Pak Squads for T/20 and ODI's against NZ

Re: Pak Squads for T/20 and ODI's against NZ

Chanderpaul was very effective ...

at the bating Number we are positioning Fawad - we need a solid hitter , who can finish off well .

i have seen many time with fawad Alam ; he is at times unable to connect the ball ; hitting is way beyond .

Re: Pak Squads for T/20 and ODI's against NZ

Ability to rotate strike and keep scoreboard ticking is not a good style and technique, I agree. He should only be hitting 4s and 6s, wait for the bad ball even if it takes 2-3 overs waiting for it.

Did any of these great all rounders just retire like last year?

Re: Pak Squads for T/20 and ODI's against NZ

So dont you think he should come 2nd or 3rd ?? keep rotating the strike ( hold one end firmly )

Dunno about last year ....

but we need good all rounders in that place ... that is my point

Re: Pak Squads for T/20 and ODI's against NZ

There is no particular spot for an all-rounder to play, its about his own skills. For example Hafeez is an all-rounder but plays at top, Wasim, Razzaq used to play in lower-middle etc.

Re: Pak Squads for T/20 and ODI's against NZ

As long as we keep selecting people like Afridi, Hafeez, Gul, etc we can't really win.

Afridi and Hafeez, 2 easy wickets for any opposition, Hafeez the dot ball expert and Afridi the tuller come and giveaway the easy catch wicket.
As long as we got these losers then u can expect to not win anything

Gul....wasn't he the one who said that he was under lot of pressure against India in previous WC. Seriously, when ur "star" bowler says that about any opposition before the match it tells u what the result will be.

Pakistan lacks genuine pace bowlers, we got enough of these "medium pacers" who can't bowl batsmen out. We need bowlers with lots of pace which increases chance of wickets due to speed factor. Only Irfan is fast, rest of them are all medium

kick out ajmal, without doosra he is useless anyway. Better to stick with yasir shah, raza hasan, zulfiqar baber, for spin.

Re: Pak Squads for T/20 and ODI's against NZ

Pakistan really needs to work on its batting line

Re: Pak Squads for T/20 and ODI’s against NZ

It is certain that there is lot of discrimination in Pakistan, including Pakistan cricket, and when a country do not appreciate efforts and ability of players, do injustice and nepotism, than it takes away desires of a team to perform for country, rather, if they perform, they perform for themselves … because they are not in team on merit but something else.

In my opinion, merit should be criteria to select a team, else at least for me, I have no feeling for that team. To me, merit means what a player performed, and that should be criteria for selection. Here are records of Pakistani best ODI players. I highlighted current players. Remember, anyone who is not in list, their average and strike rates are below the players mentioned.

The list shows the top 30 strike rates

I cannot understand that Fawad who has higher average as well as higher Strike rate is not in team, and players like Misbah, Azhar Ali, Ahmed Shahzad and Yunus Ahmed are in team as batsmen when their average as well as Strike rate is less than Fawad (well, Yunus average is 31 compared to Fawad 45 … but Strike rate is almost same)?

Actually, if one go by average (what most team goes as long as players have reasonable strike rate), than Fawad average his second highest ever for Pakistan ODI player, and none in Pakistan team has better batting average then Fawad, still they are in team but Fawad is not. Why?

Note: Fawad has highest first class average for any Pakistan player ever, and has highest first class average than any player anywhere in the world playing cricket today, and even though he has given very few chance in test, he made century in his first test, and never had average below 40, still he is not even get selected for test, why?

Actually, looking at his first class average of over ‘over 56 runs per completed inning’, ODI average of ‘45 runs per completed inning’ and Strike rate of ‘75 runs per 100 balls’, a player who is excellent fielder (probably best Pakistan has) and can bowl too, he should be in any world top test and ODI team, leave Pakistani test and ODI team … but?

Mujhay tou kuch samajh nahi ata, can any one give reasonable answer?

Re: Pak Squads for T/20 and ODI's against NZ

mujhay lagta hay Fawad Alam ne kuchh logon ki bhains-en churayee hayn :(

Re: Pak Squads for T/20 and ODI's against NZ

Are you taking sense or have something fishy in your eyes and mind?

You mean, those whose strike rate is below Fawad and also average below Fawad, they have good technique and solid striking power? ...

For instance ... Misbah, Azhar Ali, Ahmed Shahzad ... all have Average as well as strike rate below Fawad, so why they are in team?

Anyhow, strike rate of '75 runs per 100 balls' in ODI is not bad, or is it?

As for sending him in lower order, than is it his fault? Ideally he should be at number 3 where we have Azhar Ali whose average is 41 (compared to Fawad 45) and strike rate is 64 (compared to Fawad 75). Azhar Ali fist class average is 36 ... compared to Fawad 56.

In test cricket, it is runs that make a team win and Fawad makes lot of runs. On the other hand, in ODI it is runs at good strike rate that make a team win ... and Fawad makes lot of runs at good strike rate.

So, can you see that what you wrote is not true but absurd.

Re: Pak Squads for T/20 and ODI's against NZ

Bhai ... aap thori tou aqal say, fact samnay rakh ker, likha karo :)

If he cannot connect the ball and still has highest ODI average (45) in Pakistani team ... and also a reasonably high strike rate of 75 ... strike rate better than players like Misbah, Shahzad, Azhar, Hafiz, Yunus ... who are in team than ... leave connecting with the ball, probably most Pakistani batsmen could not see the ball ... Right?

Well, what do you say about players like Majid Khan and Inzamam-ul-Haq ... as both have average as well as Strike rate less than Fawad ... so, for you, there technique were bad and they had no strike power?

And yea ... Fawad Alam can bowl (just like, many batsmen can bowl), but that does not mean he gets into team as all rounder. He has his place in team as batsman ... and he is best ODI batsman Pakistan has ... and is also best batsman for test (obviously if given chance test).

He is also good fielder, something most Pakistani players are not.

Re: Pak Squads for T/20 and ODI’s against NZ

I wanted to see Fawad in Test Squad but he is out from ODI Team, simply pathetic. Enough said about PCB but Misbah is also responsible for this who is always interested to give chance to his club players. He should think beyond his club.
This player remembering me Aftab Baloch but at that time we had very strong batting line up so he couldn’t make place in team but now we don’t have a nice batting line up especially in ODI so why on earth no place for him.

Gul most pathetic bowler in Pakistan Cricket history who have given so many chances but simply a 3rd class club level bowler. Same case is with Junaid and we are trying our best to spoil this bowler.

Zulfiqar Babr in ODI :smack:

What a team we have for ODI and WC.

Re: Pak Squads for T/20 and ODI's against NZ

All baatein aik taraf !!!

can you Relay on him to win you matches ?

Re: Pak Squads for T/20 and ODI's against NZ

Aap bongiyan kewn mar rahay ho ... I hope before writing the post, you should have checked the records. :)

First of all, it is team that wins the match, individual player contributes. Anyhow, for a team to rely on particular player, team rely on his good average (Fawad has highest average than any Pakistani player), rely on player who can make runs under pressure (Fawad has shown several times that he can make runs under pressure), and can also make runs fast (that is also what Fawad shown many time).

You want to know some real examples? … So, here it is:

Bangladesh Match (4 March 2014): After losing opening match against SL in Asian tournament, Pakistan called Fawad.

Pakistan was losing second match against BD too, chasing 327, Pakistan was 5 for 225 in 42[SUP]nd[/SUP] over, still needing 102 runs to win in 8 over at over 12 runs per over. A mammoth tasks by all means. Who got Pakistan through?

Initially, Fawad gave stability to the team, than scored fast with Afridi, to make Pakistan win the match.

It was partnership of Fawad Alam and Shahid Afridi. They made quick runs without getting out, and Pakistan won. Fawad stayed on the crease until last over and when he got out, Pakistan only needed 1 runs to tie and 2 runs to win that Pakistan scored and won the match to reach Final (against SL).

Fawad made 74 in 70 balls with 2 sixes.
Afridi made 59 runs in 25 balls with 7 sixes.

Between them they hit 9 out of 10 sixes Pakistan hit.

So, it was Fawad and Afridi who made Pakistan win the match.

Second ODI Fawad played in Asian tournament, was final against SL. Even though Pakistan lost final against SL, when Fawad came to crease, Pakistan was 18 for 3. Fawad gave stability to the team, and it was due to Fawad that Pakistan managed to post reasonable score of 260.

Fawad made 114 runs at SR of 85, and brought Pakistan in a position that they could have won the match.

Unfortunately, Pakistani bowlers could not defend the total of 260, and Pakistan lost.

Let see the only other ODI Pakistan won after Bangladesh (mentioned above).

Pakistan was given target of 276 to win the match. Pakistan lost 4 wickets for 94 in 20[SUP]th[/SUP] over, and Fawad came in. Pakistan needed stability and runs, but 5[SUP]th[/SUP] wicket fell at 106 runs in 23[SUP]rd[/SUP] over.

Thus Pakistan needed 170 Runs in 27 overs at the rate of 6.3 runs per over (more than 1 run per ball), with 5 wickets in hand and only recognized batsmen pair on crease. Any further wicket falls, and Pakistan had said good bye to the game.

Anyhow, Fawad gave stability to team keeping the score ticking too, and with help of Sohaib Maqsood, made Pakistan win the match.

Fawad made 62 runs in 61 balls.
Shoaib Maqsood made 89 runs in 73 balls.

Because of these two players (Fawad and Shoaib), Pakistan managed to reach the target and won the match.

Since Pakistan only won 2 ODI matches out of their last 9 ODI matches, and in both winning matches there is big contribution of Fawad, so, what do you want to know more?

Re: Pak Squads for T/20 and ODI's against NZ

Probably he is looking for a 'single-handedly-won-the-match' type :D

Re: Pak Squads for T/20 and ODI’s against NZ

You asked to compare Fawad with players coming on that number (batting order) from other countries, so I am giving you batting averages of all ODI players ever played (as Fawad played at every batting order, from opener to No 7). From here, you can see where Fawad stands compared to other ODI batsmen. From figures, it is obvious that, leave any particular batting order, Fawad is better batsman than most players from anywhere in the world, coming at any batting order. In history of ODI, only 15 players have average better than Fawad … of those 15, only 6 are playing today. So, forget any particular batting order, as the figures says, you could not find many players at any batting order in ODI, better than Fawad.

So think, when there are no Pakistan player who can bat better than Fawad, in whatever batting order, than how any other Pakistan batsman can get included in the team (be that Test or ODI) and Fawad left out?

Minimum of 20 innings

As for place in test team … here is what wikipedia writes about way Pakistan treats talent and merit. Fawad is victim of this stinking attitude that exists in Paksitan.

Fawad Alam - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Test Careeredit]

In July 2009, Fawad became the first Pakistani cricketer to score a Test century on debut away from home, and the tenth to score a century on debut. In the second innings of the Second test against Sri Lanka, Fawad scored 168 this is the second highest score on debut for Pakistan, before this Yasir Hameed scored 170 in 2003 in Karachi. He along with Captain Younus Khan scored 200 runs for the second wickets partnership, breaking the previous record of 151 runs between Mohsin Khan and Majid Khan at Lahore in 1981–82. It was also highest partnership for Pakistan against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka.[SUP][3]](Fawad Alam - Wikipedia)[/SUP] This is also 15 highest score on Test debut.[SUP][4]](Fawad Alam - Wikipedia)[/SUP] This is also the highest score by a Pakistani on debut from a losing side, previously held by Younus.[SUP][5]](Fawad Alam - Wikipedia)[/SUP] However, just 2 Test matches later, he was dropped from the Test Squad.
