NEW YORK: Pakistan would become fourth largest nuclear state at the end of this decade, A US website, The Huffington Post reported.
The website claimed that the world’s five original nuclear weapons countries have all suspended production of fissile materials for new weapons and are negotiating cuts in their nuclear arsenals. But Pakistan is steadily building more nuclear weapons, adding production capacity to produce plutonium and enrich uranium, and building new missiles to deliver nuclear warheads.
It further claimed that the nuclear risks in Pakistan are three-fold: its non-proliferation record is poor, there are concerns about the security of sensitive nuclear materials, and there is no sign of a slowdown in its nuclear weapons drive. A global response needs to be calibrated to address all three of these potential threats.
Former UN weapons inspector David Albright, reported that Pakistan appears to be building a fourth plutonium reactor at the Khushab complex, and is expanding plutonium separation capabilities at another site.
Another report, from a US think tank, says Pakistan now has 70 to 90 nuclear warheads, more than its rival India. This puts Pakistan on track to command the world’s fourth-largest nuclear weapons arsenal by the end of the decade.
The evidence suggests that Pakistan is trying to develop a second-strike nuclear capability. Pakistan has tested cruise and other missiles that can carry strategic warheads from land or even from submarines.
North Korea and Pakistan also continue to partner each other such as in matters of missile and uranium enrichment technologies.
Pakistan is not party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty or NPT. In other words, the role of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to provide comprehensive safeguards is limited.
The existing three Pakistani nuclear reactors at Khushab require more than 40 tons of uranium annually, The Huffington Post, concluded.
Re: Pak to become 4th largest nuclear state at end of decade
This is not exactly good news. Not bad but not good either.
I fervently Pray for a World without Nukes not even the small advantage of Nuclear power is worth it. It is my belief that Nuclear power sources should be wiped out no more Nuclear weapons no more Nuclear facilities in fact a global ban on all things pertaining to it… I know it comes across as over the top but lets face it never in human history has anything been more destructive and franlky so dangerous. I want to one day wake up and know the World has no more Nukes and how good that would be… either that or no World at all.
Re: Pak to become 4th largest nuclear state at end of decade
when the so called peaceful world end its own nuke piles, Pakistan will also do that. Pakistan is up for even nuke free zone in South Asia, there are other players who doesnt agree to this.
sitting in US they worry too much about Pakistan toys when their own backyard is full of it.
Re: Pak to become 4th largest nuclear state at end of decade
This is one American report that I'm happy to see. It's everyone's right to build the most powerful weapons that they can. If the US has thousands of nukes, they deserve it because they worked for it. So did Pakistan.
Re: Pak to become 4th largest nuclear state at end of decade
Well said.
Seriously Humanity does not deserve Nukes… Anyone who has any idea just how evil these weapons are and more alarmingly what kind of nutjobs get their hands on them then seriously they would have trouble sleeping.
Do you trust the likes of Men like French President Sarkozy a known drunkard and pragmatist with the arming controls to 200 war heads? Seriously?
Do I trust the likes of Isreal and America even some of my own Pakistani friends with power… Hell no.
Thier the sort of low lives that send hundreds and thousands to thier death yet they themselves have probably never faced a gun in thier lives.
I just hate it when these so called civilised thugs across the World have to hide behind these cruel Weapons and they have the temerity to suggest people like myself are crazy just becuase we like fighting for a cause we believe in…
People like myself at least understand the horrors of war, what it’s like to face fire, to feel fear in the slit trenches, to see friends and fammily dead around you…
Yet these scumbag Politicians just love thier toys and they even toy with us… they toy with our sentiments, they toy with our money they toy with our very souls… we live and die for them but they have no pity on us or others… to them it’s all about the power.
To me it’s all about living for what you believe or dying becuase others wont let you live.

Pakistan also happens to be the most unstable state to possess nuclear weapons, which makes it like a blind man with a gun. Thats what makes the rest of the players so concerned about Pak's nukes.
Re: Pak to become 4th largest nuclear state at end of decade
I don't mind the nukes, I'm all for them. But the reality of the situation is we can barely afford to spend more money on nukes. Imagine if the same resources were diverted towards education, at the end of the decade we could have a significantly higher literacy rate.

Not that I am for Nuclear weapons but then countries who took first step in making the weapons should also take first step to get rid of it.
Secondly, Pakistan being unstable in the sense that some day some crazy extremist will hire a lock smith and break into the nuclear storage, load the weapons on U-Haul and transport the weapons into Tora-Bora, is nothing but a propaganda. Its old technique of create so much smoke so people cant see whats right and whats wrong.
Even the chances of "religious extremist" (as they call it) taking over the govt by winning election or otherwise is less than chances of extremists winning in India.
and finally, as far as nuclear safety record is concerned, Pakistan record is as good (if not better) than many other countries
Having said all this, I am living for the day when Pakisan will become 4th best economy of the world or 4th best educated country of the world or 4th more livable country of the world.
Re: Pak to become 4th largest nuclear state at end of decade
Yes, I agree with that stance in principle :k:
Not quite true. In a country where senior leaders can be killed in the name of “blasphemy law” and their killers are considered heroes, where the day you dont have a suicide bomber striking you start wondering whats going on, I am not sure how long before extremists get their hands on the nukes.

reminds me of killing of Senior Leaders like Gandhi, Indra Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and so on .... and I think killer of these are still considered "hero" by considrable majority. Does that mean India is an unstable state?
Thats exactly the misconception I am talking about "....how long before extreamists get their hands on the nukes" .....
With this i rest my case as i Know we can not agree on this :)
Re: Pak to become 4th largest nuclear state at end of decade
what's the use of building this nuke when you can't even use them.
all it's needs one quality nuke to destroy entire world,in real time scenario there is no chance of using nukes in war.unless its agains't some kind of alien :P

Factually inaccurate comparison :) Gandhi & Indira Gandhi's killers were awarded the death sentence, while Rajiv's killer perished in the suicide bombing. And very few people consider these killers as "heroes", unlike the hordes that thronged the street of Pakistan supporting the killers of Taseer.
But I agree that we cannotagree on this - unless you stop looking at this through the lens of nationalism that is ;)
Re: Pak to become 4th largest nuclear state at end of decade
I have my utmost respect for Pakistan and Mr.Khan in this arena.
Pakistan challenged all odds, attained the status of a nuclear state(though officially not a nuclear power) ,despite having suffered a huge loss at the hands of India in 1971.A due credit goes to Mr.Bhutto and let me admit you one thing.Your Nuclear power has deterred us from taking aggressive steps on many occassions.Indians hollering here agaisnt Pakistan's Nuclear capability are either fed by their elder's fables, disillusioned or being jealous.
I do not know the credibility of the news but Pakistan is a strong country that can keep India at bay.
Re: Pak to become 4th largest nuclear state at end of decade
Pakistan will make 400+ nukes and win the next match comfortably !! Happy now Arli ? ;)
If they are contained with 400+ ,along with me you also should be happy.Going by the current rate they will exceed even that. You can decide whether to be happy or sad. :)

Agreed totally.
It was our security lapses precipitated by sheer lethargy resulted in these assassinations.
