Pak Hi-Society !!!!

Re: Pak Hi-Society !!!!

^ Just saying all those rich people should do is pay their Taxes and obey the laws. The elected reps, well they've been screwing us for a long time, nothing more needs to be said.

Re: Pak Hi-Society !!!!

That's true regarding income disparity - though that chasm is getting progressively worse everywhere. I just find some things more pronounced. Lip-service liberalism, no sense of ownership/accountability, a sense of entitlement that could put WASPs to shame, ill-gotten/new wealth, being a big fish in a small pond - all shape an elite culture that's unique to a young nation like Pakistan.

But yeah, down with the grande bourgeoisie everywhere. pumps revolutionary fist

Re: Pak Hi-Society !!!!

We should just Tax them to poverty, make the society equal.

Re: Pak Hi-Society !!!!

Radical redistribution of wealth, not a bad idea.

(Sorry Payal, don't mean to derail your thread. Lovely pictures, the rich and pretentious fascinate me too).

Re: Pak Hi-Society !!!!

Totally agree with the bolded part. It's as if all of Pakistan should collaborate to facilitate their wealth "creation". But when it comes to giving back to the nation that they owe it to, suddenly its not their obligation.

Just paying the currently owed taxes would be sufficient for now.

Re: Pak Hi-Society !!!

The amusing thing is that most of these people really have no clue what they’re talking about. For example the Sana and Safinaz interview…Since when were Roland Mouret and Louboutin eclectic labels? These girls are high end designers in the fashion industry, you’d think they’d know their stuff. It just seems like they’re pulling out names for the sake of it and as a result they just sound pretentious.
Oh and this quote was particularly annoying: “It’s getting increasingly difficult to show off your legs in Pakistan!” Say what?!

Re: Pak Hi-Society !!!

It’s always been difficult.:stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Pak Hi-Society !!!!

^ That's my point. They make it sound like it's only becoming a recent issue. Also, I'm pretty sure these "high society" girls don't really care for what's deemed "appropriate" anyway.

Re: Pak Hi-Society !!!!

I found that out back when I changed school for my A'levels. And was like, "Whaaaat?" Just couldn't believe my eyes, poor young impressionable me.

Re: Pak Hi-Society !!!

Oh and don’t get me started on all the girls born into money who have the advantage of getting an amazing education from fantastic international universities, yet they do absolutely diddly-squat with the opportunities they have been given. What a waste… :hinna:

Re: Pak Hi-Society !!!

Majority of them go to Fashion school to become a designer. I find this funny!

Re: Pak Hi-Society !!!!

I as a guy can't call them on that, would sound too oppressive. Besides I'm okay with most of them sitting home except for the doctors. You just don't sit at home after spending 5 years at college. The system in the US does a great job of rooting out such people. Four years of college before med school, no one would sit home after spending that many years studying.

PS: Girls born into money aren't the only ones guilty of that.

Re: Pak Hi-Society !!!!

Not at all. Pakistani culture is all about the way of living, the morals, the food, the clothes, the values. I'm sorry but those girls look like barbie dolls just out of LA or something. They're clearly trying to emulate their Western counterparts. It's sad to see the culture slowly eroding away.

Re: Pak Hi-Society !!!

Seriously, it is really sad to see those elites specially when majority of pakistani are living under severe socio-political-economical pressure. I am not saying that those elites are bad but if they are on such high positions, they should return their talent to homeland. Most of those elites are more western, and their pakistaniat is also missing. They are the people who can represent pakistan and its culture internationally, but it looks like they are more interested in their own self-interests. I would say, they should not hold pakistani nationality. :chai:

Re: Pak Hi-Society !!!!

Love it! Thank you for sharing payal :)

Re: Pak Hi-Society !!!!

Only Sana Safinaz interview comments were tacky and ignorant. Rest, I find are reasonable accomplished ladies. Jahanara Saigol and Aleema Khan both are doing commendable work.
Love the wooden crafted door and art work.

Re: Pak Hi-Society !!!!

You guys realise this is just entertainment right? If you don't like, don't read it. There are tons of these magazines here. It's really not that serious.

Re: Pak Hi-Society !!!

I don’t completely agree here and I figure they do the most of wat they can with family influences and all. The girl in the article is working on some family run charity and make the most out of it. I think that people born even in such wealthy families have some really tight restrictions and there are a ton of things that they’re just not suppose/allowed to do. There is a documentry by the heir of johnson and johnson and its called born rich. It kinda touches on that subject.

Re: Pak Hi-Society !!!!

I can't bother to read all the descriptions (atleast not right now) but they all seem to be oozing pretentiousness out of every pore, sorry, but yeah.
