First of all, it is team that wins the match, individual player contributes. Anyhow, for a team to rely on particular player, team rely on his good average (Fawad has highest average than any Pakistani player), rely on player who can make runs under pressure (Fawad has shown several times that he can make runs under pressure), and can also make runs fast (that is also what Fawad shown many time).
You want to know some real examples? … So, here it is:
Bangladesh Match (4 March 2014): After losing opening match against SL in Asian tournament, Pakistan called Fawad.
Pakistan was losing second match against BD too, chasing 327, Pakistan was 5 for 225 in 42[SUP]nd[/SUP] over, still needing 102 runs to win in 8 over at over 12 runs per over. A mammoth tasks by all means. Who got Pakistan through?
Initially, Fawad gave stability to the team, than scored fast with Afridi, to make Pakistan win the match.
It was partnership of Fawad Alam and Shahid Afridi. They made quick runs without getting out, and Pakistan won. Fawad stayed on the crease until last over and when he got out, Pakistan only needed 1 runs to tie and 2 runs to win that Pakistan scored and won the match to reach Final (against SL).
Fawad made 74 in 70 balls with 2 sixes.
Afridi made 59 runs in 25 balls with 7 sixes.
Between them they hit 9 out of 10 sixes Pakistan hit.
So, it was Fawad and Afridi who made Pakistan win the match.
Second ODI Fawad played in Asian tournament, was final against SL. Even though Pakistan lost final against SL, when Fawad came to crease, Pakistan was 18 for 3. Fawad gave stability to the team, and it was due to Fawad that Pakistan managed to post reasonable score of 260.
Fawad made 114 runs at SR of 85, and brought Pakistan in a position that they could have won the match.
Unfortunately, Pakistani bowlers could not defend the total of 260, and Pakistan lost.
Let see the only other ODI Pakistan won after Bangladesh (mentioned above).
Pakistan was given target of 276 to win the match. Pakistan lost 4 wickets for 94 in 20[SUP]th[/SUP] over, and Fawad came in. Pakistan needed stability and runs, but 5[SUP]th[/SUP] wicket fell at 106 runs in 23[SUP]rd[/SUP] over.
Thus Pakistan needed 170 Runs in 27 overs at the rate of 6.3 runs per over (more than 1 run per ball), with 5 wickets in hand and only recognized batsmen pair on crease. Any further wicket falls, and Pakistan had said good bye to the game.
Anyhow, Fawad gave stability to team keeping the score ticking too, and with help of Sohaib Maqsood, made Pakistan win the match.
Fawad made 62 runs in 61 balls.
Shoaib Maqsood made 89 runs in 73 balls.
Because of these two players (Fawad and Shoaib), Pakistan managed to reach the target and won the match.
Since Pakistan only won 2 ODI matches out of their last 9 ODI matches, and in both winning matches there is big contribution of Fawad, so, what do you want to know more?
