Over Rated Cricketers ?

grow up man....

shoaib may be an "excellent talented player", but whats the use of such excellency or talent that fails 90% of the time...we dont need a bowler who is a match winner in 1 out of 10 matchs (bowling 16 for 6 in 7 overs in one match and gets 50+ in other matches with 1 or 2 wickets)....

same goes for afridi.....he is not a batsman at all...if we talk abt his bowling, he can get some recognition for it, but definitely not for batting....again the same logic applies over here....afridi scoring 100+ in one match but failing to deliver in rest 9 is of no use to us...i would suggest hafeez socring 40 each in 8 of the 10 matches is better than afridi...

Please go check Shoaib's bowling since WC.

If five more Glenn McGraths start playing international ccricket and start bowling the same line outside of off, cricket will die a pretty slow and painful death.

And if cricket was unable to produce FIVE batsmen who could play well outside of off balls, cricket would have actually died in 1800's.

Sambs, your statement is purely based on Mc Grath's One-Day bowling. He is a different animal in test cricket. Since one-day cricket is designed to be a batsman's game (2 fielders outside the circle restriction and 5 fielders always inside after the 15 overs) a bowler's only option to keep the batsmen in check is to bowl off or outside of off line. Also, anything an inch down the legside is called wide anyway. So you can not blame McGrath for chosing off line. This is the deck he has been dealt with and he has to make the best out of it.

Have a watch at his bowling in the Caribbeans or against England in test matches. He bowls VERY aggressively and brings the bowl upto batsman's chest area quiet frequently.

Couldn't agree more.

McGrath is a top class act. Anyone would love to open their bowling with McGrath. If I were to make a World XI team, it would inlcude McGrath. His strategy may bore the mass amount of the audience, but what matters is he gets wickets at a very low rate (isn't that what a bowler should do!?).
The problem with McGrath is, he doesn't get much plublicity, mainly because Warney is hogging all the media attention with his antics, and Brett Lee with his pace bowling.

"Chicken Legs" may even be deemed "under rated" by far, with all the ego's in the Australian lineup. McGrath got headlines after his verbal abuse incident.

Personally, I find each country tries to raise the ego's of their players, in order to pyschologically bring down opposing players.

Some players I find to be over rated are:
Sehwag - Time will tell for this guy to be compared to the standards of Tendulkar. (as previously mentioned by other members).

Shane Bond - True, he may be the most efficient bowler for the Kiwi's, there is still more for him to show. (I may be asking too much from Bond.. Shane Bond).

Vaughan - It's very obvious, that a man who hit runs after runs because One Day Captain the next day. His name wasn't even mentioned EVER to take over the captaincy after Hussain.

Shahid Afridi - He may do nothing to raise his plublicity, but his bat says all. Afridi knows that the fans love sixers, and it's the fans that make the rating whether your over or under.

Naseer Hussain - Being Test captain has given him "Lord" status in England. After being captain he has been getting praises after praises but never performed with the bat.

Over rated players

Shewag- A tulla like Imran nazir

Anderson - Too much hype about this kid in England. He should personally thank Pakistani batsmen for making him look good.

Youhanna - Good days are over for him. He is a good batsman but is consistently letting us down with his batting.

Over rated Guppy

  1. Umair316 - "Mr I know everything" j/k

:rotfl: :rotfl: But I do agree with Youhana, he has been really letting the team down when the team needs him the most.

Gillespie is surely under-rated not over-rated at all .Shane Bond is wonderful,he'll be the best bolwer in the near future.

Don’t hate me because I am beautiful :snooty:

I think Anderson is good. He is calm, composed and he bowled with a lot of control in the fist game againt Paksitan. He can move the bowl. So I think he is not over rated as yet.

Some hilarious replies…duh!

Funguy: Right on target! Nice thoughs on McGrath. :k: If I ever chose to pick World’s Top 5 Bowlers, McGrath is on my list. Also, McGrath is very economical both in Tests and ODIs.

Jason Gillespie: Neither he’s unlucky nor he gets more praise than actually he deserves! He’s underrated, not overrated 'cause of McGrah around and all the hype Brett Lee brings to the game, IMO. Jason’s has played only 55 ODI matches, got 85 wickets with Best Figures of 4W and 5W, twice! No doubt, he got his bright future ahead of him.

Shahid Afridi: He’s not overrated. Heck, nobody cares to give him a rate, be it on International Rating or here on GUPSHUP. Get your head straight and pick someone else to mock.

Shane Bond: Peoples Champ, IMO, currently, he’s the only bowler who holds a good record against Australia. He played 27 ODI matches, with best figures of 4W(Thrice) and 5W(Twice). And yeah, Kiwis are asking too much from him 'cause he has been proven too much against the opposition!

James Anderson: True, a great bowler, who skip no chances to take advantage from the conditions but, you see, his career just started off. Plus, he can move the ball around, so, I don’t think he ain’t overrated. Sometimes, speed doesn’t matter, line and length does!

i still dont see why and how he is over-rated :konfused:

Shoaib Akhtar is everything than over rated, his strike rate in both forms of the game is amazing.
People are saying that he is not consistent, please look at his avg.
He takes a wicket every 21 runs later and he takes every 28 deliveries, that is mark of a quality bowler.
