Re: Operating system Installation guide
If you format the partition (which is a part of OS installation), then you will not have any of the applications left.
However... Windows installation program offers an alternative way, in which you overwrite the older installation (more like repair). In that case you will not have to re-install all the applications. There might be few applications which will still require a re-installation.

Re: Operating system Installation guide
^ Teggy just noticed one thing... Did you say yuo were trying to install VISTA & Ubuntu on the same drive or you made partitions?

Let the XP installation program take care of that. But remember everything will be lost after you have done it. I hope you have already backed up your important data. :)

I used the Shrink option from within disk management. So what i have at the moment is C: 222GB NTFS Healthy, and 10.81GB Unallocated.
So presumably, when i boot with ubuntu cd, and begin to install, i should see the 10.81GB as an unused partition!? (correct?)
Re: Operating system Installation guide
me again. so all was well i made a bootable cd as told by xeno and inserted the disc and rebooted. the stupid things wont read the bootable disc, i went on to explorer and the files which i know are there are not showing the disc’s contents. i now think i have a cd driver issue, so went onto sony support site to see if i can get the driver, no. ![]()
what to do?
ALL installation CDs ARE bootable.
