I’m sure there must have been threads on this in the past, but they escape my mind at the moment. What is Islam’s stance on organ donation? Are there any fatwas, anything in the Quran/hadees etc?
Re: organ donation
You gotta be more specific Sara Ji. Organ donation is an age old issue. Are you talking about donating organs after death? Or your question is related to a living person donating an organ such as givin away one kidney?
Re: organ donation
Oh hmmm i forgot about that... answers for boht conditions are fine i suppose..
Re: organ donation
as far as I know, after death we’re not allowed to donate organs, but I could be wrong. I haven’t read or searched for any ahadith on this matter, so I’m afraid to say I’m right about this.
our parents used to tell us that when you’re dead, even if a fly lands on your body, it hurts a lot, if that is true, imagine a knife cutting your flesh.
but for all I know this could all be nonsence
Re: organ donation
Sorry i dont have a source...i can get it...but their is a link to how important the organ is...you cant donate an organ that will endanger your life...but say donating blood or say an organ that wont endanger you...my biology isnt good...(i dont know which organs are expendable)...then its ok...

What does Islam say about organ donation during life or after death. Is this allowed in Islam?
Re: organ donation
exellent question sara !
i asked my mufti and actualy we had an hour lasting debate but then mufti took over saying ** YAR YA TO MERI SUN LO YA APNI MAR LOO ... MIEN NE ITNEY SAAL WAIST NAI KYE ** so i was like watever man ... thnx SADYA .. that do help though .. jazakAllah.
Re: organ donation
the body of a human is not his own property. it is given to us by Allah for using perpose for some time we have to return it back after death and if we miss use it
and sell any part part of the body Allah may punish us. if we are donating our blood or any organ. we are retuning it back to Allah so the donation of the blood or is allowed in Islam.
thanx
Re: organ donation
I wouldn’t argue with a molvi if i were you. They spend more yrs learning abt these things than we do ![]()
Organ Donor/Donation (merged)
an organ donor?
What's Islamic ruling on this one? Personally from my limited knowledge I wud guess it is not allowed, since we are not supposed to give the body any harm, and the whole respectful way of burial, isn't it? I do see that someone may benefit a great deal in his/her lifetime if they happen to get an essential organ donated.
What do you say?
Re: Do you wanna be ......
I'm nto sure at all as to the Islamic ruling on it; however how is donating ur organs harmful to someone? You'll be giving someone the chance at having a brand new life...
Re: Do you wanna be ......
Do I want to be?
Simple answer: NO
Re: Do you wanna be ......
Simple answer: NO
Thanks. I also asked about your opinion, if it is right or wrong from Islamic Point of View?
Re: Do you wanna be …
Here are some fatwas on the issue
**Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and an Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, issues the following Fatwa:
"Organ donation is permitted in Islam if it is done within the permissible limits prescribed by the Shari`ah.
The following are the conditions scholars have stipulated for donation:
Conditions associated with a living donor:
-
He/she must be a person who is in full possession of his/her faculties so that he/she is able to make a sound decision by himself/herself;
-
He/she must be an adult and, preferably, at least twenty-one years old;
-
It should be done on his/her own free will without any external pressure exerted on him/ her;
-
The organ he/she is donating must not be a vital organ on which his/her survival or sound health is dependent upon;
-
No transplantation of sexual organs is allowed.
Conditions associated with deceased donors:
-
It must be done after having ascertained the free consent of the donor prior to his /her death. It can be through a will to that effect, or signing the donor card, etc.
-
In a case where organ donation consent was not given prior to a donor’s death, the consent may be granted by the deceased’s closest relatives who are in a position to make such decisions on his/her behalf.
-
It must be an organ or tissue that is medically determined to be able to save the life or maintain the quality of life of another human being.
-
The organ must be removed only from the deceased person after the death has been ascertained through reliable medical procedures.
-
Organs can also be harvested from the victims of traffic accidents if their identities are unknown, but it must be done only following the valid decree of a judge."**
More details are at
**The Supreme Council of `Ulama in Riyadh (in their resolution no. 99 dated 6 Dhul Qi’dah 1402) has allowed both organ donation and organ transplantation in the case of necessity.
The organ can be taken from the body of a living person with his/her consent and approval and also from the body of a dead person. In the case of a living person, the jurists have stipulated that this donation should not deprive him/her of vital organs. It should also not cause risk to his/her normal life.
The Fiqh Academy of the Muslim World League, Makkah also allowed organ donation and transplantation in its 8th session held between 28 Rabi’ul Thani- 7 Jumadal Ula, 1405.
The Fiqh Academy of the Organization of the Islamic Conference in Jeddah, during the year 1408, and the Mufti of Egypt Dr. Sayyed At-Tantawi also allowed the use of the body organs of a person who has died in an accident, if the necessity requires the use of any organ to cure a patient, provided that a competent and trustworthy Muslim physician makes this decision.
It is important to note that most of the jurists have only allowed the donation of the organs. They do not allow the sale of human organs. Their position is that the sale of human organs violates the rules of the dignity and honor of the human being, and so it would be haram in that case.
Some jurists suggest that because people have become too materialistic and it may not be possible to find a free organ, under necessity one can purchase the organs, but a Muslim should never sell his/her organs **
Re: Do you wanna be ......
Sara516, I don't mean harm to the other person, of course it may benefit the other person. I meant we are not supposed to cause any harm to "the body" like the dead body. When we are dead. Being a Donor Organs means, when you die, your body organs can be donated to someone in need. So that means they will cut the dead body and use those organs. Which also means that the used dead body, whatever is left may not be in a condition to bury and it may go against the Islamic tareeqa, which is to bathe and bury the body with respect. You see my point?
Btw, this reminds me of the (lawaris) dead bodies, that no one claims, which come to the hospitals, let's say in PK, and they are used for teaching/training purposes, what about burial of those bodies? Can anyone shed any light?
Re: Do you wanna be …
Maddy, thank you so much for your research and the info. you provided. I visited the websites and learnt a whole lot more than what I was looking for originally. ![]()
The more I learn, the more I realize, how little had I known.
Re: Do you wanna be ......
Good job MS, quite informative.
what could be the reason for the above highlight decision? its not as if dead sexual organ can feel something.
I can think of only one thing modesty or "Saterposhi".
any other ideas?
Re: Do you wanna be …
May be to discourage “sex-change” operations ![]()
Re: Do you wanna be ......
I believe it has been discussed in the past. Some organs are permissible to be donated, while others may not be.
I tried looking up a previous thread in the past, but couldn't find it. Perhaps someone else can dig it up.
