~Survival of the smartest~

btw , do you want me to post Indian woman pictures here? It'll make you proud, esply from the recent case in California against Raklay Baly Riddy (Indian Millioner) who brought young lower cast Indian girls to America and sold them to strip joints and whore houses.

*Never ever ever ever and ever fight for your freedom. Why fight when you can starve?

Or you can go the Taliban way and do both.

YB, Does any woman in your family dress like that 24/7? If not then shut the hell up!

In the second set of picture 1995(b4 taleban) women looked happier and cheerful.

These photographs show suppression of extreme kind. What are these women...objects without feelings, forced to do whatever transpires in the minds of brainless mullas? Pathetic.

yOuNgBrAt,

This is a discussion board. Please tone down your temper and stick to the topic. You are a very senior member, so you should know the rules of the forum.

Thanks!

Before we leap to conclusions, one should carefully analyse the pictures. Chilli / Old Monk, could you please post the source of these pictures so that I and others may evaluate their reliability.

More importantly, I notice one apparent disparity between the images. If one looks at the surroundings of the women in the images, all of the women in the "pre-1995" pictures appear to be in relatively affluent environments, whilst those in the "post-Taliban" images appear to de in less wealthy, more deprived environments.

Thus it is easily conceivable that the source of Chilli / Old Monk's images seems to have been distinctly selective in his/her pictures, presenting women of different social backgrounds, one group of wealthy women and one group of poor women, and is attempting to imply that the women are one and the same.

The women in the second set of pictures look poorer compared to those in the first. Poorer people generally have less to be happy about. Poorer people would have been unhappy before the Taliban too.

Source of these pictures is there in the first post, but it is hardly conclusive, anyway.

While, mad's point about difference of affluent and poorer neighborhoods may be a factor, there is no doubt that Afghanistan, under Talibaan, has undergone tremendous changes. These includes a different, more rigid dress code for women. I won't be surprised if the same women who are adorning themselves in the beauty saloon are now roaming the streets in burqas.

Whether the change is good or bad is a separate debate, where each of us may have a different view-point and opinion. Facts remain the same (hopefully). And this change is a fact.

Dear Pristine ji, yes I know the rules and no I didn't get mad or my temper went of the roof. It’s not about the Taliban here at all. It’s about Burqa and tradition! As any desi will tell you that the Burqa is a traditional dress of the Phatans. This idiot is not only making mockery of the Taliban but is also disrespecting my culture. Now I am surprised that as a Pakistani and as a MOD you didn't realize this and have still allowed these images to degrade someone’s culture/heritage.

Ps, If you need more elaboration then plz do ask.

It doesn't really matter what women want, what men want will always be done where religion are concern. But who am I in this discussion, I am just representing myself. Maybe the women are cheerful under those burqa in the first picture...right? At least I hope so.

YoungBrat,

I try not to pre-judge people all the time, as that will make my job a big mess, and everyone will complain of irrational censorship. I prefer to take things on face value - "Innocent Until Proven Guilty" sorta thing.

In this thread, Old Monk, has so far offered no comments at all. All he did was post pictures of women (presumably) in Afghanistan. If the women are wearing burqas, which is a traditional dress of women not only in Afghanistan, but also in many parts of Indo-Pakistan, then I see no reason for an uproar. Fact of the matter is that women in Afghanistan ARE wearing burqas, and fact of the matter is that there is nothing to be offended about it, for us as muslims.

Now if you will be so kind as to clarify why you are calling him names (e.g. you just called him an 'idiot' in your last post), I will appreciate it. If I allow you to do so, I have no right to stop him from retaliating in a like manner. Insult and abuse is a two-way street, and as a policy I don't allow ppl to start fights here. As this will distract us from the purpose of this forum, which is to discuss and debate.

Thanks!

Interesting pics. The body language of the veiled women seems to be of unhappiness or supression since they are looking down.

In the pre- taliban pics, the women seem modest.

I feel that if the woman chooses to use the burqah then good for her but she shouldn't be forced, as long as she is modest.

a woman's point of view, an islamic one at that.

Just seems like they are using religion as a excuse to control people.

Longer Term in Sex Slave Case
By KPIX - Jennifer Mack

A Berkeley man is facing a long-than-expected sentence for running a sex-slave operation with young Indian girls (lower cast girls, there was a 2 hour show about this also).

A federal judge ordered Lakireddy Bali Reddy to pay his teenage victims $2 million in restitution, and sentenced him to just over eight years in jail.

Prosecutors had agreed to a plea bargain of six years, but the judge increased the sentence, because of the trauma to Reddy’s victims.

The case first came to light in 1999, when carbon monoxide fumes overcame two girls living in an apartment owned by Reddy. One of the girls died.

http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/kpix/20010619/lo/646_1.html

These links for the full dirt:

http://us.rediff.com/channels/news/local/reddy.asp ---- very good

“Lakireddy Bali Reddy is expected to own up to several of the charges against him, including smuggling of minor girls for sex and cheap labour. But his sons are plotting their own course.”

**"They were also allegedly exploited for their labor, having to work at Reddy’s popular Pasand Madras Cuisine Restaurant in downtown Berkeley and clean and paint some of the numerous buildings he owns.

The trafficking in girls and women for sex and menial labor is an escalating international problem with as many as 2 million women worldwide forced into sexual slavery. Thus, according to White House officials, the sex slave trade appears to have replaced narcotics as the favored illegal trade activity.

Although an estimated 50,000 women and children are being brought to the United States under false pretenses each year from Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe, and forced to work as prostitutes, abused laborers or servants, the Reddy case is the first (to my knowledge) to possibly surface in Berkeley.

Together with his 30-year-old son, Vijay Lakireddy, Reddy allegedly falsified documents to gain the girls’ illegal entry into the United States. These men are also charged with falsifying documents for numerous other Indians who became indentured servants who worked in the Pasand restaurant. The girls and the other workers were reportedly trafficked to Reddy’s adopted home in Berkeley from Vijayawada, his hometown in Andhra Pradesh."**

http://www.indiaabroaddaily.com/2001/03/08/08sex.html ---- excellent

**"“When I arranged for Victim No. 2 and Victim No. 3 to be brought from India to the United States, I intended to engage in sexual intercourse with Victim No. 2 and Victim No. 3,” Reddy admitted according to the plea agreement. Victim No. 4 was only 11 when Reddy brought her to America on a fraudulent identity.

Reddy pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit immigration fraud and admitted that he arranged for the entry of 25 to 99 Indians.

“At least some of these aliens were vulnerable victims because they were young women and girls who came from extremely poor families of a low caste in India, were desperate to come to the United States, and were dependent upon defendant Lakireddy Bali Reddy for employment, housing, sustenance, and income both in India and in the United States,” said the plea agreement.

Reddy also plead guilty to one count of filing a false tax return. Reddy lied on his income tax returns saying that he held no bank accounts in India.

Reddy, who hails from the village of Velvadam in Andhra Pradesh, first came under scrutiny in late 1999 after the death of 17-year-old Chanti Pratipatti. She died after a faulty heater leaked deadly fumes into the one-bedroom Berkeley apartment she, her younger sister and a third roommate were living in. Chanti’s sister and the third girl were treated for smoke inhalation.

Reddy had illegally brought all three from Velvadam, federal prosecutors charged. Chanti’s sister told authorities that Lakireddy routinely had sex with her and her sister. Chanti was pregnant at the time of her death."**

The reason I posted this is to show how can such people even start to talk about women rights or claim to be women rights activists when they have THIS! going on in their own backyard?

Sorry for going off subject but didn’t want to start a new thread. I wanted less attention as possible. Only wanted Old Monkey to see this.

ps. Pristine, dont worry, from now on all just follow their steps. btw, hope you dont delete this before good old friend gets a view.

Old Monk…from your first post…how do you know these are afghan women…they can be men too…dressed like this…

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

but if they are women…ahem, seems like a barbarious tradition…ask these taliban maulvis to wear a dress like this in the hot and humid climatic conditions of that part of the world and they will forget their fatwas…even our religion does not recommend such a strict code of parda…otherwise why the heck are men supposed to lower their graze…ask theswe women…they must not be happy doing it…

Looks like I have managed to ruffle some feathers again.
The source of the photographs is mentioned in my first post. As you can see these photographs are from a Afghan web site though they have been taken by a westerner. If these pictures were in anyway insulting to the Afghan culture(as a particularly "discerning" member pointed out), would it be posted on an Afghan website under the section "Afghan Women" ?
mad_scientist also mentioned that I may have been selective in choosing pictures to display here.If you visit the source site, you will notice that the photographs that I have left out are similiar to what have been posted here and would have in no way changed the projected theme which ever way it is interpreted. However, I have been selective to the extent that I picked only those photographs which seemed more expressive than others and which I thought would be of more interest to the guppies here.
