We should be fully honest about our mistakes in Kashmir if we ever want to win at least morally.
Pakistan did mess up Kashmir and it did that big time.
- In those dark early days of 1947-1948 we miserably failed to protect life and property of non-Muslim Kashmiris.
- Later when AJK came into being and the matter got referred to UN, we made several fatal mistakes that put Kashmir into the limbo we are in today. A. We failed to withdraw army and guerillas (fearing that India may retake the lost parts) B. We brought AJK under an Islamabad ministry (just like Indians) C. We setup a subservient, toothless and powerless assembly in AJK (just like Indians)
There are other military and political factors too. But this is the minimum set just to show why we the Pakistanis lost the high moral ground on Kashmir issue.
That is why I believe that the ONLY SUSTAINABLE SOLUTION is to accept status quo and move forward from here.
Looking back at what could and should have been is counterproductive and we have already lost 60 years and countless innocent lives because of that.
