**Pak team accorded warm welcome on home coming **

LAHORE: Their heartbreaking loss to India in the World Cup semifinal notwithstanding, Pakistan's cricket team was accorded a grand welcome on its homecoming at Karachi and Lahore airports.

The fans carrying banners and garlands and shouting slogans, welcomed the team at both Karachi and Lahore airports.

Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif received cricketers at the Lahore airport.

“You have done us proud by reaching the semi-finals after beating bigger teams. Victory and defeat is part and parcel of the game and we accept it,” Shahbaz told reporters at the airport.

“The people appreciate your hard work and hope you will continue to perform and improve in the same manner,” he said while announcing a grand reception for the players on April 5 in Lahore.

Pakistan squad reached Karachi from India via Dubai early this morning.

While Afridi, Younis Khan and Asad Shafiq left for their homes in Karachi, the rest of the players flew to Lahore.

PCB Chief Ijaz Butt said he was happy to see the response of the people.

“I am happy to see the welcome given to the players because they need our support and encouragement to perform better in future,” Butt said.

Re: Pak team accorded warm welcome on home coming

AA brothers. Let's think with a stable mind. Does superiority in cricket ranking actually make you any superior? Take the example of USA. They are neither a great team in cricket nor in Football, yet they are leading the world because of ideological reasons. Would you find migrants from America to India just because India is no. 1 in cricket? Would an American or a European give up his passport to get an Indian Passport and feel proud about it just because India is superior in cricket rankings? Rather, its the other way round. Rasulullah SAWS did not waste time on such useless matters and rather focused on the Ahkam as-Shariah which lead to the Islamic state which was dominating the world for more than 1000 years! The Islamic ideology is superior even to American Capitalist system and if implemented will once again make the Muslims the leaders of the world. Lets focus on that. This is a distraction from Satan to keep us busy in useless things while ignoring the important obligation of Islam. Lets rise and establish the Islamic ideology by establishing the Islamic State on the lines of the Prophethood, which is by the way, a promised prophecy.

There’s a lot of other reasons for us to win the WC, Arli

Re: Pak team accorded warm welcome on home coming

Yes yes yes .. for god sake yes

Re: Pak team accorded warm welcome on home coming

To be a leader, a person needs to be a good follower first. Muslims today follow Mullahs and jug heads like Zaid Hamid instead of Quran and Islam. Forget about leading, first learn to follow, when you are good in that, then talk about leading.

Re: Pak team accorded warm welcome on home coming

i am heartbroken that he had to apologize. i mean what for? they were one match away from the cup. that is a huge matter of pride in itself.
i understand if they lost a series 5-0 but not for this world cup.

damn that media hype and pressure on the players.

Re: Pak team accorded warm welcome on home coming

Re: Pak team accorded warm welcome on home coming

I understand that the team landed in Karachi in the wee hours of morning.

Knowing that the Pak team did better than expected - still not sure I am fully convinced that the Pak team did enough to deserve such a welcome by fans esp at such an inconvenient hour.

Somebody famously said - "Winning is not everything, it is the only thing". When you lose, the only people on your side are your wife and dog.

Or may be there is a psychological aspect at play here. Fans rationalizing a negative outcome for self-consolation. (not sure if I am making sense).

But then again Salman Butt was accorded a hero's welcome as well when he returned from England after the Spot fixing scandal. So not sure about the Pakistani mindset.

Re: Pak team accorded warm welcome on home coming

Nice. An unusually mature and level headed response from a usually Jazbati quom.

Afridi & Co did their best…condisering disasters in 2010 from all quarters…but could have have been better to reach the Finale…like:

  • Dropping Tendulkar 4 times…

  • Umar Gul conceding too many runs according to his standards

  • Afridi’s below par captaincy in the semis…keep giving overs to Gul while he was having bad time…Afridi didn’t look back at Razzaq after allowing him just 2 overs…

  • Some Pak batsmen playing too many dotballs…hoping to score at the end…which did not happen…

  • Too many politicians calling Afridi before the match and interfering with cricket.- Indian bowlers engineered to take the key batsmen’s wicket…while the Pak bowlers went on ‘happy go lucky mode’…

Re: Pak team accorded warm welcome on home coming

Afridi has become a good speaker now. I didnt know his views about india.
Reporters are trying to get something anti India out of him but he restrained.
He deserves my respect:salute:
