers the game has ever had. He is an automatic choice to open the innings in both versions of the game. Imran Nazir is a exciting young player who deserves a spot in the side and since he is a natural opener he should partner Saeed in the test matches. Afridi does not deserve to play as an opener in the test matches, especially against top quality attacks like the Aussies, South Africans and to a lesser extent the West Indies. Anwar and Nazir should be opening in the tests and Afridi can replace Nazir in the ODI side although I believe with the inclusion of Shoaib Malik - Pakistan has found another exciting allrounder who can Afridi a hard time in the quest for a ODI spot. Pakistan's best test side would be -

Saeed Anwar
Imran Nazir
Abdur Razzaq
Yousef Youhana
Inzamam Ul Haq
Younis Khan
Rashid Latif
Waqar Younis
Saqlain Mushtaq
Shoaib Akhter
Danish Kaneria

Wasim Akram has been over the hill for quite a while. I dont see why he deserves a spot in the test side. With Shoaib - Pakistan have the fastest bowler in the world - followed by Waqar who is quicker than Akram and more effective these days than the left armer - plus the steady Razzaq who's bowling is not upto test standards but he acts as a good support bolwer in the test matches - and besides Pakistan need his batting at number 3. Kaneria and Saqlain provide a good variety - and make for a balanced bowling attack.

Pakistani selectors should understand that the opening positions are the most important batting positions in a test match side. You cant put make shift openers in there just because they get an occasional big score because eventually they will be found out by top quality bowling attacks. Specialist openers are the key - Saeed is one of the best in the world - and Imran Nazir is a quality player who deserves a extended run to show what he is capable off.

If Saeed Anwar is not playing than my team would be

Younis Khan
Shoaib Malik
Inzimam ul haq
Yousuf Youhana
Shahid Afridi
Abdul Razzaq
Rashid Lstif
Wasim Akram
Waqar Younis
Shoaib Akhtar
Saqlain Mushtaq

Yohana has settled down well at the No. 3 position and he should stay there. Likewise, Razzaq does best at the No 6 position. That should also be left alone.

I think the team should be:

Imran Nazir
Shoaib Malik
Yousuf Yohana
Inzaman ul Haq
Younis Khan
Abdul Razzaq
Rashid Latif
Waqar Younis
Saqlain Mustaq
Danesh K
Shoaib Aktar

I would prefer Wasim Akram to Danesh K in reality. I do not think Pakistan has been winning matches with spinners on Pak soil of late.

A Wizard arrives neither early nor late, but precisely when he chooses to

If you are including either Shoaib Malik or Afridi then what is the use of another spinner?
Kaneria has so far been impressive against Bangladesh only, he needs to gain more practice on pitches outside subcontinent.
