Sometimes, some books get a lot of praise and publicity, but you personally don’t find them such appealing.
Obviously, Its all about ‘Pasand apni apni’, but again, you got points and point of view against such books.
Share names of such books, you didn’t find as appealing, as captivating, as engaging as mentioned in review.
I start with Abdullah Hussain’s ‘Udaas Naslen’, which also got translated in English as ‘The Weary Generations’. Some people say that its the best novel in Urdu. I find it quite boring and no where near around Qurat ulain Haider’s ‘Aag ka Darya’ or Bano Qudsia’s ‘Raja Gidh’.
Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay was an engrossing read. But her latest novel was so hard to get into that I cannot even remember the title. Hard to maintain the first-time magic.
Any book written by Dan Brown other then I guess The Lost Symbol or Angels and Demons. Or may be the reason is that I read these 2 books first then the rest. Now when I read any of his books, they are so predictable, boring made up of the same plot.
I read The Little Prince from de Saint-Exupery. When I think about the apebreadtree which you find in the Book, I think like what the falooda now. I ordered Books and while I waited I had only 2 choices The Alchemist or The Little Prince. I thought I read it again but then the apebreadtree came into my mind and I said NO WAY. I understood nothing of the Book and it's a bestseller lol...
Ayn Rand's books. A friend once highly recommended them and I know of others who really enjoy then. I have tried several times, but I just can't break into them. I can't get past the first couple pages.
"The Satanic Verses" by Salman Rushdie got acclaimed by the west and the Islam and Muslim haters for the contents of his oral poisonous diarrhea that he spilled in his book.
in literary terms, it wasn't a great book by any standards.
If the book is boring you would find out soon enough not to read it cover to cover. At least I don't.
Not all overrated books are boring. For example, the one I mentioned was given same regard as the children's classic Narnia series...but it's not that great. It's not boring and the language and prose is great but it lacks morality. It's a dig at Christian faith in disguise of children's book. And that I think is condemnable.
