Pak China relations: A question

I know Pak and PRC have very good relations, with much cooperation in defence matters, economic investment (mainly PRC > Pak), political alliances etc, but I am wondering what China has to gain by having such close relations with Pakistan.

What is the rationale behind them from a Chinese perspective?

Thanks,

L

Re: Pak China relations: A question

India is an emerging economic and military power that can threaten china. A "relatively" strong Pakistan, will keep India worried engaged and worried.

Re: Pak China relations: A question

new port, china always wanted a rail link from the port in pakistan to china, also the former stans are the new middle east and china wants to link it through pak and its own land.

Re: Pak China relations: A question

Pak China relations go back long before Indians started dreaming...

Re: Pak China relations: A question

I am aware of Pak. role as an energy corridor for China, but our close relations predate this new plan. China has long been close to Pakistan, and previously was it only an alliance aimed at keeping India awake at night?

Can someone list Pak/China combined interests?

Re: Pak China relations: A question

Good relations with Pak is win win for both, Chinese investment in Pak comes with no strings attached. To answer your question what has China to gain for not having close relations with Pak.

Historically Pak played a major role bringing US-China together.

Re: Pak China relations: A question

china is isolated by the west in many aspects, and along with turkey is one of two countries in the world which actually like pakistan(is)

Re: Pak China relations: A question

Wrong. China was the best friend to India in early 60's when it was unknown to Pakistan at that time. In a border tussle, the relations of both countries became bad. It was ZAB in the times of Ayub Khan, then Foreign Minister, visited China. MouseTung and Leoshaouchi (pardon my spellings) gave him head of state reception it was perhaps in 1962, friendship started since then. ZAB was founder of this friendly relation.

Mouse Tung!

:omg:

Re: Pak China relations: A question

Nixon’s China game

Sultan Mohammed Khan, Foreign Secretary, Pakistan, on: Yahya Khan’s visit to Beijing

That Kissinger feigned illness in Pakistan and went to Beijing for two days, July 9 and 10, to arrange a meeting between President Nixon and the Chinese leaders, is known. What is not known is how Yahya Khan helped arrange the meeting between two enemy countries through handwritten letters. Both America and China were so beholden to Pakistan that they promised action if Indian forces ever went to East Pakistan to assist the Bangladeshis in their struggle for liberation. There are some nasty remarks against Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi. The Memorandum of Conversation, kept in the National Security Archives, Washington, reveals them.

Re: Pak China relations: A question

man..i thought you are smart. Enemy of my enemy, is my.....???...

that is how chinese imprints/links were found in libyan nuke program....I hope you got what i am implying.... ;)

Re: Pak China relations: A question

Border dispute is one of the reasons why "hindi chini bhai bhai" became very sour..another reason is dalai lama got a refuge in india.

Re: Pak China relations: A question

Historically Pakistan and China started their relationship in 1951. From then on it blossmed. Very much before the pathetic attempt by the Indians to take Chinese lands.

Re: Pak China relations: A question

what does starting relations got to do with this??...india started its deplomatic ties from 1950 with china.

Re: Pak China relations: A question

China is making friends in many countries in its region, particulalry in East Asia...
Its part of its overall strategy of extending it political and national intrest.
So Pakistan isnt unique on this account, its only part of the grande Chinese scheme of things.

Pakistan is perhaps one of the more important however, because of its strategic location... Otherwise, nothing special I think.

Re: Pak China relations: A question

what land india tried to grab from chinese?

what about pakistan giving a piece of kashmir to china as gift?

Re: Pak China relations: A question

this is wholly debatable. acc to china, aksai chin and arunachal are their territory and wanted negotiations with india for that reason. But nehru was adamant that it was indian territory and ordered troops to move in. chinese wanted negotiations to give a chance but nehru never wanted to listen. But chinese had already built a road in aksai chin connecting xinjian province with south central tibet.

so yes..it was nehru who wanted to be aggressive. so he started it.
But chinese shouldn't have built any road if they wanted negotiations.

There is definitely nehru's fault

Re: Pak China relations: A question

not exactly. china pakistan relation is very special. pakistan even gives its territory to china and china being a permanent member of security council breaks all international norms and even gives nukes. they even give missile tech for missiles more than 300 kms, when international norms clearly mention that technology for more than that range should not be given. pakistan's babur missile looks very much identical to chinese YJ 62 and the pace with which pakistan got that missile(and even others), even chinese couldn't get it so quickly.

Re: Pak China relations: A question

Most reports suggest Babur is a reversed engineered Tomohawk.

Re: Pak China relations: A question

If I was in Pakistan, I'd trust the Chinese a lot more than the Americans personally.
