The filthy rich in South Asia are a peace of work. Don't pay taxes funnel money to Swiss banks exploit the little guy - probably more than their western counterparts. And they don't give anything away to charity - with exception of Hasim Premji Tatas Birlas (and maybe a few others
Sorry - saw topic in realtimr posts. Did not mean to intrude inbthe fasion sub forumm
^ That's my point. They make it sound like it's only becoming a recent issue. Also, I'm pretty sure these "high society" girls don't really care for what's deemed "appropriate" anyway.
I think it has become more mainstream than the past. Of course, you won't be wearing miniskirts on the streets of lahore or karachi anytime soon, but the length of shalwars is going up along with the whole slit in the side fashions that pretty much leave you bare below the knees. Fashion shows are another issue altogether (less restrictions there).
Imran Khan's sister being the exception, why do Pakistani wealthy women need revealing western clothes to prove they are rich? They need to see how Queen Elizabeth dresses...

^ That's the point. The queen dresses like that because she's old now. Kate Middleton is Royalty too, however she dresses differently because she's young.

Yes you are right, you can replace the example of our Queenie with the lovely Kate who is always nicely and more importantly, decently dressed, but the point remains the same; The rich people of the west don't flaunt their wealth by wearing revealing clothes......just my humble opinion.....:)
I don't think dressing decently is subjective as such, your religion and cultural norms dictate to a certain extent what is decent and what is not. If this magazine is about rich Pakistanis, and lets face it, they wouldn't be in it if they were not Pakistanis, then what exactly is the point of discussing french labels and wearing revealing western clothes? (which they are by Average Pakistani standards)

They simply choose to disagree with the social norms and they can afford to, as they are mostly isolated from the main stream Pakistani society.
Why does it bother people if someone calls these 'high-society' members out for their pretentiousness. Why not call a spade a spade? These 'elite' people leave a bad taste in my mouth. It's sad when there is just so little difference left between these 'Pakistani Muslims' (if they even are Muslims :/ ) and Western non-Muslims.

Why do you feel like people should conform to your religion or your version of it?

We all have our views and beliefs and we all have a right to express them. :) They obviously don't have to conform to 'my religion' or 'my version of religion'. But that doesn't mean I shouldn't express my disapproval of their lifestyle. I just don't believe in the 'to each their own' and 'don't judge' philosophy. Humans are judgmental by nature. Inside, we all judge each other for all sorts of things-it's just some people pretend to take the 'moral high-ground' when criticism made by others strikes a nerve.
The elite class isn't made up of a group of infallible people. You're free to sing their praises and oooh ahh over their pretty clothes and hedonist lifestyles. Just don't expect to everyone else to put them on a pedestal.
