The Pakistan Cricket Board has released the itinerary for the forthcoming three-way one-day series involving Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.

Some of the fixtures take place during the holy month of Ramadan, but the PCB pointed out that the crowded international schedule - the Chanpions Trophy doesn’t finish until Sept 25 - reduced the options.

The tournament starts on Sept 30, and climaxes in a final at Lahore on Oct 16.

Fixtures:
Sept 30 - Pakistan v Zimbabwe at Multan
Oct 3 - Pakistan v Zimbabwe at Peshawar
Oct 6 - Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Karachi
Oct 9 - Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe at Rawalpindi
Oct 11 - Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe at Rawalpindi
Oct 14 - Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Lahore (day/night)
Oct 16 - Final at Lahore (day/night)

The Zimbabweans will also play a two-day practice match (Sheikhupura, Sept 20-21) and a four-day game (Lahore, Sept 23-26) before the tournament starts.

Its unfair for Pakistani players as they'll have to play ICC final on 25th Sept and then fly back and play this tri-nation tournament!

Also why the heck Pakistan play with lousy teams like Zimbabvwe.

I think ICC should review Zim and BDSH test status. They are going no where.

Match practice, ofcourse. Last time we played Sri Lanka, we didn't get a lot of time to spend on the wicket. So we need some other teams in the mix to keep things interesting.

why zimbabwe why why why why?

we keep playing Zimbabwe, BD, NZ while India keeps playing Australia... whos gonna gain?

Younis and Yousef Youhana can’t wait…:bhangra:
Younis Khan feels he can hit a 100 against Zim now…

On a serious note perhaps Pakistan can check out players like Asim Kamal, maybe as a wicket keeper batsman, though the chances are remote since Inzi wants Moin Khan as he is some one he can seek advice from.
Others that come to mind are players like Saeed Bin Nasir and Salman Butt.

They are free and can be called any part of country with no Naz-o-Nakhra.

^ You don't mean they are disposable, do you?

Life goes on - Home Tri Series ( PAK-ZIM-SRI)

ICC Champions Trophy campaign is finish for Pakistan and the home series is about to begin. It's not a big series but it would give PCB and Woolmer to try out some young bloods and to prepare for big series in Australia.

There would be 7 ODI's ( PAK- ZIM - SRI ) and 2 test series against Sri Lanka.

Schedule for ODI's:

30 Sep Pakistan v Zimbabwe Multan

3 Oct Pakistan v Zimbabwe Peshawar

6 Oct Pakistan v Sri Lanka Karachi
9 Oct Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe Rawalpindi

11 Oct Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe Rawalpindi

9 Oct Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe Rawalpindi

14 Oct Pakistan v Sri Lanka Lahore (D/N)

16 Oct Final Lahore (D/N)

Here are some news of practice matches.

All-rounder Elton Chigumbura hit 81 for Zimbabwe in their two-day match against a Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman’s XI.
The 18-year-old’s fighting knock helped his side score 215 all out on the first day ahead of a tri-series one-day tournament, also involving Sri Lanka.

The hosts were 62-0 in 11 overs at the close in the 90-over-a-side match.

Zimbabwe slumped to 119-7 before Chigumbura added 85 with Tawanda Mupariwa, who scored 26 not out. Paceman Mohammad Irshad took 4-56.

Mohammad Irshad in action against Zimbabwe.

^ Doesn’t he looks like Shoaib Akhter to some extent and the rumours suggests that he bowls at around 169km/h

Ashar Zaidi exposes Zimbabwe’s deficiencies

Zimbabwe’s tour of Pakistan started with a draw, but aside from Elton Chigumbura’s innings yesterday, there was precious little for them to celebrate. On the second day of their match against a Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman’s XI at Sheikupura their bowlers were ripped apart as the home side closed on 398 for 2.

The man of the day was Ashar Zaidi, who completed his unbeaten double hundred shortly before the umpires called time. He put on 158 for the first wicket with Asif Zakir (61) and 174 for the third with Faisal Iqbal (86).

Graeme Cramer, an 18-year-old legspinner, took both wickets to fall, finishing with 2 for 69 on an otherwise grim day for the bowlers.

Ashar Zaidi reaches his double hundred

I know it would be hard for some people to support Pakistan after that horrible defeat against WI in ICCCT but i think Pakistan is still on the right track.

There's no point in playing either inzi or yoyo. its time for pakistan to experiment, pick a side and see if they can beat sri lanka without inzi/yoyo.

Moin, Useless khan shud be dropped. Moin should be kept only for Tests for his so called experience.

rao iftikar, bazid khan, qaiser abbas, wahab raiz, mansoor amjad, zulqarnian (Under-19 WK) shud all be looked @t!

Good knock by Ashar, though Zim bowlers are all new and inexperienced, 200 is still a good knock :k: shows his temprament.

In the schedule above, Pak plays 2 games against SL and 2 against Zimbabwe, but why does SL play 3 games against Zimbabwe? :konfused:

Anyway, playing against lower ranking teams will take us no where, we should be playing more with Aus, Eng, NZ, SA, WI.

Re: Life goes on - Home Tri Series ( PAK-ZIM-SRI)

So the tournament will be over just before Ramadan, which will most probably start around 18th October.

Finally some good planning. :k:

Actually I think that these lower ranked teams will be a blessing in disguise for Woolmer. If any high profile teams were coming to Pakistan there would be too much pressure to win which would inhibit any experimentation that Woolmer would like to have done. Now that we have relativeley easier opponents, especially in matches with zimbabwe, I think Woolmer should go all out for new players.

Lets face it we need new talent…badly. What batsman have we produced since Youhana? None. We need atleast 2 or 3 SOLID, YOUNG and RELIABLE batsman. Just talent doesn’t cut it, as we see Hameed, Nazir and Farhat floundering constantly.

Even in terms of bowling, shoaib is getting old, and I doubt he will be sending down any 95 MPH balls in 2007. We need to think in terms of the future, no use introducing any 26 year old fast bowlers or 28 year old batsmen. That won’t do us any good. Also I think Woolmer may want to consider his allrounder policy. I think 3 in razzak, afridi and malik are a bit much. Our batting virtually finishes right after youhana, there isn’t a single batsman after Youhana at no. 5/6 that can be excpected to get a big score. SPECIALISTS people!

I think it will definitely be an interesting series but wouldn’t have any high exectations though. Who knows, we might stumble upon another Anwar or Miandad, Wasim or Waqar!

It will be 2 games against each other.

hello143 just copied the following line twice:

9 Oct Sri Lanka v Zimbabwe Rawalpindi

Actually I just checked cricinfo.com, hello143 copied it from that site, its cricinfo's mistake. Thanks for pointing that out Umer.

Well actually the 2 Tests were meant for ZIM to play against PAK but since ICC scrapped the Tests for ZIM for a while ZIM is only playing the ODI's ......

SL will play the 2 Tests only becoz PCB had to fulfill it's agreement with the broadcasters to offer them a certain amout of Cricket on home soil containing Tests & ODI's ...... Otherwise PCB may had to pay some of the money back to the Broadcasters (ARY Digital & Ten Sports) ......

But i think a few weeks rest before the 2 1/2 months long absorbing Tour of AUS would've been much better for the players than this ..... hopefully Wollmer & Co. will try new blood for both the ODI's and Tests and rest the Key players ...... Also avoiding a higher Injury-risk

I comletely agree with skhan here. We def need to find some young solide players during this series. We should atleast find 2 good line-length bowlers and 2 solid batsmen during these ODI and Test series.

In my opinion these players should def be given a chance:

Bowling : Rao Ifthikar, Mohammad Irshad ( pic at the top ) and Abdar Rauf

Batting: Asim Kamal, Bazid Khan and Qaiser Abbas

WK: Zulqarnain Haider- under 19 WK - heard alot about this batting and wicketkeeping.

Misbahul Haq punishes Zimbabwe in side game
Thu 23 Sep, 3:24 PM

LAHORE, Pakistan (AFP) - Pakistan's Misbahul Haq continued to punish visiting Zimbabwe with a hard-hitting century on the opening day of a four-day side-game in the eastern city of Lahore.

Haq, 30, hit a dozen boundaries and seven towering sixes to score 130 and lead the Pakistan Cricket Board Patron's XI to a mammoth 353-5 in the 83 overs before bad light ended Zimbabwe's miseries.

Haq, who has played five Tests and 11 one-day internationals, used the play to stake a claim to regain his place in the national team which is set to begin a one-day tournament against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka next week.

The batsman took full advantage of Zimbabwe captain Tatenda Taibu's decision to field first after winning the toss as the touring bowlers once again found wickets hard to come by.

Haq was assisted by Bazid Khan, son of former Pakistan captain Majid Khan, who hit 94 with 16 boundaries and Naumanullah Khan who made 56 with 12 hits to the ropes.

Zimbabwe drew the first side game on Tuesday in which Pakistan's left-handed opener Asher Zaidi hit an unbeaten 202.

Zimbabwe has an inexperienced squad following a turmoil in their cricket with 15 experienced white players, including captain Heath Streak, rebelling against the selection policies of the Zimbabwe Cricket Union in April.

Zimbabwe's Test status has been suspended by the International Cricket Council as a result and they are only allowed to play one-day cricket until the end of the year.

Zimbabwe takes on Pakistan in the first match of the tri-series at Multan on September 30.

Bazid must be in serious contention for Pak team now after kenya tour and now this performence
