Social Welfare Minister of Pakistan’s Punjab province Zil-e-Huma Usman was shot dead by an alleged religious fanatic who believed women should not hold any active positions in government.
Usman, an activist of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Q, was shot dead in Gujaranwala by one Ghulam Sarwar, stated to be a religious fanatic who believed women should wear veil and should not hold any active positions in society and government.
She was shot in the head and shoulder and died in a hospital in Lahore.
Sarwar told them during questioning that women occupying senior positions was against the rule of God, and was an attempt to subjugate men.
Bhatti said so far police have not established that he is linked to any religious or extremist group.
Punjab province law minister Raja Basharat however said the attacker shot her as she rose to speak at a meeting.
According to District Police Officer, Gujaranwala, Sarwar had been accused of killing 12 call girls of Lahore. He was arrested for killing of call girls and was released from the jail last year.
Was this particular deranged animal really convicted in the killings of call girls and then released as clamied by this news source? BBC news article doesn’t mention any such thing. Can someone confirm that?BBC NEWS | South Asia | Gunman kills Pakistani minister

This is the part I find really disturbing. These radical Mullahs need removing from Pakistan. Deport them somewhere. India/Afghanistan (clear of the Pakistani border and the Pashtun areas, fine, get chopping Mushy).
While I hope that the accused gets justice in this case, I also hope that there are very few, if any, people in Pakistan who are willing to, and are capable of committing murder due to this thinking. I know for sure there are many many people in Pakistan who actually believe that women have no place in government. During Benazir's time, partly due to political leg-pulling and partly due to religious convictions, there were many who joined protests to chant slogans that having a woman ruler is clearly against sharia rules and women's place is at home. It only takes a single moron to take this rhetoric to the next level, take a life and devastate a family, a community and an entire nation.
God damn justice system in Pakistan has more holes then swiss cheese… I read this article earlier, but I couldnt get myself to post it because its so saddening…

Looks like we have our very own jack the ripper. Again, he should be punished severely.
