PAK-NZ ODI Series 2004

I saw how he batted through Willow TV, and he was nothing special, but he has been way more consistent, and thats what it counts.
Do you want me to tell you how many flaws Younis Khan has.

BTW - Salem Elahi has scored 3 out of 4 centuries outside of the subcontinent.

is shoaib available for the 2nd match????
someone tell me what i heard about his injury is not right :(

Yeah he did…one against South Africa and 2 against Zimbabve

Bad ball for Akhtar good news for New Zealand

QUEENSTOWN, New Zealand (AFP) - New Zealand's bid for a rare 2-0 series lead over Pakistan received a boost with dangerman Shoaib Akhtar almost certain to miss the second one-day international.

Pakistan manager Haroon Rashid said it was "very unlikely" Akhtar would take the field here Wednesday due to continuing problems with a painful groin injury.

A local doctor treating Akhtar has advised several days rest after the Rawalpindi Express took a nasty knock from a cricket ball after batting in the nets without a protector.

"The doctor said he's got some problems, and he has received treatment. He's still a bit sore and needs to rest, but he should be okay for the third match" in Christchurch on Saturday, Rashid said.

Pakistan still have an imposing lineup of speedsters -- Mohammad Sami, Shabbir Ahmed, Abdul Razzaq and Azhar Mahmood -- who can all reverse swing the ball, but Akhtar's absence will undoubtedly be welcomed in the New Zealand camp.

They are still smarting from his 11 for 78 haul in the second Test last week which gave Pakistan both the match and the Test series before withdrawing from Saturday's one day series opener.

The New Zealand Black Caps took full advantage of his absence in Auckland to win by four wickets with five balls to spare after being set a target of 230.

It broke a run of seven consecutive losses -- five of them to Pakistan -- since they successfully chased 247 against India in Cuttack in November.

The increasing confidence in chasing targets would encourage New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming to bowl first on a Queenstown pitch he was more than happy with.

"It looks a pretty good surface and if the nets are anything to go by it'll be a ripper," Fleming said.

"It might be the case that we bowl first. I'd like to think we're a more rounded team to do both... certainly in New Zealand I'd tend to favour bowling first."

Even without Akhtar in the equation, New Zealand still have the problem of bowling at the death after another disaster in Auckland where Moin Khan led an onslaught that reaped 102 runs in the final 10 overs, and 69 off the last five.

It poses a selection problem for if Ian Butler, who was rested in Auckland, is brought into the side it could be at the expense of Chris Cairns, Jacob Oram, Daniel Vettori or Andre Adams who are all useful with the bat.

Fleming was giving nothing away about selection but said the death bowling was the obvious concern.

"It's not an easy art to perfect, we want to get better, we're one of the poorest in the world at it and we're working very hard.

"There's a lot to think about and we've got to make it a little more simple.

New Zealand have have won just 25 of 73 one-dayers against Pakistan, and rarely put two consecutive wins together against the hugely talented side that has batting depth, a solid pace attagk and iopressivn spin bnwling.

Teams:

New Zealand (from): Stephen Fleming (captain), Craig Cumming, Hamish Marshall, Scott Styris, Craig McMillan, Chris Cairns, Jacob Oram, Brendon McCullum, Kyle Mills, Daniel Vettori, Daryl Tuffey, Andre Adams, Ian Butler.

Pakistan (from): Inzamam-ul-Haq (captain), Imran Farhat, Yasir Hameed, Salim Elahi, Yousuf Youhana, Shoaib Malik, Abdul Razzaq, Moin Khan, Azhar Mahmood, Mohammad Sami, Shabbir Ahmed, Younis Khan, Danish Kaneria, Umar Gul, Shoaib Akhtar.

You have got to be kidding me. No protector in the nets? facing test class bowlers?. He must have big balls.

It’s this careless atitude of this guy that pisses the crap out of me.

And what is so underachieving about that?
Scoring a century is a big feat, and against no matter who the opposition, Younis Khan too has played many games against Zimbabwe and South Africa but never scored a century,

:salam:

Plz can someone tell me when is the Sharjah tournment is being played?

I think it will be after the Indian tour to Pakistan.

So far, Pakistan and South Africa have agreed to tour, don’t know the third team, possibly Sri Lanka.

When is the 2nd ODI? Doesn't it start today?

i beg to differ, If centuries are a measure of success then Steve Waugh had only 2 centuries in his spread one day career.. Can we say that he was a mediocre player? And yes Younis khan plays in a position where centuries are and his predecessor Mark Taylor had one or maybe zero but he was a very good one day player too.

^ May be you can explain better why Younis Khan is better, other than "confident looking", "gets or doesn't get out this/that way".

Lets dicuss that in other thread... Pakistan: Middle order batsmen

Changes bhai, i did not say up there that Younis khan is better in either way. I just mean to say that centuries should not be a matter of a player's stature.

yeah i will post in that thread.

So what time is todays match on GMT?
