Originality on your wedding day?

Okay i’m not sure exactly where to post this, since it has to do with fashion but there’s no pictures (not that I could upload them anyway).

Do you think it’s somewhat unrealistic and/or superficial to want to be totally original on your wedding day? I.e., makeup that makes you look like you, with a dress that was made specially for you?

It kinda gets on my nerves when I see girls wearing the same design/color over and over and over, no originality or style of their own, just what’s in style and what everyone expects, whether it suits them or not..and lets not forget the atta-faced dulhan :hoonh:

I know sometimes with desis immitation is considered the sincerest form of flattery and admiring someone’s outfit and getting something made SIMILAR to that is fine..but I’m talking about lenghas that are mass-produced, that you see one dulhan wearing, and another one the nxt day wearing the exact same outfit!. LIke for example, i loved my cousins’ wife’s lengha..it was marooon silk kathan with pink/gold/maroon kaam.it was alot different than wat the girls in the family normally wear for their wedding. So anyway..just a fewdays ago I came across some girls’ picture on facebook and she was wearing that exact same lengha!

I know to some extent it shouldn’t really matter in the broader sense..but still…is it really bad to expect originality? :halo:

Re: Originality?

:smack: oh no, not another shaadi thread :crying:

this forum should be renamed shaadi-forum

Re: Originality?

Sorrrrryyyyy :bummer:

Re: Originality?

there should be some kind of quota here.

for example: only 5 shaadi threads per week allowed. Any other thread remotely directed at shaadi or shaadi-related matters should be closed and the member banned from Life 1 for 4 weeks :ahaa:

Re: Originality?

Don't worry about Nescio Sara, he's just jealous. He himself is addicted to watching other peoples weddings on TV. Ignore him.

I think these days every bride looks orignial and so what if she doesn't. No one and I mean no one can take the attention away from the bride, regardless of what she wears, shes the bride for flips sake. You only go to weddings to see what the bride is wearing and if the groom has any fit mates.

Re: Originality?

...good idea Nescio.

Re: Originality?

at least there is no repitition of issues there :snooty:

Re: Originality?

What? Do some weddings not have a bride or something? Every wedding is the same man, over hyped, over-rated, too many people crammed in the tinest room and rubbish food.

Re: Originality on your wedding day?

Sara did ur cousin come up with the style of her wedding dress herself? My cousin wore a dress from mohsin sons that is also on their website so if I see a gazillion other brides wearing the same dress heck i won't blame them for imitation.

Be original on ur wedding but don;t try so hard that u end up looking like something no one else would want to be.

Nescio I think I will donate every 5th marraige thread to one of your forums giving them a cultural or philosophical twist :D

Re: Originality on your wedding day?

nope, it was the exact same dress...

Re: Originality on your wedding day?

the only way to get an original dress is to design and have it made urself. I went to pakistan less than a week before my wedding and bought the dress ready-made 2 days prior and had it stitched in few hours. When you are short of time like that you can’t be original. Who knows if anyother person bought and wore the same dress? Although I would have liked to have a dress which was made exclusively for me - couldnt do anything about it:bummer: Want to post pics but upload link is not working so…

Re: Originality on your wedding day?

i want makeup that makes me look like ME
not caked-up paki makeup

Re: Originality on your wedding day?

its all about having enough time...living in north america doesnt really give us the freedom/choice to design or 'banwa' our own design as compared to people living in pakistan...i wish that was the case with the most of us though

Re: Originality on your wedding day?

True that..

Its hard to find a balance between having something unique and original but not looking SO unique that nobody would like it :halo:

Re: Originality on your wedding day?

It is merely silly tradition taken from the Hindu/Indian cultures.

Re: Originality on your wedding day?

Yes getting married and looking beautiful is a silly tradition.....

Re: Originality on your wedding day?

The tradition is, not the marriage in itself ;)

Re: Originality on your wedding day?

tradition of what? looking like yourself and not some atta-faced factory bride? :emmy:
