Narrated Sahl bin Sa’d: Allah’s Apostle said, “Seventy thousand or seven hundred thousand of my followers will enter Paradise. (Abu Hazim, the sub-narrator, is not sure as to which of the two numbers is correct.) And they will be holding on to one another, and the first of them will not enter till the last of them has entered, and their faces will be like the moon on a full moon night.”

As far as i know there will be 70,000 muslims who will enter paradise even without being questioned by Allaah, in the sense that there account books will not be opened, coz they are forgiven from Allaah for the minor sins they have committed, according to my analysis this hadith might be referring to that.
I stand for correction.
Actually no muslim will go to jannah. Since quran mentions 124000 prophets(if i am correct), then it is them who are given first preference. if we assume 70,000 people going to jannah, then the remaining 54,000 prophets would be left out. when they themselves didn't get a chance, then remaining muslims have no chance. so no point in muslims trying to know what is good or bad as their destiny is already decided

Actually I concur with SOA. And SSINGH, read the hadith carefully, it says 70000 or 700000 of the Prophet SAW followers, so this is exclusive of previous generations or prophets. Dimagh bhi istamaal kiya karo.
I think this hadees is referring to 70000 people who will enter Paradise without any reckoning, and each one from among those 70000 will have 70000 with him.

Bhai this is not mentioned in the Quran, but its a hadith and they are two contradicting ahadith one is 124,000 and other is 140,000.
As long it is mentioned in the Quran, i can concur with it, and how many go to jannah or jahanum Allaah knows the best. For all the people out here, we are arguing on such issues of who will go to Jannah 70,000 or more, accordingly on the JD we are responsible of ourselves and prepare accordingly on individual basis .
Befoer passing such offensive comments, i request you either stay away from such issues or if you have knowledge regarding this please add something to it rather then to mud sling.
I try to stay from any inter religious talks which are argumentative in nature rather then learning, because arguments mostly are a lose-lose situation, unless the person is satisfied from within, and your above comment has just drifted towards arguing.
Brother LKC sorry to interrupt, but the above statement was necessary from my POV. Insha Allaah, if i can find some good information wrt this hadith i will sure help you anytime in the future.:)
SlaveofAllah, this is not a inter-religion thing.. Islam is my religion too.. :)
Matrubhoomi, yup.. I'm definitely a rebel against the talibani-type mullahs spreading their nonsense everywhere curropting and hijacking Islam..
'Bakwaas'... I said.. bcoz the discussion went from 70000 ORR 700000 ppl entering, to numbr of prophets, to number of followers, to blah blah blah.. come on !!!! there can't be a limit to the numbr of ppl entering jannat.. Allah will decide each and every case individually... Jannat cannot have a 'maximum capacity'.. hence all this speculation is nothing but BAKWAAS !
