There was constant bickering between Lubna and her parents-in-laws. Lubna hated it when Ali’s father interfered in her small matters. She was keeping her patient with great difficulties. She would generally not respond whenever she was yelled by her mother-in-law instead she would bring it out in front of Ali. Ali fully supported her and also acknowledged that his parents were so very difficult to deal with but requested her to keep her cool. He told her that his parents could not be changed so asked her to deal with them using her psychological skills.
Ali’s mom would go running down the stairs every time she heard Irrum at the door. She would hug her and pull unnecessary long conversations with her. Lubna found that to be very odd but did not pay any attention to the matter. Ali asked his mom to cut down her friendship with Irrum, as this seemed very inappropriate. His mom on the other hand kept her ties strong with Irrum. She would call her on the phone sometimes and talk to her for long periods. One time, Ali’s mom was so blunt to ask Irrum if she could consider re-marrying Ali if he could divorce Ayesha. Irrum got really mad and asked her how could she even think like that. Then she called Ali and told his what his mom had said to her. Irrum actually did not care to talk to Ali’s mom and just ethically carried conversation with her whenever she was approached. She however complained to Ali and asked him to stop her mom contacting her
Irrum had secretly started an affair with some colleague at work. She would spend most of her week with this guy when her daughter was with Ali. In fact she could not wait for her daughter to go to her dad so that she could be with the guy. Ayesha told her dad about her mom talking to this guy all the time. He told Ayesha that it must be work related contact and told her not to worry about it. Ali however was very much concerned about his daughter. He could care less if Irrum went to hell but this was becoming a really bad environment for the little girl. Ali was strangely hoping if Irrum’s husband could return to US so that there would be a normal family life at her home. According to Ayesha, Kashif, her husband was in constant contact with Irrum in the mean time and would talk to her pretty much every day on the phone. He had no idea what his wife was doing during his absence.
One day while Ayesha was with her mom, she called her dad and told him how her mom had come home all bruised and was crying in pain. He asked her to pass the phone to her mom. Irrum started crying like a baby when Ali asked her what had happened. He asked her again what had happened. She finally told him how she got into some arguments with this friend from work and he got mad and started hitting her. Ali could not understand how a coworker could hit her. He assumed that this must be some boyfriend of her. Although Ali was not in good terms with Irrum yet he felt bad and condoled her. He asked her if she needed any help. Ali was not interested to find out the details of what had happened but he was worried for his daughter’s well being. So in that respect, he asked Irrum to take some concrete measures for their safety. Ali later on found that Irrum was seeing this married guy from work and his wife had found out about the matter. Then this lady planned to get back at Irrum and attacked Irrum with a baseball bat in the parking lot of her office. She dragged Irrum on the ground and battered her badly. She was then able to flee the scene leaving no real witness behind.
Ali was quite busy with his work and business. He had also started building his new custom house. This was a huge house on a hill. He would spend all his spare time in selection of material and choosing options for the house. He would keep his father busy with the house so that there was minimal interference at home at least from his dad. His mom would start some arguments with Lubna every once in a while. His mom hated it whenever she saw them both going out even for dinners. She did not care if Ali spent a whole night out alone but the moment he took Lubna along, she started complaining. She would say how they come home late and they should not go out so often or so. Ali would smile and tell her that they would be back in few hours. And when they would return, his mom would be in really bad mood. This was a normal life for them and Ali had learnt to live it with minimal friction. Ali also took Lubna on vacation to San Diego and Las Vegas for a week when Ayesha was with her mom.

Q. How old is everyone in the story now? Ali? Lubna? Ayesha? Irrum?
Q. Which city is this story in?
Q. Which year are we in presently?
- Ali is in mid 30's, Lubna and Irrum both are about 30 and Ayesha is about 8.
- Ali is presently in Seattle (This is not the real location though)
- The present state of story is taking place in the middle of 2004.

“This is not the real location though” Why? Whats the big deal in telling the real location, its not like we will meet irrum/ali somewhere in the real city. There are a million Pakistanis, Indians, Afghanis living in US
