Original Wedding Ideas Outside of Pakistan

For those of you living outside of Pakistan, what is the most original wedding idea you have come across lately?

Can't tell you. Saving them for my big day.:@:

Re: Original Wedding Ideas Outside of Pakistan

An outdoor bbq for all the guests.

Ice-cream van at the venue, free ice-creams for all whenever u want.

Paint balling straight after the nikaah (ok only joking about that)

here are a few i've seen in the u.k:

  1. having professional dancers at the mehndi
  2. belly dancers at the mehndi
  3. clown at wedding for the kids
  4. chocolate fountains (which seem to be at every shaadi now)
  5. soup as a starter
  6. wedding cake at every table (obv smaller than the real one but identical in design)
  7. fish in the vases at each table under the flowers
  8. firewors display (which i loved and i am totally having at my weeding lol)
  9. and finally having a slideshow of pictures on a big projector screen form various part of both the bride and grooms life

Re: Original Wedding Ideas Outside of Pakistan

oh and bubbles being blown when the bride and groom entered at the walima instead of throwing flwers causer the bride has realliy bad hayfever problems haha lookes really adorable, like a fairry tale

Re: Original Wedding Ideas Outside of Pakistan

Didnt bubbles leave stains on the brides dress?

If my wedding guests were made up of ONLY the people i know and want there, i would like to go for something really unique and nice, but as one cannot exclude the whole world and its dog in our weddings...

Re: Original Wedding Ideas Outside of Pakistan

hmm i dont remember that being a problem, might have dne though

i like the soup and fruit idea as a starter
dont know why ppl here serve pakoras, chat and fried fish as starters. jis saye wisaye hi guest kha kar full ho jate hain.

i was thinking of fresh fruits..... now i will add soup too!!!
in pakistan they do serve soup in winter!!!

Re: Original Wedding Ideas Outside of Pakistan

What no pakoras, chat and fried fish? The people will rise up in rebellion!

lolzzz
i know.... but they will be coming to a future doctor's wedding.... they will be forced to eat healthy!!!

Re: Original Wedding Ideas Outside of Pakistan

I had a very traumatic time at the last wedding i went to in karachi. Really i went as a bystander, and observed bcos when i saw how it was i certainly didnt want to join in. It was as if they couldnt be served enuff food.

  1. my moms bff son got married and hes like in the army so he had the army ppl line up their unifrms medals in all and they played him in.

  2. Father daughter dance. The groom then cut in an they had their first dance to ill be.

  3. after dinner, girls and guyz separated and i dunno bout guyz but all the girls..even aunties and the bride danced. IT WAS SOOOOOOOO FUN!

  4. at a mayoon, they supplied like 10 henna artists and every1 could get their mehndi done.

  5. at the same mayoon/mehndi, there was no real fod, just a ton of snacks. like gunney ka juice, fried fish, chaat, mango peach chaat, diff bbq, fresh jalebi.

  6. again at the same event, antakshri where the the two sides challened each other to diff things like dancing, singing, dares,

  7. never actually seen this but i want this on my valima. No dupatta setting, just wore it nicely and then kept cirulating around to talk to each guest. Kind of like a brown reception.

thats abt it!

they do that alot here in the u.k, i think its a really good idea since the bride gets to meet the majority of ehr new in laws and close family friends. as for the no dupatta thing, saw that too, think it looked cute but the family got slated for it. dont understand why but apparently it 'upset' people and broke tradition. i was like huhh?

Re: Original Wedding Ideas Outside of Pakistan

ooh another one, which was different but really didnt go down well with desis. there was a seating plan, and every seat had a name card for the guest sitting there. and the tables wernt numbered but they were hindi movies titles, like there was tare zameen phar, and dilwala dulhania layjayngay (sorry about the horric spelling)
we spent the whole night switching the name cards around though...

Re: Original Wedding Ideas Outside of Pakistan

Instead of having a dj playing loud, booming music, they had a live tabla and organ palyers playing soft nice music...very nice!!!

I went to a wedding where they had the fish in the bowl...ut i thought that was ot good, the owl was too small and they had put in 2 fish, some of the fish had died bby the time the event ended...I like the wedding cake at every table idea...and also the fireworks....

the slideshows have become a must haveat weddings now.

Re: Original Wedding Ideas Outside of Pakistan

There is a town where most of the weddings are segregated. with the women and men separate...since majority of the women wear hijabs, this allows for them to get dressed up, and therefore, weddings are so much looked forward to...I must say when i first heard this i thought it strange, but after attending some of their weddings, i think it is the best way, they dont have days of events, or expensive plannings or preparations, instead they will have the only the one day of reception if it is an Arabic wedding, and if it is a desi one then they will have a mendhi too, but a reasonable one...and it is soooo much fun because the women dress up real nice and then everyone dances and it is really fun.

a friend of mine did that too- she didn't have the dupatta setting and instead of a stage that day, they had a head table.
i didn't have a stage on my wedding day either- we were at a head table and we walked around and mingled with all of the guests and danced and had a great time. but i did have my dupatta on head cos we weren't having a valima and this was my opportunity! haha

lol@ the dead fish in a bowl story! thats really unfortunate and kind of gross.

i think in desi weddings, place cards work for smaller numbers of guests and, with any size of wedding, you have to be REALLY thoughtful and careful about who you seat with whom. i went to a wedding where people were just crammed in with random strangers- everyone felt so awkward and out of place. it was horrible. definitely the most uncomfortable and non-fun wedding i've ever attended.

someone i know got married on a boat! mind you, this was a fairly small wedding and adults-only so everyone fit.
its not practical at all for desi weddings of 500 with 300 kids running around and probably falling overboard. doh! :p
they had their ceremony on the upper decks and then went to the "main level" of the boat for the reception, while the boat went through toronto harbour.

i think more desi people need to do sit-down dinners instead of buffets. with 400 people, a buffet turns into chaos very soon and i hate standing in line with a stupid plate in my hand.

Re: Original Wedding Ideas Outside of Pakistan

I went to this wedding and their was a home-made video from the bride that was shown on the wedding on a large screen. The video was sending a message to all the guests and in it she was very emotional, and crying...everybody loved it.
I also saw this extremely funny video presented by the grooms brother mimicking a few bollywood songs..they did an extraordinary job.

I think the entrance of the bride should be original...haven't seen anything too exciting though.

Re: Original Wedding Ideas Outside of Pakistan

I went to this wedding where they had everything traditional - the people were punjabi so if they couldn't go to punjab they brought punjab to their wedding and it looked marvelous to see the decorations and the way girls dressed even the dances were bhangra based some on english songs with slightly bhangra steps and rest with bhangra only...

and there was this other wedding which had professional belly dancers and all..
