Re: PAF vs IAF

Hi Pakistani friends,
This is jeetiaf as requested by thread initiator I am an Indian and today I want to tell you about the one of the most renowned aircraft called ‘MiG-29’ NATO NAME- Fulcrum. This is the aircraft I had seen since my childhood. And I can say I know about it fairly well.
The aircraft was inducted into the active service of IAF in 80’s. Currently it empowers No. 28 squadron of the IAF called ‘First supersonics. As they were the first to fly supersonic Mig-21. When they were inducted in IAF in 1963.
The aircraft is equipped with BVR( Beyond Visual Range) capabilities. It is most nimble if not the most agile close combat air superiority fighter.
The aircraft has got favorable thrust to weight ratio. If the thrust to weight ratio is more than 1 it can sustain aircraft in any configuration. This means aircraft can do ‘roll on top maneuver’ immediately after its take off. The main reason of this is that it is twin engine aircraft called RD33 engine.
Aircraft require short run up between 200 to 350 meters.
To takeoff in such a short distance is mostly performed by helicopters, vertical takeoff aircraft like ‘sea harriers’ of Indian navy. But in conventional aircraft MiG-29 only can do this.
Vertical uplift is one of the most wonderful things this Russian beauty can perform. The other advantage is its lower maintenance requirement.
Aircraft has got large radar cross-section it makes quite difficult for radars to detect it.
Finally I want to brief you about one major problem of this aircraft. While flying it releases black smoke behind it as a trail which makes it an easy catch to the eyes. I practically saw this happening.
I feel aircraft is comparable to f-18 hornet if not f-a/e 18 super hornet.
If anyone out there can brief me about JF-17 thunders. Please do let me know.
In turn you can ask about any IAF aircraft you want.
Wishing you
Happy new year

good to see your comments and welcome.
Mig 25, 29 are great planes no doubt but they arent really where IAF has true edge these can be owned with F16 and chances can be almost even.
what i think india got best is SU30MK and i would be very interested to see an analysis or how can pak counter it if there is something unfortunate between Pak and india.
I referred to wikipedia because it is owned by Americans - your long time friend (though they are now acknowledging the true monster). Any other reference to you people is of no avail because you people always close your eyes and the ask us to show the evidence. Regarding your second line refer to my last line. As your choice of words was invidious so would be my reply now - I am more than happy that our pilots, as you said, are experts at hitting ground, if they would have been any better I dread what more could be the result of the last four wars. LOL!
Wikipedia is owned by my American best firend.. He lives next door. I went there on christmas. Im sure he would be thrilled to see you citing his site.
Im not closing my eyes, im only referring to the obvious fact that Indian aircraft are about as flight worthy as an Ostrich.
Still doesnt make it a credible source. There is reason why scientists and researchers are clamoring to cite Wikipedia in their citations.
Dont provide citations or refrences, thats fine, but dont expect anyone to actually agree with you either.
Last 4 wars:) Dont be ridiculous. For a country 10 times the size, you really have a chip on your shoulder. The PAF as you well know, has done a commendable job in countering your otherwise "supperior" airforce.
The sole victory, which is uncontested, was in 71, and the reasons for that have nothing to do with your military might.
I would remind you how brilliantly your military performed when it battled an enemy of equal size.
In the end, the real threat here is the one you pose to yourselves:) LOL

hi
it is simply foolish to laugh at MiG_21s. we have got them in varients like MiG21ML,Mig21fishbed and latest of them is Mig21bison fitted with israeli radar for greater attack so just because of safety record the aircraft cannot be declared as useless.
80 Mig29s for 42 f-16a and f-16b
JF-17 would not be match for Mirage-2000H and most of them upgraded to 2000-5 versions
for rest of aircraft we have MiG-21, MiG-23, MiG-27, Jaguars
i feel this is more than sufficient for pakistani airforce.
aircraft are technologically advanced than paf aircraft and outnumber it significantly
wishing you great year ahead

remember most of the pakistan Air force role would be defensive and JF17s, f16s, f7ps and mirages would matter alot specially when they have BVR and coupled with pakistan airforce.
i am not sure about PAFs capability to strike inside india but i think pak has enough hardware to do that.
with that there is something else which matters as well strategy and training.
i may not have considered it much of thing but having seen documentaries for 1967 arab israeli war and 1973 yomkipur i think it does matter.
but for sure india do have considerable advantage....

Wow, ultimate sarcasm! I have a request who ever is interested in juxtaposing IAF with PAF and come to a common conclusion must shun the dirty practices of a writing malicious stuff about Indian Pilots skill. I am giving the proof of our skill the one and last time. Read this
Over the next couple of months, there will be extended discussions of COPE INDIA, the annual exercise between the U.S Air Force and its Indian counterpart.
COPE INDIA began in 2004, with mock dogfights between USAF F-15 EAGLES and Indian Air Force SU-27 FLANKERs. The results of COPE INDIA were surprising, *not because the FLANKERs and their air-to-air missiles provded to be technically advanced (we already knew that), but because theIndian pilots proved to be more tactically advanced than we had originally assessed. * Indian FLANKER pilots effectively employed their aircraft against the F-15s, proving more than a match for their American counterparts.
I haven't seen any official reports on the latest COPE INDIA exercise, which pitted Indian FLANKERs against U.S. F-16CJs from Misawa AB, Japan. According to a recent article in the Christian Science Monitor, some Indian sources are claiming they gained the upper hand, while others are making more guarded assessments.
The Monitor article is disappointing in a couple of respects. First, it bases much of its assessment on comments from military chatrooms and bulletin boards, which may (or may not) be accurate. Secondly, some of article's observations should be placed in a more accurate context. For example, Monitor reporter Scott Baldauf notes that U.S. fighter prowress is slipping, based on the results of COPE INDIA, and the introduction of newer Russian and French aircraft, with technical capabilities similar to our F-15s and F-16s.
It's worth noting that the American fighters now being "matched" by other countries were first introduced in the 1970s, and the versions that flew in COPE INDIA are almost 20 years old. In other words, foreign designers are just now matching U.S. technology that appeared decades ago. Additionally, Mr. Baldauf fails to note that the U.S. has significantly raised the bar for fighter technology, with the introduction of the F/A-22 Raptor. The F/A-22 has never appeared at COPE INDIA and likely never will, given the advanced (and sensitive) technology associated with that airframe. With its advanced stealth capabilities, the Raptor can acquire, engage and destroy other aircraft without being detected. That's a tremendous capability, one that no other Air Force can match.
It is also dangerous to translate the Indian example to other nations that operate the SU-27. The Indian Air Force is one of only a handful of third-world air forces that can fully exploit the capabilities of an advanced fighter. China may have 400 FLANKERs, but its tactics are well behind those of the U.S., most NATO air forces, Japan, South Korea, India, and Singapore, just to name a few. Flying a SU-27 like an older MiG-23 FLOGGER or MiG-21 FISHBED makes no tactical sense, but the tactics of many FLANKER operators are antiquated, to say the least.
The Indians deserve credit for developing the tactics and training programs required to fully employ their advanced aircraft. But describing COPE INDIA as an Indian Air Force rout is premature at best, and a likely exaggeration of what actually transpired. The exercise provided valuable training for both sides, and for U.S. pilots , exposure to aircraft and missiles they may see in combat in the near future. Flying against those threats--in the hands of skilled IAF pilots--makes COPE INDIA a valuable exercise, indeed.
**
RED FLAG (Vegas)
IAF shot down almost equal no. of Raptors with SU-30MKI without using its Radar in US Air Space, reason being the fact that such sensitive technology shouldn't fall in foreign hands. Without the much advanced radar Indians were like one hand tied back which resulted in some Friend Kills but over all this has caused speculations in USAF about the much boasted capability of Raptors**
For example, can you imagine if a real war broke out (full scale, with China) and one or more B-2's were shot down? Or if a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier were to be sunk? In both cases, the loss of those expensive, difficult-to-build assets would be irreplaceable.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Last 4 wars:) Dont be ridiculous. For a country 10 times the size, you really have a chip on your shoulder. The PAF as you well know, has done a commendable job in countering your otherwise "supperior" airforce.
I acknowledge your point and categorically agree to you! Though I regret the fact that you don't know that Air Force has nothing to do with the size of the country e.g. Israel!
The sole victory, which is uncontested, was in 71, and the reasons for that have nothing to do with your military might.
Strategy my friend, that damn thing is called strategy!
I would remind you how brilliantly your military performed when it battled an enemy of equal size.
If someone does a peace deal with your country and stabs you at the back that too at the point when its just been a decade you sought freedom from someone else's clutches. The worse part being the fact that our Prime Minister had a misplaced opinion that to progress you don't need military but industries. The point where you are misleading the topic is the fact that there was no Air Battle, it was a ground assault from them and with extraordinarily superior numbers. They did plan to attack you too but you coward people gave up your land (today known by the name Aksai Chin) and settled with a deal. Anyway, today there is no such direct threat. We are much more powerful.
In the end, the real threat here is the one you pose to yourselves:)

Fighter Aircraft**
Unlike their bomber counterparts, fighter craft may be used in both offensive and defensive operations; however, fighters may only engage other aircraft, and are the only type of military unit capable of doing so. Fighters may be deployed on their own, to independently engage other nations aircraft, or they may be sent to escort and defend bombers during bombing runs. As was previously stated, fighters will also engage any incoming bombers and fighters from enemy nations. Much like bombers, each aircraft has an individual strength rating ranging from 1 to 9, and each fighter craft has its own requirements and base purchase costs depending upon this strength rating.

Lockheed Martin offers the F-35 to India
24 July 2007
American military aviation major Lockheed Martin has offered India its state-of-the-art, fifth generation, stealth-capable fighter aircraft, the F-35 Lightening II Joint Strike Fighter. The company, which is in the running for India's offer to buy 126 multi-role combat aircraft (MRCA), is trying to further sweeten the deal, having offered the F-16 for the contract.
The F-35 is descended from the X-35 of the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) programme, funded by the US, the UK, and others. It is designed and built by a consortium led by Lockheed Martin with BAE Systems and Northrop Grumman. The technology demonstrator flew in 2000; and a production prototype flew on 15 December 2006.
Last week, top executives from Lockheed Martin met officials from India's Ministry of Defence and told them that the US government had agreed to make the F-35 Lightening-II available for the IAF's 5th generation fighter contract. Lockheed Martin's Vice President for Business Development Rob Weiss said after the meeting that the F-35 would be in the reckoning much beyond the induction of the 126 MRCA planes, as the country's security experts have been struggling to find partners to develop futuristic 5th generation fighters.
New Delhi has talking to Moscow for joint development and joint investment in next generation fighters, but the Russian concepts of these fighters are only on the drawing board at present. Americans started development of the F-35 in early 2000, with an initial cost outlay of US $50 billion. The new generation fighters will be inducted into the US Air Force by the end of 2009 or in early 2010.
"In the next few years a number of countries will join the F-35 programme and the IAF is welcome," Weiss said. The F-35 fighter uses stealth to pick and choose engagements while reaming undetected by enemy defence systems. It has embedded antennae, aligned edges, internal weapons, as well as special coatings and material.
The designers say that the F-35 fighter will have the most powerful sensor suite ever, with a seamless real world and real-time 360-degree display of the battle space to turn the pilots into 'tacticians rather than technicians'. If new countries joined the F-35 programme, the US could be open to delivery of new generation fighters within the next decade.
They said if the IAF chose the Lockheed Martin world's best selling fighter F-16 fighting flacons, it could "position India to be ready to receive advanced technologies incorporated in the F-35's." Lockheed Martin officials said lot of new technologies being tested on F-35 would be leveraged in the new generation F-16 Block 50 fighters.
On India's decision to raise the offset limit in purchase of the 126 new fighters to 50 per cent, Weiss said his company was confident of meeting this target. "We have met offset requirements totalling US $40 billion in 37 countries," he said. He also said Lockheed was ready to support IAF's lifecycle needs and for technology transfer. "Fighting falcons are already being produced in five countries," he emphasised.
On the proposed sale of six C130J transport aircraft to India for use by special forces, the Lockheed Martin has announced that a letter of agreement was expected to be signed by the end of this year. Deliveries of the aircraft would start 30 months after the contract was signed; first deliveries would be by 2011. The company's long range maritime reconnaissance aircraft - P3C Orion - has been dropped from the Indian Navy's request for proposals.
In the meanwhile, the F-35C variant of Lockheed Martin's Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) programme has passed its air system critical design review (CDR). A key milestone following a series of subsystem reviews, it gives the development team behind F-35C - a conventional take-off and landing aircraft for carrier-borne operations - the green light to proceed toward production of three test and evaluation units, said a company spokesman

Armament
1 GAU-12/U 25 mm cannon mounted internally with 180 rounds in the F-35A, and fitted as an external pod with 220 rounds in the F-35B and F-35C.
Up to four AIM-120 AMRAAM, AIM-9X Sidewinder or AIM-132 ASRAAM internally, or two air-to-air and two air-to-ground weapons (up to two 2,000 lb weapons in A and C; two 1000 lb weapons in B) in the bomb bays. These could be AMRAAM, the Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM) up to 2,000 lb (910 kg), the Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW), Small Diameter Bombs (SDB) - a maximum of four in each bay, the Brimstone anti-armour missiles, Cluster Munitions (WCMD) and High Speed Anti-Radiation Missiles (HARM). The MBDA Meteor air-to-air missile is currently being adapted to fit internally in the missile spots and may be integrated into the F-35.
Many more missiles, bombs and fuel tanks can be attached to the four wing pylons and two wingtip positions, but at the expense of being more detectable by radar. The two wingtip pylons can only carry short-range air-to-air missiles (AIM-9s), while the Storm Shadow and Joint Air to Surface Stand-off Missile (JASSM) cruise missiles can be carried in addition to the stores already integrated. An air-to-air load of 12 AIM-120s and two AIM-9s is conceivable using internal and external weapons stations, as well as a configuration of six two thousand pound bombs, two AIM-120s and two AIM-9s.
soon i promise you i would tell you about su-30MKI inducted on 11 june 1997. i was lucky to watch induction ceromany. currently it is no.20 sqadron called 'the lightenings, and no.30 squadron 'rhinos'. but before that jf-17 thunders. and i would like to tell you now is MiG-25 is phased out from active service and new entry is BAE.132 hawks. enjoy last days of 2008 with regards jeetiaf
Man I have seen videos of SU-30MKI, that piece of machine is incredible. It can perform cobra, Kulbit maneuvers. It almost hovers in air at a speed of 180 Km/hr. I am not that good with the technological stuff of an aircraft and I would love to hear about that from you.
OPERATIONAL HISTORY SU-30MKI
The Sukhoi Su-30MKI is the top fighter jet currently in-service with the Indian Air Force as of 2008. The MKIs are often fielded by the IAF in bilateral and multilateral air exercises. India exercised its Su-30MKIs against the Royal Air Force's Tornado ADVs in October 2006.[20] This was the first large-scale aerial exercise with any foreign air force during which the IAF used its Su-30MKIs extensively. This exercise was also the first in 43 years with the RAF. During the exercise, RAF's Air Chief Marshall, Glenn Torpy, was given permission by the IAF to fly the MKI.[21] RAF's Air-Vice Marshall, Christopher Harper, praised the MKI's dogfight ability, calling it "absolutely masterful".[22]
In July 2007, the Indian Air Force fielded the MKI during the Indra-Dhanush exercise with Royal Air Force's Eurofighter Typhoon. This was the first time that the two jets had taken part in such a exercise.[23][24] The IAF did not allow their pilots to use the radar of the MKIs during the exercise so as to protect the highly-classified N011M Bars.[25] During the exercise, the RAF pilots candidly admitted that the Su-30MKI observed superior air-maneuvering.[26]
The IAF has been exercising with other air forces like the United States Air Force (USAF), French Air Force, Singapore Air Force, and Israeli Air Force over the last couple of years. An earlier variant of the MKI, the MK, took part in war games with the USAF during Cope-India 04 where USAF F-15 Eagles were pitted against Indian Air Force Su-30MKs, Mirage 2000s, MiG-29s and elderly MiG-21. The results have been widely publicized, with the Indians winning "90% of the mock combat missions". [27] In July 2008, the IAF sent 6 Su-30MKIs and 2 aerial-refueling tankers, the Il-78MKI, to participate in the Red Flag exercise.[28] In October 2008, a video surfaced on the internet which featured a USAF colonel criticizing the performance of the Su-30MKI pilots during the exercise.[29] USAF issued an apology to IAF and distanced itself from the remarks of the colonel.[30]
I saw this aircraft since its induction, reason of cobra kulbeit maoeuver is its thrust to weight ratio 8.3:1 this makes aircraft to sustain itself in any configuration. Su-30MKI is fitted with classifed radar system claimed to be of generation 5. Su-30MKK of china is considered to be of gen 4 and IAF SU-30MKI is generation 4.5 apart from this aircraft is mounted with 30 mm gun and also can perform all aerobatic manoeuver that f-22 can perform. I saw f-16 during 'aero india 2006' when indian enterpreneur RATAN TATA flew f-16. aircraft is smaller in size and performs nice manoeuver. with sukhoi exhaust is six feet wide. i entered the engine upto upper turbine in standing position. this russian beauty is simply marvelous. ther is no words for it. but for now we have only 42 in numbers. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited's Nasik unit will be supplying 12 of them per year. it is under licensed production of 150. apart from that soon india is going to buy 126 MMRCA aircraft chances are for Mig-35, Su-35, and for Rafale.
it is the most nimble and most agile close combat air superiority fighter and also its longer wing span reduces its air drag immidiately after its takeoff making it take extereme hard right or extreme left turn at the speed of just 100 km/hr. reqirement of runway is just 110mts to 135mts depends upon ammunition it is carrying. it can take off from smallest runways of hilly kashmir. but god forbid, if something bad turn between india and pakistan the aircraft may not be first priority due to presence of Mig-29s.
happy new tear

Su-30MKI happy new tear jeetiaf
Thanks bro! It seems you are a pilot or sth! Happy New Year to you too!
hi dear
before any comments i wish you happy new year
well i conceed to your point that PAF has sufficient hardware to strike deep inside INDIA. now the question arises how much deep
at the most NEW DELHI, or deep down in MUMBAI
but dear INDIA"S most of the logistical support originates from HYDERABAD and BANGALORE. this much deep even PLAAF(china) cant reach unless and untill they gain complete air superiority and that is highly improbable.
second thing, IAF firm belief is Attack is best defence.
ratio is not even 1:1
with due apologies to all small airforces, size does matter.
consider this, soon there will be induction of 126 MMRCA.
increasing air arsenal by another six or seven squadron.
waiting for your reply

My friends! PAF has such glorious pilots that they are been called by other countries to provide CAPs over their borders. I just want to say that fight between two jets doesn't depend on the maneouverablity or perfection of a jet but depends upon the decision making power and immediate reaction of a pilot. I think i dont need to tell anything about MM Alam, he destroyed Indian HUNTER with his old F-86 in DOGFIGHT. And Not only 1 but 4 and just in 57 sec. This wasn't any miracle but the pilot was miracle and every Pakistani pilot is a miracle. Another example is: My father is a retired Squadroun Leader of PAF. He had a director named SATTAR ALVI. Alvi was providing CAP over Syrian border. meanwhile two Israeli mirages entered in Syria. he was alone in his Mig-21 but responced immediately and hitted a mirage with his ASM Sidewinder. then he chased the 2nd mirage upto israeal. So my friends perfection of a plane depends upon the pilot not on jet OR a jet is nothing but a goat without his shepard
hi
very glad to see your comment. but you should have known about just a simple thing and that is whatever PAF has done was commendable. but still they didnt win the war.
90000 soldiers surrendering is itself a record surrender that any country ever made.
my father is flight commander of no.28 squadron of IAF he is a group captain.
the squadron flies MiG-29s. in my earlier blog i posted about MiG-29s if you feel like you can read it.
secondly single back fin aircraft mostky makes U manoeuver and double finned makes almost L so due to technalogy it is easy to shoot any U by L.
F-86sabre was the first supersonic and HUNTER (SU-22) was subsonic both slow in speed and slow in manoeuver. an easy prey for Sabre.
it would take same time of Any IAF pilot to shoot 4 in 57 seconds.
thirdly SUMKI can jam other aircraft missile with it classified radar system. and any aircraft is nothing in front of it.
Technalogy does matter, there is no answer to it. and new aircraft brings new precise manoeuver outdating the previous.
otherwise just tell me why PAF want JF-17s why they want to upgrade F-16s.
every pilot is human being your feeling about PAF pilot as miracle reminds me HITLER who thought ARYANS should rule the world because he had belief that they are superhuman race.
A well trained pilot in an outdated aircraft is worser than any semi skilled pilot of
technologically advanced aircraft.
technology does matter and that is why both RUSSIA and US are ahead of us.
unless and until PAF doesnt take vigorous modernization efforts they will not be able to match IAF.

Thanks bro! It seems you are a pilot or sth! Happy New Year to you too!
no i am not a pilot, even though i got selected for the esteemed job twice but yes i am something of a pilot. My dad is squadron commander of no 28 squadron of IAF they fly MiG-29s.
I was born and brought inside IAF no wonder I know about these things directly from engineers and pilots
thirdly SUMKI is not incredible piece of machine rather it is goddess of all flying machine that we have in this sub-continent.
and so are Mig-29s.
it twin afterburner at its takeoff can let you know what is meaning of terror and why the pilots are called terror flyers.

***Jeet, I couldn’t have said any better. I did some research and I want to tell you what I got there! ***
According to preliminary estimates, in long-range air combat, the Su-30MKI outperforms the F-16C Block 60, F-16C Block 50 and F-18E/F aircraft by 15, 20 and 12-15 percent, respectively, owing to its radar’s greater detection range, higher jamming immunity and multichannel capability, as well as better maneuverability (For details about SU-30MKIs radar just scroll down a few lines). The Su-30MKI’s **super maneuverability and better air-to-air missiles **give this aircraft superiority in close air combat in which it excels the F-16C Block 50 by 10-15 percent, F-16C Block 60 by 20-30 percent (as the high wing loading significantly limits its maneuverability in close-range combat), and F-18E/F by 15-20 percent. The Su-30MKI has no AoA limitations: it can fly at even 180 degree AoA and still recover.<<<unique. This high super-agility allows rapid deployment of weapons in any direction as desired by the crew. It deflects automatically and allows high angle-of- attack flights.
If ,by any chance (though I see no reason why Su-30MKI would miss F-16’s detection first owing to its better radar), F-16 fires upon first, with this kind of maneuverability Su-30MKIs can easily “jink” BVR missiles which are generally less maneuverable than the somewhat shorter range dog fight missiles, which have a higher boresight (note: - some even have no boresight limit). Its a known fact that BVR missiles are more susuptable to be “spoofed” than the shorter range/faster dogfight missiles.
The current radar in the SU30MKI actually has the capability to “lock on” to the aim120 amramm missiles and is able to shoot at the missile with the amrammaski missle (russian, some say a copy of the aim120. LOL but with far longer range and on par with the latest version of the 120 in performance). This is one of the few aircraft capable of shooting a missile with an air to air missile. The radar is very capable indeed.
RADAR (Su-30MKI)
The forward facing NIIP N011M Bars (Panther) is a powerful integrated passive electronically scanned array radar. The N011M is a digital multi-mode dual frequency band radar.[18]](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sukhoi-30_MKI#cite_note-17) The N011M can function in air-to-air and air-to-land/sea mode simultaneously while being tied into a high-precision laser-inertial or GPS navigation system. It is equipped with a modern digital weapons control system as well as anti-jamming features. N011M has a 350 km search range and a maximum 200 km tracking range, and 60 km in the rear hemisphere. Design maximum search range for an F-16 target was 140-160km. The radar can track 15 air targets and engage the 4 most dangerous simultaneously. These targets can even include cruise missiles and motionless helicopters. The Su-30MKI can function as a mini-AWACS as a director or command post for other aircraft. The target co-ordinates can be transferred automatically to at least 4 other aircraft. The radar can detect ground targets such as tanks at 40–50 km.
We have solved Pakistan’s prob of worrying about F-16s and now let me tell them about the feasibility of missiles attacking Inida!
India has an active Anti-ballistic missile development effort using indigenously developed and integrated radars and locally designed missiles.[16] In November 2006, India successfully conducted the PADE (Prithvi Air Defence Exercise) in which an ABM, called the Prithvi Air Defense (PAD) an Exoatmospheric (outside the atmosphere) interceptor system intercepted a Prithvi-II ballistic missile. The PAD missile has the secondary stage of the Prithvi missile and can reach altitude of 80 km. During the test the target missile was intercepted at an 50 km altitude.[17]** India became the fourth nation in the world to acquire such a capability and the third nation to develop it through indigenous effort**.[18] On 6th December 2007 the Advanced Air Defence (AAD) missile system was tested successfully.[19] This missile is an Endo atmospheric interceptor with an altitude of 30 km.. Two new anti ballistic missiles that can intercept IRBM/ICBMs are being developed. These high speed missiles (AD-1 and AD-2) are being developed to intercept ballistic missiles with the range of 5000 km.[21] The test trials of these system is expected to take place in 2009/2010.[22]
For the time being, India has also bought S-300 from Russia. The S-300 is a series of Russian long range surface-to-air missile systems developed to defend against aircraft and cruise missiles and to intercept ballistic missiles.

**LOL, Pakistanis critcize IAF’s MIG-21s eventhough some of their aircrafts (Nanchang A-5) are even worse than that. Except 10 JF-17 and 44 F-16A/B none of your aircrafts are more capable than MIG-21. Now, who will take care of IAF’s 80+ Su-30MKIs, 39 Dassault Mirages 2000 , 56 MiG-29s, 114 Jaguars, 120 MiG-27s and 20 MiG-23s.
