Lets see who watched the series and what you say about individual Pakistani players (not the team). I’ll begin mine:
Azhar Ali: As a batsman this series was great for him, instead of coming down in the order he opened and did really well, though these were batting paradise pitches but still was highest scorer for Pakistan with 209 runs. He averaged 69 with a SR of 85.3 ! Didn’t watch games to judge his captaincy skills, but from the results looks like he has A LOT to learn.
Haris Sohail: 2nd highest total of 147 and 3rd highest average of 49 with SR of 80.32, but he has no patience to play longer inning. He is another Umar Akmal, he needs to work on temprament. Part time bowler, bowled 3 overs for 31 runs with no wickets.
Saad Nasim: 3rd highest total of 99 and 2nd highest average of 49.5 with SR of 79.83. He is okayish, Another part time spinner who bowled 6 overs for 46 runs with no wicket
Mohammad Rizwan: 4th highest total with below ar average of 28 with SR of 97
Wahab Riaz: was 5th in total runs with average of 33 and SR of 110.
Hafeez and Fawad had pathetic series with them scoring totals of 8 and 18 (lets not talk about their averages and SR). Sarfaraz was another disappointment with total runs of 13 with an average of 15.5, But what I am disappointed with is his immediately dropping in favor of Rizwan, this is how you “groom” a player?
Bowling was disastrous, in 3-ODI games our bowlers got a total of 10 wickets !!! I don’t know where to start on this. Saeed Ajmal’s action has changed and I really don’t know if he was tested in domestic before throwing him in International cricket? Same with Hafeez, his action just got cleared after rework and he starts playing/bowling.
I just dont understand why we dont hv a specialized pair of openers. IMO Azhar ali shouldnt be an opener even if he scores 100 in each innings. Second, why hafeez and Fawad Alam were given a chance in last one-day when they completely failed in 2 ODIs? Somebody has to take bold decisions or otherwise take responsibility of the disaster.
Regarding bowling, I dont think Pakistan has ever displayed this pathetic performance ever since its first advent in international cricket. Its utterly shameful.
And yes we dont need Ajmal if he cant perform. No matter wutever his ranking is.
I dont mind much Pakistan loosing in this series as long as they learn from it. But here comes the ironic part. They are not going to learn at all which is totally frustrating.
time for a fatiha on Pakistani cricket repo
Agreed, we need to do away with Hafeez, Gul, Ajmal. Until Aamir (from ban) and Irfan (from injury) is back we will be struggling to find good bowling unit then it will be hit (less) and miss (more).
We are unable to get some natural player and should search for talented players like we got Aamir and Asif.
Unfortunately after decades we are unable to get some talented batsmen, to whom we can depend. After Misbah and Younis retirement from Tests we will be in deed trouble so we should try to include some young batsmen especially for opening position and in middle order ELSE
Hamarai Dastaan Bhi Nah Hogi DastanooN MaiN
Pak cricket is in serious decline owing to our woefully substandard batting. Infact it has been in decline for a decade
Our style of play is way too defensive and out of step with the demands of modern day cricket. Looking at the top 4 teams in the World Cup, they were batting at a completely different level and intensity than us.
Yes rebuilding takes time but for those of you hiding behind ‘inexperienced’ excuse, let me remind you that we were in rebuilding phase after the 2007 WC (or when Inzy retired) and rest assured we will be in rebuilding phase after the next world cup in England in 2019.
We are making BD look better than they actually are. I can bet the A sides (let alone first XIs) of all the major teams would thrash this Bangladeshi team
We will always be an inconsistent side and an average batting unit, winning matches against good teams here and there mainly because of the bowlers. Among the established 10 nations, our batting is arguably the worst in world cricket.
Whether we are 50/2 or 150/2 (cf. 3rd ODI), our average score will still be 220-240 which sums up our substandard batting.
((ps. Thank God did not not bother to watch a single delivery of the ODI series (series happening so soon after the World Cup is badly timed imo) and I have no desire to watch the remaining games either))
1) What were the averages and non-strike rates of Hafeez and Fawad?
2) How did Sarfraz manage an average of 15.5 with total runs scored of 13?
Side note - If Haris Sohail with a strike rate of 80 exhibits any more patience, he would be the reincarnation of the one only ......
Sa1eem would agree.
What a frikking retard, he is the one who is taking Pak cricket apart, it looks like WC2003 all over again.
Admittedly Waqar made some mistakes during the World Cup but lets not look for lame excuses by just blaming the coach. The fact of the matter is unless we change our negative mindset and whole approach to batting, new players such as Sami Aslam and recalled Fawad Alam etc. or even new coach won't make any difference in the present environment (I know it's early days for some new faces but the recent series is an example of that). Our batting is 'bakvas' to put it mildly, way too defensive & negative. We don't bat with the confidence, fluency or imagination of the top 4 or 5 teams and Waqar is not responsible for that. We have had this negative mind frame for a good 8 to 10 years. Even Bangladesh and many associate teams bat more positively than us. Probably we are just not good enough at the moment.
zyada kuch nahi paya. kaafi zyada zillat paayi though.
I would wait till the next series before passing remarks on Ajmal's effectiveness with new action.
We badly need Aamir back. Rahat Ali doesn't cut it. Umar gul has consistency issues. A bowling attack of Wahab, Aamir, Junaid & Irfan would be awesome to have.
plus there is a dire need of an all rounder. Wahab Riaz is now a consistent performer and bats well down the order, he is no faulkner.
