Operations starting in Punjab?

Re: Operations starting in Punjab?

Unlike Imran Khan, who was nominated by the Taliban to negotiate with the government!!

Re: Operations starting in Punjab?

These groups have been created by Pak Army, General's like Zia and Hameed Gul.

Only if Pak Army stops supporting them, and genuinely launches operation against them all will this evil be removed from Pakistan.

Let's hope Gen.Sharif continues his good work in Karachi, into Punjab.

Re: Operations starting in Punjab?

Shows how incompetent these civilian govts. are in handling a crisis situation. It took 50000+ innocents to die when they finally and that too unwillingly decided to launch Swat operation. It took them another freaking 2 years to decide to clean up the mess in Karachi with bull$hit debate in Sindh assembly that means nothing. Again military had to take the initiative there as well. And, again in Punjab military took the initiative knowing that it will take the impotent Nawaz govt. probably another year or so to decide for crackdown in Punjab.

The military should start with taking down Rana Sanaullah. The govt. is mum because the operation was started 48 hours before the dum ass PM appeared on TV for a public speech and there too he didn't even mention the start of operation LOL!

Military would not intervene if the elected ones can show how to set the priorities right and if they can show how to deliver a job and address an issue. Has anyone ever seen the national assembly with full attendance? Most of the time more than 50% of MNAs are absent. And, if they are there by any chance, they are discussing irrelevant issues that are not top priority.

you replacing Anwar Pasha?

Re: Operations starting in Punjab?

Civilian Govt are reaping what Military govt of Zia and Mushy sow...

These "assets" which are exploding here and there were prepared and nurtured by the military dictators..till 4 years ago, no civilian security agency was allowed to touch SSP and also now, only Malik Ishaaqs are being targeted and leaders and mentors are spared...

They say operation is going on..i say what operation!!! When they find weapons in one madrassa, why yhe heads of that Institutes are spared and only few are taken in..

This religious and ethnic terrorism was promoted in military era...and it is political govts, how bad you may call them who bring the broken factions of society together.. Balochistan has been the recent and live example, which literally was on edge and it is back to back civil govts who brought them back...

The mess which have killed 60,000 plus so far is direct result of military govt and its policies...bitter but reality.

Re: Operations starting in Punjab?

We all know what naseerullah babar did. Although he was from a military background, but we know he wasn't in army when he was "acting" in 1993-4. Noon's history is in front of us.

Sure, military has had an overarching influence on "strategic issues", but then civilians should resign if they can't do their job. At the very least, the official dept heads that are supposed to deal with such policies should get out but haram khor of the nineties couldn't do that either. Phir kaisay loot maar ho gi?

As far as balochistan, military does get credit for COIN. Baloch insurgency has turned on itself and perhaps it is due to Gwadar and CPEC? Gwadar was a brainchild of Musharraf. I know that plans were there from the seventies but he was the one who acted on it. It doesn't mean that I think that Musharraf did the right thing by absolving Capt. Hammad immediately in the rape case of Dr. Shazia 10 years ago.

I don't want a military takeover to ever happen again even though things are bad with one province having way too much power in the federal structure and the local govts have no real powers like in the case of Karachi. I rather have political noora kushti be kept up so the system is improved to be fair to everyone in pakistan.

Re: Operations starting in Punjab?

Army and Government are on same page. Therefore Punjab operation is starting.

Re: Operations starting in Punjab?

:rotfl: are you talking about Pakistan?

Re: Operations starting in Punjab?

Well, govt. was made to come to the same page. They did not do it on their own free will (for obvious reasons), hence the delay, otherwise the operation would've started earlier. BTW reportedly two suspected RAW agent arrested from ramzan sugar mill.

Re: Operations starting in Punjab?

Agree, but the problem is, these noora kushti without indiscriminate checks and balances across the board would not produce any positive results because these politicians want only their version of democracy where they can do whatever they think is right and ofcourse a system where their kids get to take over after they are gone. They would never implemented a system that would initiate a true face of democracy.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his cabinet agreed not to requisition the paramilitary Rangers for any operation in Punjab with special policing powers.

The decision came a day after Army chief General Raheel Sharif ordered a Punjab-wide operation against suspected militants and their facilitators. Dozens of suspects were rounded up in the raids that continued on Tuesday.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister House on Tuesday, Premier Nawaz held a consultative meeting with his cabinet and senior political leadership. Federal ministers – Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Pervaiz Rashid, Ishaq Dar, Khawaja Saad Rafique and Abdul Qadir Baloch – as well as Senator Mushahidullah Khan, Dr Asif Kirmani and Irfan Siddiqui attended the meeting. The statement did not say what transpired in the meeting.

However, sources privy to the meeting said the prime minister said, “There is no room for any [military] operation in Punjab as there are neither any safe havens of terrorists here nor a territory is controlled by militants”. Nawaz was of the view that there was a difference in the situation in the tribal areas or Karachi and that of Punjab. He said only intelligence-based operations – conducted by the Counter Terrorism Department – could be successful in the province. Nawaz said Sunday’s suicide attack in Lahore was an intelligence failure.

The PM said South Punjab was already poverty stricken and it needed good governance rather than a military operation.

However, he directed the Punjab government to own the ongoing operation by the military and paramilitary forces.

Earlier, the leaders discussed the pros and cons of calling in the military and paramilitary forces with special policing powers under the ATA 1997. Some of the meeting participants were of the view that the ruling party would face political damage whether it requisitioned the Rangers or not.

They said if they requisitioned the Rangers with special policing powers, then at least 40 to 50 MNAs and MPAs of the party would be picked up over their alleged involvement in minor crimes. Sources said the party leadership was of the view that if their lawmakers were picked, then a negative impression of the party would develop which would damage the party in the 2018 election.

However, some members said that in case the government did not requisition the Rangers, then it would also suffer from political damage as political parties would start their campaigns against the PML-N over not calling the Ranger in Punjab.

Govt decides not to call Rangers in Punjab - The Express Tribune

Re: Operations starting in Punjab?

We've been hearing this for almost a year. So will there be rangers operation in Punjab or not?

PMLN just said no to Rangers because they fear their party member getting caught for 'small crimes' will hurt their elections chances in 2018. Or they are rightly afraid of being caught for sponsoring banned terrorist organisations. But this is how much the party cares for the country. Shame on the people who support these criminals.

I think Army should totally ignore PMLN, and go ahead with the Rangers operation in Punjab. So far they have done well in FATA, Balochistan and Karachi by taking matters completely into their hands, and away from the civilians.

Gen Raheel has a perfect opportunity to burst the myth of Punjab friendly Army by launching an operation in Punjab or his lack of initiative in Punjab will be a big stain on his legacy.
