Then the term you're looking for is trade-off and not oxymoron. And you wouldn't say that technology is a trade-off, but rather it has trade-offs.

You're certainly talking about Trade-offs and Dillemmas in your post. Also, some aspects of technology such as those you've highlighted are regarded as "Second Level Effects". The First-Level Effects being the stuff that the innovation was intended for and Second-Level Effects being other patterns that have emerged. Often, the second level effects contradict first level effects.
