I have one XP ISO, but there are two problems:

  1. It is in German
  2. You must acquire a license for that :hehe:

Re: Operating system Installation guide

dude i need a quick ref. of how i go about making a bootable disc, i googled it but i got lost in i386 and device drivers, pls help. :bummer:

you dun need to do anything to make it bootable, just load ISO image and burn the CD. All windows images ARE bootable.

Re: Operating system Installation guide

oh ok.

just one more q, should i be backing my modem software, because once i do a fresh install how am i suppose to get online again?

Re: Operating system Installation guide

xeno?

windows xp generally has most of the generic drivers for modems and LAN. BUT it is wise to download and save drivers for YOUR laptop in other partition. (just in case it doesn't install the right driver)

Re: Operating system Installation guide

Alright lets attempt to do this again,

I have a Vista Ultimate installed on my PC. One main partition C:

I wanna install ubuntu, how do i go about installing it w/out it corrupting my vista boot. Last time it ruined my Vista and i had to re-install it. And i never did get either ubuntu or Vista to boot properly. Check this post to see what problem i ran into the last time: http://www.paklinks.com/gs/computer-information-technology/304951-operating-system-installation-guide.html#post6211053

A step by step instruction would be awesome. Also, suggestions on what software to use, if you’ll have me make a partition first or use the “shrink” option.

Thanks a bunch.

Re: Operating system Installation guide

Another Question: Considering, that all goes well and i install and am able to boot on ubuntu. Will i have to re-install all the drivers for my hardware on ubuntu as well? Graphics/MB/etc..etc..?

ooops… I missed ur last post..

anyway, I am downloading ubuntu right now. I also got an extra machine, lemme give it a go with vista 1st.

Re: Operating system Installation guide

Awesome …thanks a lot.

I hope it’s not too much trouble for you. :bummer:](How to install Ubuntu when Vista is already installed?)](How to install Ubuntu when Vista is already installed?)

Re: Operating system Installation guide

told you he'd be on later :D

tip toeing out of thread

Most of them would already part on ubuntu.
Some like Navada/wireless you may have to install.
But its not difficult. But different then windows!!

Re: Operating system Installation guide

xeno, i got told by teggy that i will be needing a bootable cd.

nah Orpheus, you DON’T need a seprate bootable CD. Those ISO files are exact images of Windows XP installation CDs & ALL installation CDs ARE bootable.

Teggyy… :hoonh:

Re: Operating system Installation guide

:smack:

Are we still at ISO and bootable CD?

Re: Operating system Installation guide

oh ok. its not his fault, i perhaps didnt explain clearly. :hinna:

Re: Operating system Installation guide

Yaar Orpheus just burn the ISO on CD and start your computer with that. I promise it will boot from the CD (hope right BIOS settings are in place), if not, it is about time to buy a new CD/DVD- Drive.

I have installed Windows like zillions of times directly from ISO (without any CD) in VMs.
