oxymoron

can technology be one?

Re: oxymoron

how exactly!?!

Re: oxymoron

lol i dont have a clue or i ahve an idea and i think its an oxymoron but not too sure and thats why asking u people..

what i was thkning is that on one side people say that technology is good and had helped us alot and does help us and on another side same people hate technology because they are losing their abilities to communicate and socialize and also the interpersonal communication qualities are deteriorating and not being thought to their children. The childrem are becoming couch potatoes and sit at home playing computer games etc or even if they surf the web they get into all sorts of trouble. IF they do not then they are bombared with advertisements about different things and they pesture their parents to get it and if the advertisements are about food then they go and get it and they eat it and become obese and everything!

Re: oxymoron

"readers aren't buyers"...so read books...good books.

Re: oxymoron

I am really sorry to say, i did not get your post there.

you don't wanna comment i guess???

Re: oxymoron

^ aisha thats not what oxymoron is...cuz thats perception of every individual.

Re: oxymoron

I did.

Re: oxymoron

that doesn make it an oxymoron i believe. almost every single thing in the face of earth has pros and cons and that doesn make everysingle thing oxymoron.
and my definition oxymoron is a set of two very contradictory words, and technology is one word which may be arguably be an oxymoron but doesn contradict, wat contradicts is the opnion of the ppl and opinion got nothing to do with grammar :s i guess

i hope i didn make it confusing

So this idea, what do i name it?

Re: oxymoron

if u asked question from grammatical point of view, then no, its not an oxymoron.

u can call it controversial

Ok i did not get this. Read my long post after maham. That is what i am trying to say in my essay. I thought it was an oxymoron but not sure so posted this thread here to get peoples opinions about it. Can you say it more clearly please? :)

Yeah that makes sense so how do i frame it?

Technology is a controversial subject matter? or People have different perceptions about the positivity and negativity of technology in their lives?

Re: oxymoron

i'd go for "technology is a controversial subject matter"

Re: oxymoron

ok is there any reason u wont go for the second one? .. cuz i have like 4 more pages to write from 15!

Re: oxymoron

cuz second is more like a huge sentence instead of a topic name, i might be wrong as my literary english is not very good, but topic names should be as small as possible.
or even if ths not a topic name and its a introductory subject still first one sounds better and then u can add second sentence right after it.

Re: oxymoron

yeah its not a topic name.. topic is about cartoons in advertising and where technologu comes from is that advertising on the web also contains cartoons etc and its effects on children....

i can do that.. thats a nice idea

It seems like you got the definition for oxymoron wrong.

After reading what you’ve explained to others, my guess would be that you are thinking of discussing trade-offs that come with the availability/use of the technology.

Having technology allows for all kinds of conveniences, but along with all those conveniences, there are also disadvantages. As an example you can do so many things without leaving the house. However, going online has its own risks involved. Since you mentioned children, one advantage is that they could use technology (i.e. internet) from the comfort of their home instead of having to go out and look for information. A disadvantage is that you have to supervise them more closely to make sure they don’t run into anyone or anything inappropriate.

Re: oxymoron

wow thanks alot and yes this is what i meant etc..
