Ok, so uni started again about a month ago…and i’m beginning to fall behind on work because i keep delaying it I generally enjoy my course, but procrastinating my work as well as other chores around the house is really getting in the way of me doing well in my studies, and its making me feel down..
Why do you procrastinate? Ask yourself this question. Sometimes the answer is
1) irresponsibility
2) immaturity
3) overconfidence
4) opposite of overconfidence - fear of the enormity of the task
5) need for instantaneous self- gratification
6) have not been used to structure in ones life - everything always in utter confusion.
Each can be corrected. Figure out why you procrastinate.
-get rid of your internet
-get rid of cell fone [keep the landline]
-try to stay in the library as much as possible
-stop studying in your couch in front of your TV
-if possible, get rid of your TV
ONLY then, you will have no choice but to complete your tasks both studies and chores.
Ahh...university life. Embrace it. Only then can you get rid of it. zen
Also I found organization helps. Binders, colored pens, sticky notes etc. Have a rough idea of some sort of a schedule in your head. Doesn't have to be rigid, like Wake up 7 am, brush teeth at 7:02 etc. But more like ok, I'll nap for so many hours, then eat, then study for x amount of hours. etc.
And remmeber, don't compare your study hours with the study hours of someone else. What works for them may not work for you, and will just end up making you feel inadequate.
Firstly thank you so much for the great response guys!
@ southie : i think i tend to procrastinate the most when i have a lot of work to do, the individual task's themselves don't seem difficult but when i think about having to do them by so and so date etc, it becomes daunting, i end up rushing the work/revision and i'm not satisfied with the end result of the work i've completed because i haven't given myself enough time to improve it.
@ KKF - Internet: I need it for my work, but it also distracts me BIG TIME. Maybe i could try keeping it switched off most of the time and only turning my laptop on when i really really really need it
@ Khumar - I'm definitely going to try making a schedule!

So you get overwhelmed by the cumulative amount of work. While individual tasks are easy. So you procrastinate.
Here is what might work - attack individual tasks one at a time ( setting schedule for task completion). In your own words individual tasks are easy. So you wont be intimidated.
