Oreo on their own website accept and declare that its NOT HALAL
I myself have been eating it some time ago, and had no idea they could sell this in the UAE. here is the link to FAQs on their site
or if you doubt the link above, go to www.oreo.eu (KRAF food’s oreo website) click on “Contact Us” at top right, Click on “FAQ” at left navigation, scroll down and check question regarding “HALA”
Mods: I could not decide if its the right forum to post this, I just want that more people should take a note of it, and specialy those who are more “concerned”. please move it to somewhere you think more suitable or simply leave it here
this is useful info .. esp if oreo claim it NOT halal themselves ..and yes .. they are the most reliable souce to announce it as NOT halal as am sure they dont want a lawsuit against them about false info ..
im in the UK..I emailed them..and they emailed me back saying it was not halal :(
Well i gone through difference webpages where this product called halal and exported to Saudi Arabia including other GCC countries as they assured this product is free on animal fat etc.
Thank you for contacting us regarding Oreo cookies.
Unfortunately this product is not suitable for vegetarians and we are working on having statements printed on all our products to inform our consumers of ingredients.
We apologise for any disappointment this may cause and if you have any further queries regarding Kraft products please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind regards,

Maybe something in the cream? Some enzymes? Kraft cheeses aren't halal either. But I'm kind of bummed about Oreos.
BH, not being suitable for vegetarians works for muslims because it means that it doesn't contain animal-based/extracted ingredients. And that is what we as muslims are trying to avoid as well.
These companies make different products for different countries.
I'm pretty certain the GGC requires products to be halal-compliant. These products are more expensive to make (due to the smaller number of halal ingredient suppliers).
Therefore, while halal products are sold in the middle-east, they sell the cheaper to make, and thus more profitable non-halal products in the west.
To the best of our knowledge, the only Oreo cookies containing an animal derived ingredient are the OREO Reduced Fat and the Oreo Sugar Free varieties.
