Actually I have a Seraiki Speaking Chughtai friend from Multan and some people of his family say that “Chughtais are Pathans”, some say that “Chughtais are only Khans”, some say that “Chughtais are Mughals” and some say that “Chughtais are Mughal-Pathans or Pathan-Mughals”. Please tell me who are Chughtais, Really??
In my friend’s family, people mostly use ‘Chughtai’ as a surname and some use ‘Khan Chughtai’ as a surname. But no one use Mirza or Baig as a surname.

I think Chugtais are Mughals and they have been claiming this with proud. Famous Urdu writer Ismat Chugtai always called her and her siblings Mughal bache.

There are lots of Chughtais who claim themselves as Mongols but I think they dont look exactly like mongols. Abdur Rahman Chughtai look more like a Pakistani or Indian.

with passage of time, they got mixed with locals and therefore lost original Mongol features.
babar was a chugtai/jagatai turk, his mothertongue is the now dead turkic language of chugatai Chagatai language - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. these guys lost their native linguistic identity to persianization in a generation or so of moving along from central asia (mughal itself is the persian word for mongol).
and as for the present day descendents not looking mongol, the mongol armies didnt exactly go around hauling around a caravan of their native women. they married into the lands they conquered.
My friend, When Chughtais (Mughals) conquered India, Many Jat tribes started to call themselves Mughals.
I was told that i am a descendant of Chagatai Khan and my people have been claiming themselves Chughtai-Pathans. But doing after many researches i found that I am a Tarkhan Turk who conquered Sindh before Mughals conquered. My ancestors were originally Chagatai Turks of central asia and they got mixed with Pashtuns.
THINGS VERY MUCH GOT MIXED UP.
I did my DNA test just because of being sure that am i really a descendant of genghis khan. but it was not true. My Y-haplogroup was G, means my ancestors were Caucasians and i am a Sindhi-Seraiki and i look more Indo-caucasian. Tall heighted, dark brown hairs, dark brown eyes, average brown skin and hairy body.
